Ten players made up of seven regulars and 3 guests, 2 ex work colleagues of mine Andy & Neil and Sigi’s guest Johan teed off on time at Seri Selangor for the December trophy game. The course was in reasonable condition considering the excessive rain we have been experiencing, one or two of the greens had been sanded. Seri Selangor continue to be carry out course improvements.
It should be noted that this is the last game under the present rules as from 1st January 2019 the revised rules apply. Only 3 minutes to look for the ball!!!!!!
After the game we adjourned to Pantai Seafood Restoran where we were joined by our illustrious convener Hans who presented the December Trophy to Dave Evans who managed to accumulate 38 points with his score of 98. Well done Dave.
Sigi was in excellent spirits the new baby having arrived on Christmas Eve. Mother and young Oscar are both well. Consequently the beers and food were all on him. Thanks again Sigi most appreciated.

We had 3 flights today and 12 players at Tasik Puteri and after an efficient registration we tee’d off early at just after 7:30am on the Putera and Tasik 9”s with our traditional santa hats on for the Xmas game. Weather conditions were really great and relatively cool after all the recent rain. The course was quite wet in patches requiring us to lift and drop on the fairways but the greens were excellent. We finished by just after 12 noon and had lunch on the golfer’s deck. A few Xmas jugs of beer were sunk to get us all in the mood for the festive season.

The winner today with 83 (best gross) for 38 points was Bernard Romahn beating Stuart Taylor on 86 for 38 points on count back. Full results below:

The annual Loose Cannons Xmas Lunch was again held at the Coliseum Cafe in KL. We convened in the bar prior to lunch and had the opportunity to honour the LC Xmas Lunch virgins (in this case Julien Hodson Walker) who duly stood on the bar and was annointed with Xmas snow.

We then moved to the back room for lunch which was the usual routine of party hats, poppers, wine, and bad jokes. Lunch comprised of prawn cocktail starters, steak pie, turkey with trimmings and apple pie and ice cream.
Andrew Robinson, who kindly arranged the event, made a toast to absent friends who are no longer with us prior to lunch; Roger Smith, Murray Preston, Gordon Wingate and Andre Holm. We were joined by our founding father, Mike Smith, who made a nice opening speech to the group.
By the look of all the photos much fun was had by all attendees.

It was busy at Staffield today as it was a Selangor Public Holiday and many golfers had travelled here to get the normal golf rates as Staffield was in Negri Sembilan where there was no Public Holiday. However we got off at a reasonable time of around 8:20am despite the large crowds and our round was reasonably unhampered.
Weather conditions were good and rather cool due to all the recent rain which was good. The course was in good condition and the greens running rather quickly making you focus on your putting.
After the game we had lunch on the terrace before a rather large rain storm came in.
Our winner today was Mike Williams with an impressive round of 80 for 41 points. 2nd place was shared between Ted Parslow (83/38) and Iain Wise (94/38). Best gross of the day was Mike Williams with 80. Full results below:

We had 5 flights this morning and a total of 18 players at KGSAAS. Erol brought along his guest, Mike Fay, to join us today. With an early tee-off of 7:45am we made good progress round the course and we were finished by 12 noon or shortly thereafter. The course was very soggy causing plugged balls in the fairway and difficult shots around the green due to the wet ground but in spite of this we had some good scores.
We all had lunch after the game at the club and a big thank you to Kevin Wiggins who donated RM200 to the pot for his birthday.
Kevin Wiggins was our clear winner today with an excellent score of 88 for 40 points. Runner up was Stan Constantinides with 91 for 38. Best gross of the day was an 83 from Geoff McLaws. Full scores below:

As of 1 Jan 2019 the USGA and the R&A have announced new rules of golf. Here is an excellent link to a slideshow showing the most significant changes to the rules. All players need to be familiar with these rule changes for the start of the 2019 golfing year.

The monthly trophy game for November was held at Templer Park Golf & Country Club. The morning was very rainy and it was a much delayed start when our 4 flights eventually tee’d off from staggered tee boxes at around 9:30am or so. The course although wet and soft in many places was in good shape with the greens in excellent condition. Scoring of course under these difficult conditions were down as expected.
We ended up with 17 players due to a miscommunication/miscount by Bernhard who arranged the game but Ray Funnell kindly dropped out to allow 4 full flights to play.
We all finished by around 2pm and had a late lunch at the club. We were joined by our Convenor, Hans Berger, who came along to present the November Trophy award.
Kevin Wiggins kindly donated RM300 to the pot today to celebrate his recent 300th game … many thanks Kevin!
The winner of the November Trophy was Bernie Schobert with a score of 90 for 32 points beating Peter Davies (96 for 32) on count back. Bernie didn’t stay for lunch so he will be passed the trophy later – we all enjoyed the benefits of his RM50 winnings which went into the pot. Best gross of the day was Paul Geddes with an 87. Despite a torrential downpour one hour before tee-off we managed to tee off at 8:00am under wonderful cool conditions. The course was in remarkeable condition condition the deluge and the greens were the best we have seen for a long time. Buggies were restricted to on-track as some of the course was a little wet and soggy but overall very playable.
We welcomed back Andrew Barber who joined us today (last appearance was somewhere in 2014!) and Stuart Taylor returned from his 7 week vacation. The course was relatively quiet so we were all finished by 12 noon and then had lunch at the usual restaurant over the bridge at the entrance to Pulau Carey.

The winner today was bernard Romahn with a score of 82 (best gross) for 39 points with runner up Mike Williams on 83 for 38 points. Full results below:

Bukit Unggul a controversial course as we all know. Some hate it some like it (from what I saw today the majority). Anyway Bukit Unggul will always be a course for a heated debate. It was a good day for golf, everybody was in time, registration went smooth. Take off was something else. There is always people that are afraid missing the last bus and they were in our group unfortunately. Taking off before their turn and starting at the wrong t-box……………..why is it so difficult to just wait 5 more minutes and show some courtesy towards others in the group that are waiting for all to start as listed? Graham thanks for the apology, very much appreciated!
The course itself was in reasonable good condition, some greens a bit too sandy, a wild bore digging here and there but otherwise fine and not too wet at all.
Today’s winner Dave Evans put a marvelous 40 on the board despite producing the shortest t-shot with a driver I have ever witnessed; a 1 meter shot on hole 13. Mike came in 3rd with a 38 and the 2 guys running for the last bus to catch shared 2nd with 39.
Post game lunch was consumed at our regular hangout East of Highway with the usual Tigers going down and some good food. Thanks to Ray who contributed generously to celebrate his upcoming birthday.
