The monthly medal for November was held at Staffield Country Resort with a total of 28 players attending. We all got off smoothly on the North and South nines at 8:00am. Weather was overcast and cool making it a pleasant morning and with the usual good course conditions was a joy to play.

We had lunch at the club post game which was good but the beer a tad on the expensive side.

The winner of the November Trophy was Geoff McLaws with a score of 77 for 38 points on countback from Siegmund Maeirbrugger who had 89 for 38 points.

This is a corrected results after reviewing the handicaps and finding that an incorrect handicap of 25 had been used initially for ReinLi Tan when he was declared the winner after the game. His handicap should have been 23.

I managed to contact Geoff McLaws to tell him the changed result and as chance would have it he was having a drink with ReinLi so they managed to do a handover of the trophy from ReinLi to Geoff. ReinLi told me he had alread spent the RM50 on beer. The pictures below tells all!!

Results – Bukit Unggul Country Club – 21 Nov 2017

IMG_6305

We had 20 players today for the weekly Loose Cannons game at Bukit Unggul … good turnout perhaps as Tony Morris was celebrating his 400th game with a large drinks contribution at the after game lunch …. it certainly wasn’t because of the quality of the course. I know I have criticised Bukit Unggul before …. so let me continue …..

Two words ….. Goat Track …..

Screen Shot 2017-11-21 at 4.49.40 PM.jpg

The course was in very poor shape with shocking greens which had been recently hollowtined and sanded, the usual messy fairways, bare tee boxes and numerous areas dug up and ruined by wild pigs. There seems to be no attempt by the golf course management to address even the simplest of issues with large holes in the course as shown below …..

IMG_6304

as well as the very basic maintenance for the tee areas …..

IMG_6310

and of course the greens were a complete shambles covered with sand and with numerous bumps and holes …..

IMG_6315

Even the holes were completely messed up …. poorly cut with uneven, bare, raggedy edges.

IMG_6309

On Hole No 12 the complete green had been dug up with only a small temporary green in front (apparently!) …. of course our group didn’t even spot the temporary green as the childish clowns in the flight in front (Cousins/Wise/Robinson/Morris) had moved the flag onto the dug up original green … thanks lads …. very sporting! We couldn’t even spot the temporary green without the flag.

After the game we had a good lunch at East of Highway Restaurant with 16 players attending and much cold beer flowing.

Many thanks to the kind contributions into the lunch/drinks pot from Tony Morris (celebrating his 400th game with Loose Cannons) and from Ray Funnell celebrating his birthday.

Results – Tasik Puteri – 14th November 2017

IMG_6229

After some early morning light rain it was a cool morning for our 5 flights teeing off on the Puteri and Putera nines at Tasik Puteri. The course was in good shape but unfortunately the greens on Puteri had recently been hollowtined and were slow and bumpy making for quite a few 3 putts from our players.

We welcomed back Andrew Robinson to the group after his 7 month sabatical to recover from his broken leg. We also saw the return of an old face with Peter Barker joining us again after a 2 year hiatus.

After the game we had lunch at the club which was as usual disappointing with poor food and bad service. The general consensus from most players is that we should be using the Chin Heong Chinese Restaurant closeby to the club which offers much better quality and value …. a note for future games here.

Some good scores today which is normal for this course. The winner today with an excellent round of 77 for 42 points was Paul Geddes. Runner up was Martin Belderink with 89 for 41 points. Brian Stubbs after a few recent disappointing games came back with a great 40 points but only enough to get 3rd place. Best gross was Paul Geddes with his 77. A summary of all the scores are below:

Results – Bukit Jalil Golf & Country Resort – 7th November 2017

IMG_6142

With heavy rain all night and into the morning it was going to be a delayed start at Bukit Jalil today … but we did get off eventually after 9:00 am with all 5 flights off tee box 10. Our Convenor Hans could not play today due to back injury but was kind enough to be there to check us all in and then be there at the end for the lunch and results.

The course was in good condition and apart from the occassional bunker filled with water was in great shape. Course maintanance was ongoing as we played with staff cleaning up bunkers, blowing leaves with those noisy leaf blowers and even cutting new holes on the greens (albeit doing so between our flights meaning that the last flight played a different hole!)

We got round the 18 holes in reasonable time and all had lunch at the golfers terrace after the game. We had Sigi abandon playing before we even began because of the delayed start so we were down to 18 players. Bernard decided to abandon his game before the end of the round, probably as he was having a bad day so he was a No Return!!
