Report

The January Trophy Game was held at Amverton Cove with 4 flights (15 players) teeing off from two  tee boxes at 8:00am. Weather was very good and the course was in great shape with the recent rain improving the usual dry state that this course exhibits. The greens were excellent.
I was in the first flight and we made excellent time around the course finishing by 11:15am with none in front and after two holes no sight of anyone behind.
After the game we had lunch at the seafood restaurant at the bridge from Carey Island. Drinks were kindly sponsored by Stuart Taylor who had a birthday a few days previously.
Results

Results – Amverton Cove Golf & Island Resort – 25th November 2014

Report
The Trophy Game for November was played at Amverton Cove on a beautiful clear morning. There were 16 Loose Cannons which made for a nice 4 flights teeing off on two separate 9’s. Course conditions were a little wet and the fairways had been left to go a bit – so a bit heavier going than normal. The greens were good although most of them had recently been sanded making them on the slow side. We played from the blue tees as is normal at this course and were all finished in good time by just after 12pm.
Lunch was at the “usual” seafood restaurant just past the bridge on the right after leaving the club …. and NOT the alternative restaurant on the left which had been used last time as the usual one had been closed …. we still had 4 of our party head to this incorrect venue … but they joined us shortly thereafter and luckily had not ordered a banquet for 16 there!

We had some good scores today with half the field scoring better than their handicap. The clear winner today was Allan McNicoll who played an excellent round of 86 for 44 points – a personal best. Runner up was Andrew Robinson on 41 points and a gross of 89. Best gross was Geoff McLaws with a 78. Full results below:

Results – Amverton Cove – 2nd September 2014

Five flights teed off on time and in good weather. Unfortunatley, due to adverse weather conditions
over the last few months, the course was not in its best condition.

Winner on the day, after count back, was Andrew Chez on 80 for 36 points.
Andrew Chez also shared the lowest gross with Jason Winter.

Report
It was a hazy day for the Trophy Game at Amverton Cove this week with 15 Loose Cannons turning up to play. We teed off sharp 8:00am from 2 tee boxes and we all completed the round by 12:00pm – so no real holdups at all today. The course was in good shape apart from some obvious bare patches next to the fairway which should be attended to … and the fairways although good are in need of some rain soon. The greens were in good shape and running fairly true.
Results
There were some good scores posted today but the clear winner today posting a gross 72 with 41 points was Jason Winter – well done Jason on a great scratch round! Second was Geoff McLaws with a gross 77 and 39 points and a worthy mention for Peter Davies, who has seen improved performance over the last few weeks doing in 3rd position with 98 for 37 points. 19 players eventually teed off, from the Blues at the excellent Amverton Cove. We started a little late as 1 car with three occupants decided to have a drive round the South Klang area……!!
The conditions were near perfect with light cloud and for most of the round a  pleasant cooling breeze. The greens were in excellent condition, fast and true and overall the course was in good condition and the club should be congratulated on the high level of maintenance.

The winner, Stuart Taylor, had an excellent round and until the last hole the result could have gone either way between him and Graham Cadman – Graham eventually losing out. Stuart scored 85 for 40 points. Well done. In the end, second on count back from Jason Winter was Geoff  Parslow with  78 for 39 points, this included an excellent 34 on his second 9. His back must be getting better….
A good but slow lunch was had by the river and Stuart very kindly paid for the drinks to celebrate his upcoming birthday. Many thanks. I hear it is Tony’s birthday next week….??

Next Game – Amverton Cove – 21st January 2013

Next week we are playing at the excellent Amverton Cove on Tuesday 21 st. 5 Flights booked, and 2 tee boxes.  Please be at the club by 0720 hrs, with tee off at 0745 hrs.

Costs are 120 RM for seniors and TP books. 130 RM for the “youngsters”. Caddies at own expense 50 RM.

As expected when a new h/cap system is introduced there will be some teething issues, especially as there are no cuts or increases. After discussion, any new member joining the club can only win after they have played 5 games, which will then mean a USGA h/cap will be available. Highlighted by Jason’s back to back great golfing wins. As Ted and Jason built Amverton, what the odds on the same pair on the rostrum again… Up to the rest of us to prevent this  appening…..!! Will be interesting to see what Jason’s h/cap will be after next week’s game , his 5th outing with the

LCs.

Results – Amverton Cove – 22nd October 2013

Everybody arrived on time, thank you, and we teed off on time off the blues. Cloudy weather to start, looked like a downpour, but soon cleared, and most of the round was played in very pleasant conditions. The course was in excellent condition, although the greens were a little sandy, with the odd uneven run as a result. Many compliments on the day, and we will certainly play the course again soon.

The scores reflected the course and the conducive playing conditions. 75 % of the players were under the 100….  The winner, with also the day’s lowest gross, was John Laidley with an excellent 77 for 43 points. I had the good fortune to watch his great round. For his efforts John is cut 7…. Second place was Erol Akinci with 92 for 41 points cut only 1….. Full results attached.

We lunched at the Chinese restaurant by the bridge, and an enjoyable meal
was had by 15 players.
