The last game of 2021 was held at the always difficult Seri Selangor. For the last 2 years, they have been doing a lot of work, cleaning renovating the buggies track, and later some renovation at the Clubhouse. The course was in good conditions with difficult greens, sometimes fast, some slow, increasing the difficulty to put and judge the right direction. The winner was Andrew Morrow with a fantastic 95/42 following by Erol Akinci with a great round but not enough to beat Andrew with 103/38 followed by Ricardo Castro with 89/31 adding the lowest score of the day. Following these results, Erold Akinci is the December winner and Jan van Driel is the new LC OF THE YEARD CHAMPION, well done Jan, and congratulations. We welcomed our guest Vind Sidhu for his first game with Loose Cannons and we are looking forward to seeing him more times. Seven of us rushed to Bar Roca joining Andrew Robinson and Barry Cousins for a nice lunch and cool beers. We wish a great 2022 to all our members and hope we can see you guys more often at the golf course. See you all next year.

FINAL RESULTS TABLE.

It was nice to be back in Bangi and play Putrajaya and Kajang courses. After 3 cancelations we had 2 flights with 3 balls starting around 7:30 with Martin rushing after his taxi broke out on the highway and we all finished around11:00. Even with the heavy rain, we had last weekend the courses were in a good shape, only the first 9 holes on the Putrajaya course were with too much sand, making putting quite difficult to judge the speed and direction. The winner today was Bernhard with 86/36 following by Erol with 106/35 and Dave with 104/33. After the game 5 of us went to Bar Roca for lunch, followed by some cool beers and nice food. A thought to our convenor Jan, hoping his current situation can be solved very soon and he can enjoy life and golf again with us. See you all next week at Seri Selangor for the last game of the year. After a two-year gap due to Covid, it was good to be back with the traditional Cannons Xmas Lunch. This event has always been held at the historic and iconic Coliseum – sadly it has closed for good. Opening in 1921 this year would have been its centenary. A great shame for a building that should have been granted heritage status and so we settled for Hucks Cafe in Bangsar – a very chic and comfortable place for the 12 of us attending the food and service was first rate respect was paid to the Fallen Cannons within an upstanding toast – now 12 on the list sadlyThe traditional madness with novelties was not appropriate at such a venue – but this did not prevent the two virgins Andy Morrow and Neil Fenwick being inducted to the Cannons Hall Of Fame in a suitable manner and there were crackers all around and Andy was also the proud winner of bringing the crappiest bottle of wine – some sort of mangosteen nonsense from Sarawak – and he was fined accordingly. And as the beer and wine flowed so did the jokes and general revelry merry time was had by all.

Our Loose Cannons Christmas lunch was again a very lively time together. Now in Huck’s Cafe, in Bangsar, as the Colisseum was sadly closed down. We were with a group of 13, with 2 virgins, Neil and Andrew, who were inaugurated first. Andrew commemorated the Loose Cannons who departed from us, and Jan had a short look back on the crazy and extraordinary year, 2021 has been. The Loose Cannons played only 6.5 months out of 12 due to the various restrictions we had in the country. For various reasons the Loose Cannons group is getting smaller and smaller, but that didn’t have any effect on the good atmosphere, jokes, and songs we had on Friday. Well-fed, with a good quality lunch (even the salmon…..!) and good, and less good wines, we went home again at 4. A very good tradition, which we certainly want to continue.

All Cannon’s

Bukit Unggul is always a very attractive course to play. Not too long but with some nice challenges in it in particular if you want to “go for it”. Only one hole (I thought number 11) where they have to improve the condition of the fairway, but for the rest, the course was in a good condition. This week they recently sanded the greens and that was noticeable on a number of greens throughout the course. The weather was very kind with some shade and a light breeze to start with. Only the last 4 – 5 holes, the sun really came out in force.
The lunch was OK at the club, the beer was good and all not very expensive, also because of Tony’s membership. Thanks, Tony!
Andrew Robinson played again for a long time!!!!! Almost a year and a half ago he played last for the Loose Cannons. Andrew, welcome back again! Very nice to see you again on the course. Andrew received the mystery prize of socks and a sleeve of balls.
The scores this week were good, the third place was for Erol with 35 points, Dave was second with 38 points and Jan beat everyone with 42 points.
Well done everyone and next week we will play Bangi.

For our first away game on Wednesday, we played a totally different course from the day before at Forest City. We played Tanjong Puteri Golf Resort. A real plantation course, old and well established with a lot of very mature palms along the fairways. Combined with a lot of bushes, trees, and water, a very nice course to play. Excellent quality fairways and sometimes a few bumpy greens, we enjoyed it very much. Not too much sun combined with a good breeze, we had a splendid morning. Not too far away from the hotel, we went back to enjoy the pool and an excellent steak dinner in the evening.
Thursday was the second day of the two-day competition. Now we played Horizon Hills, which we played last year as well. Again a different course with different challenges. Hot weather, a lot of sun, and tiredness crept in. Horizon Hills is a high-quality course, which certainly calls for playing more. During our lunch at the club, we had the prize ceremony, well organized by Ricardo, with Jan ending last, Ricardo third, Helmut second, and the most consistent of all was Bernhard with 69 points over the two days. With also a prize for the most birdies (4), Bernhard went home heavy with prizes.
Concluding: we had a great golf outing, a lot of fun together, and 4 great courses to play. JB is a good area with so many choices of courses to play of very high quality.

Great trip and good fun at JB. Looking forward to the next away trip somewhere in Malaysia.

Tuesday we had our official regular Loose Cannons game with 1 full flight. Helmut arrived that morning having seen some lightning on the North-South highway. We played the Classic Course of Forest City Golf Resort. With the experience for the previous day at Ponderosa, we decided to play off the blue tees (total 6589 yards). The course is a gem. It is a fairly new course and it was unbelievable, the quality of the tees, fairways, and greens. And not to forget the bunkers!! Some of them were real beaches or deserts, huge in size, and many splattered around the course. Combined with large and abundant water hazards, a real challenge. That showed clearly in the scores: the lowest gross score was 100 and the highest 110. But, with those disappointing scores, we enjoyed ourselves on this course. Helmut was the winner this time. We enjoyed a good buffet lunch at the course, which was paid for by Jan, who celebrated his birthday a couple of days ago.
