Results – Palm Garden Golf Club – 24th April 2018

We had a bumper turnout this week at Palm Garden Golf Club with 32 players attending. Whether it was the good course that attracted players or the free lunch and drinks courtesy of our Birthday Boys Ted Parslow & Hans Berger …. we are not sure.

Our 8 flights got off smoothly from two tee boxes at 7:30am and we were all back in the clubhouse before 12:30pm as a heavy rain storm hit – the last flight unfortunately had to abandon the last hole and only played 17 holes …. more of that later!

The course was in really nice condition and as always the greens were testing. Being able to drive the buggies on the fairways and having caddies certainly speeded play up.

We had lunch at the club after the game and the food and drinks were very kindly sponsored by Hans Berger and Ted Parslow who were celebrating a combined birthday of 150 years!! A big Thank You to both Hans and Ted for this kind gesture. The club also provided gifts for the Birthday Boys and some vouchers as lucky raffle prizes. Hans and Ted were presented with two birthday cakes adorned with their national flags (thanks to Ricardo for arranging this)

Results

The winner today was David Evans with 39 points – and this was his score after only completing 17 holes as he was in the last flight that did not play the last hole. Well done David. Runner up was Kaz Takita with 92 for 38 points. Best gross was Andrew Cseszko and Jason Winter both with 82. Full results below.

Note : For the 4 players in the last flight who missed the last hole their gross was calculated by using a gross score on the last hole that gave them zero Stableford points)

Results – Amverton Cove Golf & Island Resort – 17th April 2018

IMG_8783

We had only 3 flights today at Amverton Cove with 12 players heading at from Hole No 1 at 8:00am. Weather conditions were good and the course was generally ok but the back 9 greens had large areas of sand around the aprons making it sometimes difficult for the approach shots. We were not held up around the course and everyone was back by 12:30 or so for lunch on the golfer’s deck. Lunch was pretty average in terms of food quality and rather expensive compared to othere restaurants outside – perhaps time to reconsider a change.

One other issue noticed on the course today was a group games activity being held between the 9th and the 18th greens directly in front of the clubhouse with a large crowd of noisy participants shouting and screaming – not exactly helping golfers on those greens trying to concentrate on their putts. I realise that Amverton Cove is now offering a multitude of activities from archery, ATV driving, power boat rides in the lake and other team games but they should remember their prime activity is golf and these other activities should not impinge on the golfers while they are playing. Perhaps they should relocated some of these team activities away from the areas near the course.

Results

The winner today with a very steady round was Andrew Robinson with a score of 99 for 37 points and he was the only player who managed to better their handicap today. Joint runners up were Bernard Romahn (86/34) and Iain Wise (98/34). Best gross was Geoff McLaws with an 84 and Brian Stubbs got the best strokes per $ out of the game. Full results below:

Results – Bukit Kemuning Golf & Country Resort – 10th April 2018

IMG_8679

We had 5 full flights today at Bukit kemuning and we got off on two 9’s at 8:00am. The course was not in the best of condition – many bare patches on the fairway and the greens were very sand and bumpy. Weather was good though and we all managed to finsh at a reasonable time (all except the last flight who took another 45 mins to reach the restaurant!). We had lunch at the New O&S Seafood Restaurant in Bukit Kemuning with most people attending – food was good and beer was plentiful. It was a little more expensive than normal (RM70/head) – maybe we were all just thirsty.

Results

The winner today with a magnificent performance was David Evans with a score of 95 for 45 points. Runner up was Bernard Romahn with the best grosss of the day (78) for 43 points. Full results below:

Results – Nilai Springs Golf & Country Club – 3rd April 2018

IMG_8599

We only had 4 flights and 15 players this week at Nilai Springs with an earlier tee time of 7:30am to get off before a large competition. Two of our players arrived late having been lost on the way!! …. but we got off at around 7:40 on the Pines and Mango nines. Course conditions were very good and the greens rather fast – no doubt setup for the competition. Weather was very good so it was a very pleasant morning’s golf. We had lunch at the clubhouse following our game, which was as usual on the expensive side compared to an outside venue.

Results

The winner today was Siegmund Maierbrugger with a score of 86 for 41 points. Runner up was Bernard Romahn with 83 for 38 points. best gross of the day Was Niall Murray with 80. Full results as below:

Results – Staffield Country Resort – 27th March 2018

IMG_8494

After a very rainy night and a drizzly start to the day 23 players tee’d off on the Staffield North and South 9’s at 8:00am for our monthly trophy game. The course even after all the rain was good and at least the rain kept it very cool for most of the morning. We all got round in reasonable time and took lunch at the club after the game. One Tip of the Day is to order local dishes for lunch …. our fish and chips took more than 45 mins!!

Results

The winner of the March Monthly Trophy was Martin Walsh with a score of 83 for 39 points just beating Andrew Cseszko on countback. We had 3 players in 3rd place – Ricardo Castro, Kevin Wiggins and Roger McGowan all on 37 points. Best gross of the day was Andrew Cseszko with his excellent 76. Full scores listed below.

