Results – Nilai Springs Golf & Country Club – 14th February 2012

Cannons all,
Nearly all of them turned up Tuesday at Nilai Springs!
26 golfers; a record turnout for Loose Cannons, pitched up on a cloudless morning and with a good breeze blowing throughout it was perfect conditions to enjoy this very well maintained golf course. Playing the Island & Pines nines some good scoring was anticipated and so it turned out.
Nilai really is a good venue these days. The whole layout is well groomed and a delight to play. Even the Makan has improved and at least you can eat in relative comfort in nice surroundings. Well done NS.
The winner was Jeff Pearce with an outrageous 48 points and the R/U was Klaus Kretzschmar with an almost outrageous 45 points. The lowest gross was 79 by Geoff Parslow and the most golf was jointly played by Charlie & Alan with 118.
Jeff is cut 12 and Klaus the mandatory 1 stroke, lucky bugger.
Most of us stayed for the lunch which was good with 3 full tables of LC’s. See pics attached. With a contribution to the pot from a couple of early leavers we were left with a surplus of RM170. Good day all round.
One item of note {which I intended to announce at the table but forgot (a senior moment perhaps)} was that Tony Morris recently became our second member to pass the 250 games milestone. Congratulations Tony.
Another item was Bernhard leaving his phone at the club. NS called Tony to so advise. Kudos to NS staff for their honesty.

Results – Templer Park – 8th February 2012

Cannons all,

Templer Park has to be one of the best course layouts in the country with a backdrop that is unsurpassed. The only blemish as I have said many times being the hideous house at the base of the Tigers Tooth. With some money spent here this could and should be up there with the best hosting the Malaysian Open again. Bright sun with almost no breeze greeted the 16 Cannons comprising 14 regulars and 2 new faces; Charlie & Bruce. Welcome to Cannons.

The course was in good shape but recent heavy rain had left several very soft areas resulting in a few plugged balls. The greens were a bit bumpy having been recently hollow tined but quite fast. Templer is always a challenge and so it proved with nobody playing to their handicap.

The winner with 32 points was Ray Funnell with Vincent Vijayan R/U OCB with 31 points. The best gross was 91 from Andrew Robinson and the most golf was played by new boy Charlie. Ray is cut 4 strokes and Vincent 1 stroke.

M&M was taken at the Annex where the service is very slow but the food quite good and the beverage affordable.

Results – Staffield Golf Resort – 30th January 2012

Cannons all,
Staffield was in very good condition and with pleasant weather it was a pleasure to be playing there again. It’s still one of the best tracks in my opinion and well worth the extra 10 mins travel time.
We had 15 Cannons and a guest; Mike Low, Ray Funnell’s guest is a member at Staffield and generously donated a voucher for 1 free flight. Thanks Mike. Cannons hope to see you again. We also had a rare visit from Mike Han who played off the wrong handicap. This will be corrected for his next appearance.
This was the Trophy Game for January and some very good scores were returned; 3 players with 40 points. But with the bonus points the winner was Hans Berger with 39 points on the day plus 4 bonus points for a total of 43 points. The R/U ocb with 40 + 1 was Geoff Parslow. The lowest gross of the day was Geoff’s 77 and the most golf was played by Alan.
Hans is cut 4 strokes and Geoff 1 stroke.
The full results and adjusted handicaps can be found in the attachment.
M&M was at the Sheng Gee Restoran in Mantin and very good it too. 12 of us enjoyed the meal and thanks to Mike Low’s donation we had a considerable surplus.

Results – Kajang Hill Golf Club – 25th January 2012

Cannons all,
KH was in good condition and with lovely weather 12 LC’s enjoyed their golf and with few other golfers playing we were all round in good time.
As for the future of this great course no one seems to know. Depending on who you talk to it’s demise seems to vary from weeks to several months but as there was plenty of evidence of ongoing maintenance lets hope this means that it’s months and many of them.
The winner was myself with 41 points with Andre Holm R/U on 40 points. Geoff Parslow had the lowest gross with a 79 and Barry Cousins played the most golf with 102.
I’m cut 5 and Andre 1.
M&M was taken at the club as part of the package and was the usual good standard and we had a surplus on the day of RM10. The LC kitty now stands at RM585.
