Results – Bukit Kemuning – 1st August 2017

IMG_4962

The first game of August was played at Bukit Kemuning Golf & Country Resort with 19 players attending. We got off from two tee boxes at 8:00am sharp and most players were not held up during the round. The course is looking a little more unkempt than normal and the greens on the back 9 were very bad – sandy and uneven.

After the game we had lunch at a new venue, Ocean Point Restaurant in Bukit Kemuning, as suggested by Rein Li Tan (he did not show up for lunch with the rest of us so we were left scrabbling to order as the restaurant had no menu). Beer was reasonable (RM17 a bottle) but the meal turned out to be expensive at RM70 a head without ordering any fancy stuff.

Results

The winner today was Brian Stubbs with a fine score of 94 for 43 points – well done Brian. Runner up was Martin Belderink with 91 for 41 points. Best gross was Paul Geddes with an 83 and most golf was David Evans with 105. Full results below :

IMG_4675

The Monthly Trophy game for July was held at Staffield Country Resort with 5 full flights of 20 players. We all started on the Southern 9 at 8:00am sharp and followed this by playing the Western 9.

The course was in good shape overall and the weather cool and overcast for most of the round. We had a short 20 minute stoppage due to thunder and lightning after about 7 holes. After the game we had lunch at the clubhouse and the prize ceremony.

Second place was tied between Stan Constantinides and Stuart Taylor, both on 40 points, with Stan getting it on count back. Best gross of the day was Geoff McLaws with an excellent 77. Most golf was won by Peter May with 114. Full results below:

Paul’s New Swing

Results – Bukit Unggul – 18th July 2017

We had 5 full flights at Bukit Unggul today and welcomed our new member Brian Buckley on his first official game (he did play at the Golf Charity Match but this was not scored).

2 notable senior moments this morning …….

  1. Paul Geddes made a detour in the morning on the way to golf (as he had “plenty of time”) to go to an ATM machine only to get stuck in bad traffic on his return trip to the club ending up being late and having to pay the RM20 fine …. just as well he went to the ATM!
  2. Stan Constantinides arriving early at the club in the dark made a wrong turn and drove down the buggy track to the golfer’s terrace area …. just as well he has a small car!

We started on split tees on time at just before 8:00am and it was our Highest Gross Winner from last week, Martin Belderink, who kicked off the game with an honoroury exploding ball shot on the 10th tee!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The course was in better shape than I have seen for a while and the greens were very good although some still had a lot of sand on them. Some tee boxes need to be attended to however ….. and of course as usual the showers after the game were stone cold.

We had lunch at the club after the game with 18 people attending.

Results – Nilai Springs – 11th July 2017

After the heavy thunder and rainstorm overnight it was a welcome relief to find good conditions at Nilai Springs today, with only a few soggy patches on the course. The rest of the course was in good shape but I have to say that the revised convex shaped greens on the Island Nine are terrible posing a few problems to the players to keep the ball on the green.

We had 12 players today making 3 full flights. We welcomed guest Paul Collett having his first game at Loose Cannons since his recent arrival back to Malaysia.

The course was very quiet so we all got off on time at just before 8:30 and had a pleasant lunch at the club post game. Many thanks to Brian Stubbs who was celebrating another large birthday and kindly donated to the pot …. Happy Birthday Brian.

Results

Close scores at the top of the board this week but our winner was Bernard Romahn with a 90 for 35 points. 3 players were all on 34 points but 2nd on count back was Reinli Tan with 97 for 34 followed by Ricardo Castro with 87 for 34 in 3rd place.

Best gross of the day was Ricardo Castro with an 87 and most golf of the day went to Martin Belderink with 111.

Results – Glenmarie – 6th June 2017

Another lovely day on the golf course, this time Glenmarie GCC Valley course with Loose Cannons and in the end last night we became full four flights. As expected the course were not busy and signing in saddling up and out on the course worked smoothly.

The course were in a very good nick and the few times I have played Glenmarie, the Valley course has always been my favorite and no difference today as it has a nice mixture of challenging and perhaps relaxing holes coupled with very nice large greens.

