Results – Tropicana Golf & Country Resort – 14th May 2019

With many players away this week on the KLOGS away we had only 3 flights today at Tropicana Golf & Country Resort. We had a later tee off time of 8:21am so there was time for some breakfast.

Our 3 flights started on the West Course then crossed over to the East 1 Course. Weather conditions were hot and humid, no surprises there. The course was in great shape and always a joy to play. The greens were great but well protected by numerous deep bunkers.

We all finished around 1pm and had lunch on at the golfers deck along with numerous cold beers.

Tropicana was in very good condition today with greens quoted at 9′ 6″ on the stimp meter but seemed to be a lot faster when we played! We had a full 5 flights today and we got off on the East 1 and West 1 nines fairly promptly at just after 8:00am. Weather was good albeit a tad humid and sticky. We took lunch at the nearby Pantai Seafood Restaurant after the game which was predictably good and enjoyed by all 14 players who made lunch.

A warm welcome to our guests today; Joe (Marathon Man) Lacy, Stan Constantinides and Emlyn Jones.

Gordon Wingate Memorial Trophy – Tropicana Golf & Country Resort – 1st July 2015

The 2nd Gordon Wingate Memorial Trophy golf competition was held again at Tropicana Golf & Country Resort with 6 flights teeing off on the East 1 and West 9 nines at just after 8:00am. There were golfers from the Loose Cannons group, The FRID’ Eggs group, the ladies LEGS group and some friends of Nancy who came from Dubai.
Course conditions were good albeit a bit of a mixed bag between the two nines played. The East 1 course had obviously recently had the greens hollow tined and were quite bumpy and somewhat slow. Even the fairways were not in their usual immaculate condition. The West course however had lightning fast greens which caught everyone unaware.
Weather was good and everyone was back in the clubhouse by just after 1pm in time for the lunch held at the Spring Garden Chinese Restaurant. Nancy Wingate made a thank you speech followed by the presentation of the prizes and raffle ticket winners by Peter Davies.
Many thanks to all he participants for this annual competition and a big thank you to all those kind donations of money and prizes for the day. Any excess monies will be donated to the Malaysian Heart Foundation, a charity chosen by Nancy Wingate.

Thanks to all who played and to all of the wonderful contributions of money and prizes which made this event highly successful. We all look forward to next year’s event and a chance to get our name on the trophy.

Report

The newly refurbished Tropicana was in great shape this morning for the monthly Loose Cannons Trophy Game. We had a record turnout of 28 players for this month’s Trophy Game and we all got off to a fairly prompt start off two tee boxes on the East 1 and East 2 courses at approx. 7:45am.
The course was in excellent condition, having recently complete a refurbishment, with beautifully manicured fairways, powdery white bunkers and great greens running at a Stimpmeter reading of 8m. Pin positions today were difficult to say the least and with the undulating greens made putting out a testing process. Our members specifically mentioned the great condition of the course, especially Hans Berger who made a special mention of this over lunch.
We all finished by around 1:00pm and then most of the team made our way to Pantai Seafood Restaurant for an excellent lunch. Allan McNicoll was celebrating his 60th birthday today so kindly offered to pay for the drinks which was most appreciated by all attendees – thank you Allan for the kind contribution. We had the luxury of a private room with TV and karaoke system and we played a special tribute video (BBC Grandstand style) for Allan McNicoll, the Birthday Boy – see video below at bottom of blog posting. Allan was also entertained by the wonderful singing rendition by Hans Berger of his routine, but always well received, Swedish drinking song …. Rat…at..at!
We actually had two other Birthdays …. Hans Berger (today) and Ted Parslow (yesterday) so it is very much hoped that next week we can enjoy some sponsored  refreshments from these gentlemen.
Results
The winner today was Iain Wise with a score of 95 and 36 points – well done Iain. Second place was shared by Geoff McLaws, Andrew Chez and Allan McNicoll. Best gross of the day was a 79 from Sean Niven. It is indeed encouraging to see a winner playing exactly to his handicap taking poll position today on this rather tough course. Results – Tropicana – 30th July 2013

Report

The Trophy game for July was played at TROPICANA, with a good turnout of 16 players. The weather was good and the course was in excellent condition. The challenging greens were very true and fast, especially on the front 9 , West 3, although a little slower on the back 9, East 1. A great time was had by all in these excellent surroundings. We will try and play again later in the year, costs permitting.

The winner on the day, after talking his handicap down by 4.., was Paul Geddes with an excellent 84 for 40 points. His first win at LCs. Well done. Cut only 4. In second place, with the lowest gross was Geoff Mclaws with 80 for 37 points. Cut only 1.

Many thanks to Ted for helping to organise this game, and for Tony for organising the lunch. Appreciated.

The new Handicap system was used for the first time. Thanks Stuart for all the hard work.
