Results – KGSAAS – 1st March 2016

It’s not often you get a golf course to yourselves … but today we did. There were no other players at all so our small group of 19 Loose Cannons players had an unimpeded round at KGSAAS today. The weather was great, albeit very humid at the start, and the course was in wonderful shape making it am almost perfect morning’s golf.

We had 19 players for today’s game and 18 of us started on two tee boxes on the Sultan and the Alam Shah 9’s ….. our 19th player, Greg Sturgess, eventually making it to join us at mid way through our 2nd hole.

Sigi Maierbrugger kindly sponsored the cost for his flight so giving us some extra money to go towards the lunch today … thanks Sigi.

It was good to have a good caddy today … his advice was excellent and eventually found out that he played to a handicap of 2!

We had lunch at Pantai Seafood today and again, other than the beer, it offers really great value and wonderful food.

Results

As usual this course can produce some good scores and we had a number of players with more than 36 points. Dave Evans played his best ever round with two birdies and was sitting at lunch after the game thinking he may be in with a good chance to win. However the last group came in with some very good scores ruining Dave’s chance of victory. The winner today was Roger Surieux with a very good 42 points (gross of 95) …. cut 4 …. and runner up on count back was Sigi Maierbrugger with 40 points (gross 87) and an amazing 25 points on his first 9 from Dave Evans and Brian Stubbs both also with 40 points. Best gross if the day was Paul Geddes with an 85. Full results below :

Sounds

Playing with Greg Sturgess today we were amazed at the loud sound his driver made at impact so it was an opportunity to record this as shared below :

Results – KGSAAS – 5th January 2016

The first game of 2016 was held at KGSAAS with 19 players in 5 flights teeing off on the Sultan and Alam Shah 9’s under the command of our new Convenor, Mike Smith. The weather was good with clear skies making it rather hot and sticky by the time we concluded at around 1pm. The course was in good condition and I didn’t hear any complaints from anyone – if we were to be picky there were a couple of greens under repair with some patches but otherwise the greens were very good.
We took lunch at the excellent Pantai Seafood which is great value for money and with the RM50 added into the pot from the winner (thanks Ray!) who wasn’t there to collect it and the added bonus of Alan Holgate buying the beers to celebrate his 80th Birthday it was a rather cheap lunch. Many thanks Alan for your kind drinks purchase – we all look forward to the Big 90th Bash!

The winner today was Ray Funnell with 39 points and a gross of 95 and the runner up was Stuart Taylor with 38 points and the best gross of the day of 84. Under the new “Social Golf Rules” Ray will be cut by 4 strokes and all other players will go up 1. Full results below :

Results – KGSAAS – 17th November 2015

We had 14 Cannons at KGSAAS this morning ….. and one Cannon at Nilai Springs! Just as Allan was starting to register at 7:30am he received a call from Jeff Pearce wondering why no-one was at Nilai Springs …. guess he missed the 2 or 3 e-mails that we all received with the change of venue. He managed to catch up the last flight and join the game by the end of Hole No 3.
After quoting the usual Senior Rate on booking the club also informed Allan that the Senior rate was only applicable on Thursdays and Fridays making it a little bit more expensive.
The course was wet and soggy in many places and like me I’m sure many players had problems with lost, plugged balls in the fairway. I also experience a flight on another hole playing my ball leaving a poxy Titleist in my fairway by means of a fair swap!
The weather was good and actually cleared up by the back ( with beautiful clear blue skies which made a change after the many months of haze.Apart from the wet fairways in many places the greens were quite good and deceptively fast in places. The tee boxes were rather shoddy and in need of attention.

We had a clear winner this week with Mike Williams shooting a gross 79 with 43 points! Well done Mike. Runner up on cutback was Geoff McLaws with the best gross of the day of 77 and 39 points. Full results below:

Results – KGSAAS – 6th October 2015

Thirteen gentlemen and five unmentionables teed off in slightly hazy conditions. We teed off at 8-00am and played the Sultan and Presidents nines with a two tee box start. Both nines were in reasonable condition for this reliable track. The scoring however was not good.

The winner on the day was an unmentionable with a gross of 89 for 38 points. Runner up Allan Wright, well done Allan. Best Gross an unmentionable with a tally of 81. Following the rumour that the unmentionables would be paying for lunch and drinks, only 2 of them attended the lunch.
An enjoyable lunch was taken at the clubs Chinese restaurant spoilt only by the slightly dodgy fish, however the 11 attendees managed to consume 550Rm worth of beer.

Results – KGSAAS – 18th August 2015

KGSAAS was in good shape as 3 full flights tee’d off on the President 9 at 8:00am. Greens were very good but a little slow. It was a lovely morning but it started to get very hot and humid by the back 9. We all had lunch at the club following the game and struggled as usual with the very poor service to get our food and drinks – far better up the stairs at the Chinese restaurant.

Results – Loose Cannons vs LEGS – KGSAAS – 5th May 2015

Report

For this Loose Cannons vs LEGS match we had 11 flights (44 players) at KGSAAS. We tee’d off from 5 tee boxes on the Sultan/President combination under hot and humid conditions at around 8:30am. The course was in good shape although the fairways seems a little heavy in places and the greens were on the slow side but did run very true. The first 5 flights had the men (handicaps around 18 or less) teed off the blue tees making this rather long as many of the blue tee  boxes were on the black tee boxes.
It was best ball Stableford points per team added up for the match to decide the results of each individual match – 1 point for a win and a 1/2 point for a draw.
After the game we all had lunch in the Chinese Restaurant at the club which was good and the prizes awarded to the best two teams on each side.
An excellent day out all in all.

Results – KGSAAS – 24th March 2014

Report
A good turnout today with 5 full flights and 20 players. Conditions were good with clear and relatively cool weather. The course was very good and the greens, although slow on the 1st 9 holes, were in great condition. We set out from 2 tee boxes and got finished by 12:30pm. 19 of us out of the 20 (surely a record, and including a surprise attendance by Ray Funnell) had lunch at the Chinese restaurant which was enjoyed by all. Although a bit on the expensive side (mainly due them charging us for small bottles of Tiger beer to fill the jugs …. 48 in total at RM13 a pop!) the Loose Cannons kitty kindly chipped in to offset this and subsequently only cost the punters RM50 a head.
Andrew Robinson turned up with new golf shoes today …. well at least we think they were golf shoes ….. but looked suspiciously like some semi-casual tennis shoes. Anyway we will be carrying out a time lapse photo project over the next year and capturing the gradual degradation of these new shoes as Andrew continues to wear them every week …. with his usual attention to cleaning his golf shoes it probably won’t be long till we see some interesting changes.
Results
Some good scores today which is normal at this course with 6 players playing to handicap or better. The winner was Mike Smith with a excellent 41 points (gross of 89) …. well done Mike. Runner up was Stuart Taylor with 40 points (gross of 82) …. if only I had not 3 putted that last green …. sigh!
Best gross of the day was shared between Geoff Parslow and Geoff McLaws both with 81.

Results – KGSAAS – 10th June 2014

Report

We had 6 flights on Tuesday for the game at KGSAAS, playing the President nine and Sultan nine, off 2 tee boxes. Despite some confusion at the start we all managed to get away on time. The weather was fine at the start, however half way round there was a heavy thunder storm. Fortunately it was short lived and did not hold up play to any extent. Winner on the day was Geoff McLaws with an excellent 76 for 40 points. Geoff also had the lowest gross. As usual, when playing KGSAAS we had lunch at the club.

Mike Nairn and Martin Walsh, will both be away for few months, hope to see you back playing with us very soon.
