The first game of August was played at Bukit Kemuning Golf & Country Resort with 19 players attending. We got off from two tee boxes at 8:00am sharp and most players were not held up during the round. The course is looking a little more unkempt than normal and the greens on the back 9 were very bad – sandy and uneven.
After the game we had lunch at a new venue, Ocean Point Restaurant in Bukit Kemuning, as suggested by Rein Li Tan (he did not show up for lunch with the rest of us so we were left scrabbling to order as the restaurant had no menu). Beer was reasonable (RM17 a bottle) but the meal turned out to be expensive at RM70 a head without ordering any fancy stuff.
The winner today was Brian Stubbs with a fine score of 94 for 43 points – well done Brian. Runner up was Martin Belderink with 91 for 41 points. Best gross was Paul Geddes with an 83 and most golf was David Evans with 105. Full results below :

The Monthly Trophy game for July was held at Staffield Country Resort with 5 full flights of 20 players. We all started on the Southern 9 at 8:00am sharp and followed this by playing the Western 9.
The course was in good shape overall and the weather cool and overcast for most of the round. We had a short 20 minute stoppage due to thunder and lightning after about 7 holes. After the game we had lunch at the clubhouse and the prize ceremony.

The winner of the July Monthly Trophy was Bernard Romahn with an excellent 82 for 42 points making it his 3rd consecutive win …… perhaps time to re-invoke the “Mike Smith Penalty Rule”! Second place was tied between Stan Constantinides and Stuart Taylor, both on 40 points, with Stan getting it on count back. Best gross of the day was Geoff McLaws with an excellent 77. Most golf was won by Peter May with 114. Full results below:

We had 5 full flights at Bukit Unggul today and welcomed our new member Brian Buckley on his first official game (he did play at the Golf Charity Match but this was not scored).
2 notable senior moments this morning …….
We started on split tees on time at just before 8:00am and it was our Highest Gross Winner from last week, Martin Belderink, who kicked off the game with an honoroury exploding ball shot on the 10th tee!
The course was in better shape than I have seen for a while and the greens were very good although some still had a lot of sand on them. Some tee boxes need to be attended to however ….. and of course as usual the showers after the game were stone cold.
We had lunch at the club after the game with 18 people attending.
The winner today was Bernard Romahn with 82 for 42 points and runner up was Kevin Wiggins with 88 for 38. Best gross today was shared by Bernard Romahn and Mike Williams, both with 82. Full results below:

The update to the Convenor’s Mini Competition as as below:

After the heavy thunder and rainstorm overnight it was a welcome relief to find good conditions at Nilai Springs today, with only a few soggy patches on the course. The rest of the course was in good shape but I have to say that the revised convex shaped greens on the Island Nine are terrible posing a few problems to the players to keep the ball on the green.
We had 12 players today making 3 full flights. We welcomed guest Paul Collett having his first game at Loose Cannons since his recent arrival back to Malaysia.
The course was very quiet so we all got off on time at just before 8:30 and had a pleasant lunch at the club post game. Many thanks to Brian Stubbs who was celebrating another large birthday and kindly donated to the pot …. Happy Birthday Brian.
Close scores at the top of the board this week but our winner was Bernard Romahn with a 90 for 35 points. 3 players were all on 34 points but 2nd on count back was Reinli Tan with 97 for 34 followed by Ricardo Castro with 87 for 34 in 3rd place.
Best gross of the day was Ricardo Castro with an 87 and most golf of the day went to Martin Belderink with 111.

Our part-time Convenor, Ricardo Castro, had a few extra prizes today to add a little “spice” to the day’s golf and he has also kindly proposed a mini competition over the next 6 weeks he is at the helm with prizes for the best performing golfers over this time. The results to date for this Convenors Mini Competition are as follows:

There were 5 full flights today for our first game of July at Tasik Puteri. We played the Tasik and Puteri 9’s and got off almost without a delay …… only small hiccup was on saddling up in the buggies Kevin Wiggins could not find his clubs … he eventually checked his car and there they were …. as on his arrival at the club they had taken out his daughter’s small set of clubs instead of his ones. We should have insisted he played with those!
The course was in good condition and quite dry making it conjusive for some good scores. Greens were on the slow side.
We had planned after the game to have lunch at Restoran Chin Heong Rawang in Rawang but as the chef was sick we stayed on at the club and took lunch there …. apart from the very late arrival of my kung po chicken dish all went well.
It was a close call at the top of the table today with Roger McGowan winning) on count back) with 95 for 41 points from Kevin Wiggins with 86 for 41 points. Erol Akinci put in a good round with a 95 for 40. Best gross was Geoff McLaws with an 82 and worst gross of the day was Graham Cadman with a 116. Full results below:

We all arrived in good time for the June monthly medal as there were not many cars on the roads being the first working day after the Hari Raya Puasa holidays.
The lower handicappers teed off from hole 10, ordinary mortals from hole 1 and into the sun, but not to be worried we found our balls.
Our putting suffered a bit from the not fully recovered greens after the Ramadan course maintenance, the other part of the course were in very good conditions.
The winner of the June monthly medal were David Evans with 98/38, runner up me with 95/36, second runner up Ray Funnel 105/33.
Lowest gross, yes it should be one of the single handicapper shouldn’t and it was “long time no seen” Jason Winter with 83, Erol Akinci had the most gross with 107
All except two could make it to Restoran Loon Sing for the lunch and prize giving ceremony, personally I think the food were better last time.

Correction … Dave Evans score should have been 97 for 38 points.

Unfortunately we had to tee-off from hole one as second nine was not open yet.
Despite the morning rain the course was in excellent conditions and especially the greens, which were fast and had some holes with pin-placement on the borderline of put-able.
Lowest gross, even we had another 7-handicapper on the field, Geoff McLaws shoot a good 80 and the most golf ….yes Allan again.
Second runner up myself with 98/33, runner up Geoff McLaws 80/35 and the winner was Ricardo Castro with an excellent 82/40.
We welcome Enzo Filoni to Loose Cannons, a good golfer who I’m sure will be up there competing for the 50Rm and the monthly medal.
