Results – Palm Garden Golf Club – 24th April 2018

We had a bumper turnout this week at Palm Garden Golf Club with 32 players attending. Whether it was the good course that attracted players or the free lunch and drinks courtesy of our Birthday Boys Ted Parslow & Hans Berger …. we are not sure.

Our 8 flights got off smoothly from two tee boxes at 7:30am and we were all back in the clubhouse before 12:30pm as a heavy rain storm hit – the last flight unfortunately had to abandon the last hole and only played 17 holes …. more of that later!

The course was in really nice condition and as always the greens were testing. Being able to drive the buggies on the fairways and having caddies certainly speeded play up.

We had lunch at the club after the game and the food and drinks were very kindly sponsored by Hans Berger and Ted Parslow who were celebrating a combined birthday of 150 years!! A big Thank You to both Hans and Ted for this kind gesture. The club also provided gifts for the Birthday Boys and some vouchers as lucky raffle prizes. Hans and Ted were presented with two birthday cakes adorned with their national flags (thanks to Ricardo for arranging this)

The winner today was David Evans with 39 points – and this was his score after only completing 17 holes as he was in the last flight that did not play the last hole. Well done David. Runner up was Kaz Takita with 92 for 38 points. Best gross was Andrew Cseszko and Jason Winter both with 82. Full results below.

Note : For the 4 players in the last flight who missed the last hole their gross was calculated by using a gross score on the last hole that gave them zero Stableford points)

Joe Lacy and his son Jack Lacy successfully completed the 2018 London Marathon in what was officially the hottest London Marathon on record. They raised £10,000 for Parkinson’s UK which is a highly commendable effort.

Congratulations to Joe and Jack for this wonderful achievment from all the Loose Cannons lads who usually struggle to walk round 18 holes!

Results – Amverton Cove Golf & Island Resort – 17th April 2018

IMG_8783

We had only 3 flights today at Amverton Cove with 12 players heading at from Hole No 1 at 8:00am. Weather conditions were good and the course was generally ok but the back 9 greens had large areas of sand around the aprons making it sometimes difficult for the approach shots. We were not held up around the course and everyone was back by 12:30 or so for lunch on the golfer’s deck. Lunch was pretty average in terms of food quality and rather expensive compared to othere restaurants outside – perhaps time to reconsider a change.

One other issue noticed on the course today was a group games activity being held between the 9th and the 18th greens directly in front of the clubhouse with a large crowd of noisy participants shouting and screaming – not exactly helping golfers on those greens trying to concentrate on their putts. I realise that Amverton Cove is now offering a multitude of activities from archery, ATV driving, power boat rides in the lake and other team games but they should remember their prime activity is golf and these other activities should not impinge on the golfers while they are playing. Perhaps they should relocated some of these team activities away from the areas near the course.

Results

The winner today with a very steady round was Andrew Robinson with a score of 99 for 37 points and he was the only player who managed to better their handicap today. Joint runners up were Bernard Romahn (86/34) and Iain Wise (98/34). Best gross was Geoff McLaws with an 84 and Brian Stubbs got the best strokes per $ out of the game. Full results below:

Results – Bukit Kemuning Golf & Country Resort – 10th April 2018

IMG_8679

We had 5 full flights today at Bukit kemuning and we got off on two 9’s at 8:00am. The course was not in the best of condition – many bare patches on the fairway and the greens were very sand and bumpy. Weather was good though and we all managed to finsh at a reasonable time (all except the last flight who took another 45 mins to reach the restaurant!). We had lunch at the New O&S Seafood Restaurant in Bukit Kemuning with most people attending – food was good and beer was plentiful. It was a little more expensive than normal (RM70/head) – maybe we were all just thirsty.

The winner today with a magnificent performance was David Evans with a score of 95 for 45 points. Runner up was Bernard Romahn with the best grosss of the day (78) for 43 points. Full results below:

Results – Nilai Springs Golf & Country Club – 3rd April 2018

IMG_8599

We only had 4 flights and 15 players this week at Nilai Springs with an earlier tee time of 7:30am to get off before a large competition. Two of our players arrived late having been lost on the way!! …. but we got off at around 7:40 on the Pines and Mango nines. Course conditions were very good and the greens rather fast – no doubt setup for the competition. Weather was very good so it was a very pleasant morning’s golf. We had lunch at the clubhouse following our game, which was as usual on the expensive side compared to an outside venue.

Results

The winner today was Siegmund Maierbrugger with a score of 86 for 41 points. Runner up was Bernard Romahn with 83 for 38 points. best gross of the day Was Niall Murray with 80. Full results as below:
