Loose Cannons KL Golf Rules

About

  1. The Loose Cannons play every Tuesday.
  2. Loose Cannons try to play on different courses as much as is possible.
  3. All Loose Cannons members and the guests are encouraged to attend the lunch after the game in order to increase the fellowship amongst each other.
  4. The loose Cannons games are organized by a convenor, or a committee.
  5. The player is encouraged to put in a special donation (guideline RM 100 per 100 games).

Rules

  1. The Loose Cannons play strictly to the Rules of Golf as published by the R&A (www.randa.org/rulesofgolf) except as allowed by KLLC Local Rules as published below.

Handicap

  1. Each new player (designated as guest) to join Loose Cannons will play his first game off his official USGA Handicap or his own declared Handicap. The convenor may, at his discretion, assign a handicap.
  2. Guests will have to play 5 games to qualify for a Loose Cannons membership and a handicap. Guests cannot ‘win’ any official Loose Cannons game until they have completed the 5 mandatory games.
  3. If a Loose Cannons member hasn’t played for 1 year, he has to start as a new guest again, unless the reason is a very special one, such as to the discretion of the convenor/committee.
  4. Handicaps are calculated according to the USGA Handicap system. For every game the differential is calculated: (score – course rating) * 113 / (slope rating). The average of the best 8 games of the most recent 20 games is the new handicap.
  5. If less than 8 games are played, the average of all games will be the handicap. If more than 8 games are played, but less than 20, the average of the best 8 games will be the handicap.
  6. Only games played organized by the Loose Cannons committee and for Loose Cannons are eligible.
  7. Handicaps will be maintained using the above-mentioned formula and operated by the handicap monitor. Adjusted handicaps will be published each week.

Competition

  1. Each week’s competition will be played on a Tuesday morning with an approximately 08:00 starting time.
  2. The play will normally be from the white tees, unless decided otherwise by the convener. All games will be scored using the Stableford system, based on the Loose Cannons handicap as published the week before the game. Each player is responsible for returning his correct gross score to the appointed scorer(s) in his flight. The scorer is responsible for returning a legible and correct card recording each player’s gross score and Stableford points. In case the gross score and Stableford points do not match it is the scorer’s responsibility to have it corrected. If that cannot be done the results will be deleted.
  3. If during a hole the player cannot score points anymore, it is expected that he will pick up his ball in order not to delay the game further.
  4. The monthly competition will be calculated by adding the best two Stableford scores in that month. The winner is the one with the highest number of Stableford points. In case of a tie for the first place, the individual game with the highest Stableford points will decide the winner, followed by the number of games played in that month, and if still tied followed by the 3rd game with the highest Stableford points in that month.
    The winner gets 20 points, the following places get respectively 14, 10, 8, 6, 5 ,4, 3, 2, 1 point
  5. For the annual competition only the months with a minimum of two games played will be taken into consideration. The winner of the annual competition is the one with the highest number of points.
  6. Flights will be randomly selected and/or assigned by the convenor.

Away games

  1. Twice per year an away tournament will be organized, typically stretching out three days per tournament. A separate prize giving will be used during the tournament.
  2. Only the first game will be eligible for the monthly and annual competitions. All played games will be eligible for the handicap calculations. During the away days, the handicaps will not be changed.
  3. The two other games will have its separate combined Stableford competition.
  4. Money from the kitty will not be used to cover any of the away day expenses. All expenses will have to covered by the players and the convenor will set up a separate account for that purpose. Green fees, F&B costs, tips, accommodation etc is for the players own costs.

Fee, kitty and prizes

  1. Each player will pay the fee consisting of the cost of the days golf (varies from club to club). The cost will be rounded up to allow for the prizes.
  2. In case of a last-minute cancellation by one of the players, the costs charged by the golf club will be payable by that player. If a replacement can be found, these costs will be waived
  3. Part of the extra costs can also be used to (partly) finance the lunch after the game.
  4. The winner every week will receive a voucher of RM50 from the kitty.
  5. Every week there will be a mystery prize, such to the discretion of the convener.
  6. The winner of the monthly competition will receive a RM 50 voucher.
  7. The winner of the annual competition will receive a special shirt and the annual LC of the year trophy. The trophy will stay with the winner for one year, and he will be responsible for it. There are also prizes for the 2nd and 3rd place, as well as the last placed player and the mid-way point player.
  8. At the occasion of special days (birthdays, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500 games) the member will receive a special attention. At the occasion of reaching the 500th game, a special shirt will be available.
  9. At the end of the year part of the kitty balance will be used to partly offset the cost of the Christmas Lunch.
  10. In case of change of convenor ship and/or committee, the total content of the kitty and all prizes will be handed over to the new convenor/committee.

Loose Cannons Local Rules

  1. BUNKERS. A ball lying in a footprint or other depression left by a preceding flight may be lifted and dropped within the bunker, at the nearest (not nicest) point of relief, not nearer the hole, or back from the entry point into the bunker, without penalty. The player must notify his playing partners of his intent to implement this local rule before lifting his ball.
  2. PLUGGED BALL in FAIRWAY. A ball which, in the opinion of the flight, cannot be found because it is judged to be plugged in the fairway, can be replaced at the point at which the flight judges the ball to have struck the fairway, without penalty.
  3. PREFERRED LIE. A ball coming to rest on a closely mown area through the green (only fairway, or the mowed area around the green, NOT in the second cut or rough) may be marked, lifted, cleaned and placed within one card length of the mark, on a closely mown area, not nearer the hole. Take note that a player can only replace his ball once. As soon as the ball is released and comes to rest it is then in play. Rule 9 applies.
  4. PLUGGED BALL IN THE ROUGH. A plugged ball in the rough can be picked up to be identified, cleaned and placed back at the same place around the plugged hole.
  5. GREEN. On the green a ball can be “given” (gimme) when the distance between ball and center of the hole is less than half of a normal grip on a putter.