Melaka Away – 13-15 Mar 2018

Have sort of recovered from the Melaka Away golf tour 2018.

It was truly nice three days and thanks to Mike Smith local knowledge we experienced two new excellent eateries; The Curly Tail located not far from the Jonker Street and Pampas Sky Dining on top of the Swiss Gardens Residence located just a few steps from our excellent hotel Ramada. Three of us ordered Pork Knuckles at The Curly Tail, it was stated as small on the bill, it was XXXL, only our Dutch participant managed to finishing it. Melaka from above at night it’s impressive with the new Hilton Hotel in the distance along the shore line.

We played Ayer Kerohs Govenor and Ghaffar nines as our normal Tuesday game and with its 6200 metres from white it’s not a pushover.
Results;
– Winner Stan Constantinides with 95/34

– Second Martin Walsh with 93/30
– Third Hans Berger 104/29

Orna was our selection for day one Melaka Away 2018. We started with the North course which we may have not played before, it’s only 2565 metres. Yeah perhaps it lacked a bit of maintenance but for me anyway, very nice to play. Second nine we played the West Course it’s some 300 metres longer and more challenging.

The second day Malaka Away was held at Tiara Melaka, I think the better of the three golf courses in Melaka and they are all located just a few km’s apart.
The three flight was sorted as per the first days results;
– flight 1, Martin Belderink, Ray Funnel and Ian Wise
– flight 2, Roger McGowan, Hans Berger and Stan Constantinides
– and the leader-board with Mike Smith, Martin Walsh and Ricardo Castro

The point span going into the last day here was from 25 to 38.
We begun with the Lake nines (2735 metres), and it was in a very good condition with ample grass on the fairways and very god greens. Woodlands (2854 metres) was our second nine, also very good but lacked grass on the fairways on some of the dense forest areas holes. I would like to suggest that they should cut every third tree or so to get some air in, it’s terrible hot there.

We had a few very good scores this last day and a few whom may feel a bit disappointed.

Results;
– winner like last year Martin Walsh with 79 points (nine points more than he had 2017 but then we played Ayer Keroh)
– second Martin Belderink 72 points with an excellent 87/43 today
– third Ricardo Castro with 71 points
See below for details

The winner received a box of good Callaway golf-balls and all could take a pick from the golf-courses caps and towels as a memory, all payed from our kitty.
I suppose we all reflect a bit on our experience and results; mine are the three nines I played best and like the most; Ayer Keroh’s Ghaffar, Orna’s North Course and Tiara Melaka’s Lake with an average point of 19.33 per nine.

Food for thoughts; perhaps for the next Melaka Away each of us should select in advance which six holes per course I will use for the total away point calculation.

Results – Templer Park Country Club – 13th March 2018

IMG_8246

With the main Loose Cannons group away to Malacca for 3 days tour there were 8 of us wanting to play here in KL so we played at the beautiful Templer Park Country Club. It was a stunning morning with bright blue skies but of course it was hot and humid. Even after the heavy rain of yesterday the course was in great condition and with few people playing it was to be a fairly quick round, at least for the first flight!

We had lunch after the game at the club which is a little expensive but very good.

As well as being the winner today, Geoff McLaws was also the loser ….. his mobile phone taken from the open buggy on the 18th hole by a monkey!! be careful guys and lock your valuables away.

Results

The winner was Geoff McLaws with a round of 76 for 38 points with Stuart Taylor runner up with a 92 for 32 points. Full results below:

Results – Impian Golf & Country Club – 6th Mar 2018

We had 5 full flights at Impian this week starting a little later at 8:30am (once the Convenor eventually arrived) and got off from two tee boxes. The weather was very hot and extremely humid and along with the very slow play we encountered made for a very exhausting 5 hour round of golf.

The course was in very good condition as it usually is although the greens were maybe on the slow side. We finished after 1:30pm so by the time we got to the restaurant and ordered lunch it was almost 3pm when we ate.

Lunch and drinks were very kindly sponsored by Kaz Takita who was celebrating his big 70th birthday – a very Happy Birthday Kaz! Thank you very much.

Results

The winner was Kaz Takita with an excellent round of 89 for 42 points. Runner up was Niall Murray with an 80 (best gross of the day) for 33 points. Full results below:

Results – Kota Seriemas Golf & Country Club – 27th February 2018

IMG_7934.jpg

The Monthly Trophy Game was held at Kota Seriemas Golf & Country Club with 5 flights, 20 players and one guest. The course was relatively quiet so we got way sharp at 8:00am under wonderful conditions. The course was in good condition generally but we did notice that the tees were very dry and bare and the greens were not as good as before.

After the game we retired to the Loon Sing Restaurant close to the highway for lunch and the prize ceremony.

Results

The winner of the February Monthly Trophy was Stan Constantinides with a score of 92 for 38 points just beating the runner up, Stuart Taylor, on countback who shot a 85 for 38 points. Well done Stan!!
