Report
Conditions at Staffield this morning were perfect – weather clear with blue skies and a light breeze at times – and the course was in very good shape after the many months of green renovation which has taken this venue off the Loose Cannon’s circuit for some time.
We had 17 players today, with 2 late-comers arriving just as the group had re-adjusted flights and were heading off to the 1st tee …. so please a reminder to everyone please arrive in time before the tee-time to allow ample time for registration, payment, etc and if you are running late please send a text or call to inform.
Other than the last 4 ball we were all finished in very good time today arriving back at the clubhouse at just after 11:30am. We took lunch at the club after the game and Brian Stubbs kindly sponsored all the drinks in celebration of his birthday …. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Brian … cheers!

Next Game – Staffield – 8th July 2014

As Kota Permai are hollow tining all their greens starting next week we WILL NOT be playing Kota Permai. We have now confirmed 5 flights at Staffield next Tuesday at 7:45am. Therefore please be at the club by 7:15 latest for registration and payment. Costs will be cheaper as Staffield has a good Ramadan rate ….. cost will be RM100 for green fees/buggy/insurance. Caddies are available at an extra cost of RM48 for those who want to have a caddy – so I will leave this to individuals to get themselves.
As the usual lunch venue in Mantin closeby to Staffield is no more in operation then I propose we will eat at the clubhouse post game.

In second place on countback was Ray Funnell, with 94 FOR 41 points, cut 1. Welcomed back Bernie Schobert, who lost ocb but had the lowest gross of 80. The round contained 4 birdies, and was very enjoyable to watch.

Staffield was in excellent condition and the conditions very pleasant, for the trophy game. After 2 gentlemen having GPS trouble…!! we teed off a little late on the Northern and Southern 9’s.

The winner was Graham Cadman with 93 for 41 points, cut 5, with Barry Cousins second with 100 for 40 points. Cut 1. Graham’s win was in spite of a no score on his 18th hole, mumbling about h/cap protection for the tour…. Full scores attached.

Big day for Tony as it was his 300th game, for LCs. He took the trouble of checking out the restaurant in Mantin to discover it was closed. As a result we ate at the Peppers restaurant at the club and had a good value meal. Tony generously donated a ringgit for each of his games played.

The wine prize as offered by Erol will be decided next week as the last of the 4 games required will be played at Bukit Kemuning. Remember best (3 out of 4 ) combined stableford scores.

Results – Staffield Country Resort – 19th March 2013

This was the milestone day, as we celebrated Andrew Robinson’s 300th game for the Cannons. We had 5 full flights, which unfortunately at the club’s request, all started from 1 st tee on the Southern course.
17 players plus R.Moss esq. and Dick Stauffer joined Andrew for lunch at the Annexe where a lonnnggg lunch was enjoyed by all. Andrew many, many thanks for your generousity with the lunch bill, and the sleeves of balls.
Now onto the golf….
Staffield was in good condition but several fairways, primarily on the Northern 9, had been effected by yesterday’s storm, with 20 trees down and some of the fairways covered with leaves and branches. The club were working hard to start to clear the debris. The greens were back to their usual excellent, true, fast condition.
Some excellent scores on the day, worth highlighting. John Laidley was back to his imperious best with a 78 for 39 points, which included a front nine to par….!! Bernard 80 for 44 points. Erol came second with 90 for 47 points. None of which reached the winner on the day, Aftab, 90 for 48 points. Well done. Shame you did not come to lunch as your winnings went into the pot, as is customary. Aftab cut 12, Erol cut only 1…..!!
Andrew’s prizes of sleeve of balls went to Erol, second, Dave Hughes, 13 th and Andre had 2 sleeves for the honour of bringing up the rear.

Next Game – Staffield Country Resort – 19th March 2013

This is a milestone day as we celebrate or commiserate, Andrew Robinson’s 300 th game for the Cannons. I expect a high turnout for this monumental occasion. We will be eating at the usual restaurant in Mantin.

Results – Staffield Country Resort – 27th December 2012

Report

On a beautiful morning 17 players, after 2 Cannon withdrawls, including a flight of guests, teed off from 2 boxes, with a prompt start at 0745 hrs. The staff at Staffield was very helpful and the benefit of pre registration certainly helped us with the start, as our buggies had been separated and we teed off before the other flights.

The course was in its usual excellent condition, especially the greens, but some areas, especially around the greens were inevitably a little soggy.

Unfortunately only 15 players completed their rounds, as apparently it was getting too warm.  After the recent deluges, personally, good to see the sun shining.

The winner on the day was Jeff Pearce with 95 gross for 41 points – cut 5 . Gordon Wingate got in the frame for the first time with 88 for 40 points – cut 1. Jeff won it on the last hole, as on the last box he was all square with Ray, who inexplicably put 2 drives into the lake….!! Lowest gross was Geoff P. with 82.