So how did it go;

– Bernard Romahn took the money with 87/39 and I think this course fits Bernards game

– Ricardo Castro came second with 85/37

– Iain Wise came third with 95/37, with as niot good second nine

– Lowest gross 85 were shared by Geoff McLaws and Ricardo Castro

– Allan Wright had no competitor at all for the most gross

– Tony Morris five-putted the par three hole fifteen after an excellent tee shot

We had the lunch at the clubs restaurant, food were good, Carlsberg beer tasted as it should but the service a bit slow but it’s Ramadan after all isn’t it.

Results – KGSAAS – 18th April 2017

IMG_3413

There were 20 Loose Cannons members and one guest today at KGSAAS playing the President and Sultan 9’s. The course was rather wet in many places making it hard going with no run on the ball and the ball dieing on the soft fringes of the greens if you didn’t reach the green. The green conditions however was quite good although a little sandy in places.

Weather was overcast and cloudy with the imminent danger of a thunder and rain storm hanging over us throughout the game. However we all managed to finish with only a light bit of rain as we played the last hole.

We had lunch at the clubhouse after the game and Erol Akinci very kindly donated RM300 to celebrate his 300th game recently – many thanks Erol.

Results

Scores were not great today because of the poor conditions. The winner was Peter Kenyon with 96 for 36 points on count back from ReinLi Tan with 95 for 36 points. This was a back-to-back win by Peter Kenyon – luckily we are not playing to the old Mike Smith rules as he would have been severely punished. Best gross of the day was Geoff McLaws with an 81. Results – Impian Golf & Country Club – 4th April 2017

IMG_3289.jpg

It was a later start today at Impian Golf & Country Club with a tee off time of 8:30. We got off from 2 tee boxes but it was a bit later than 8:30 and then because of very slow play it took us 5 hours to complete the round. It was therefore a very tiring and very hot day. The course however was in good shape although the greens were a little sandy and uneven in places.

Weather was good but hot so everyone was glad to finish and get to the restaurant for some cold beers. Luckily the restaurant, Fei Wai, was open all afternoon as 11 of us attanding the lunch got there close to 3pm. The restaurant has changed hands and is now called Kajang Crab …. food was still very good and reasonable so we will no doubt be returning here again.

Results

The clear winner today was Bernard Romahn with a tremendous round of 82 for 44 points …. surprising he wasnt’ there at the lunch to bask in the glory. We did contribute his winnings to the pot towards lunch … thank you Bernard! Runner up was Ted Parslow with a 85 for 37 points. Best gross of the day was Geoff McLaws with an 80. Full scores below.

Results – Tasik Puteri – 28th March 2017

IMG_3202

We had 6 full flights at Tasik Puteri this morning for the monthly trophy game for March 2017. We all got off from two tee boxes on Puteri and Putera promptly at 8:00am after an efficient check in. Weather was good and the course, although a little wet in places, was in pretty good shape. By the end of the round it was getting hot but we all finished by around 12:30 with no hold ups which was good.

We had lunch at the usual Chin Hiong Restaurant back on the road towards Rawang for the prize giving. Stuart Taylor, having notched up 200 games with the group, kindly donated RM200 to the pot towards lunch and beers.

Results

The winner today of the Monthly Trophy for March 2017 was Roger McGowan with a tremendous 45 points and 92 gross. Runner up was Roger Surieux with 90 for 43. David Savage came 3rd (with his newly acquired official handicap of 17) and a score of 83 for 42 ….. his handicap will be severly cut next week due to his few games and this great score. Best gross of the day was Geoff McLaws with 80. Full scores tabulated below:

Malacca Away – 22/23 March 2017 – Ayer Keroh & Tiara Melaka

Here is the report as penned by our Convenor from the 2 day away golf trip to Malacca along with the results and some photos.

Phuu, I feels and looks like a lobster today after three days in the sun with Loose Cannons playing the ordinary Tuesday game at Kota Seriemas GCC located in Nilai. And the Malaka Away 2017 at Ayer Keroh CC Wednesday and Tiara Melaka GCC yesterday, both located in Ayer Keroh.

Melaka and these courses are familiar ground for the LC’s. Twelve of us made it for the two day competition namely; Andrew Robinson, Bernard Romahn, Brian Stubbs, Geoff Mclaws, Iain Wise, Martin Walsh, Mike Smith, Ray Funnel, Ricardo Castro, Roger MCGowan, Roger Surieux and my-selves.

We started off with Ayer Keros Govenor and Ghaffar nines on a hot and sunny day after various well selected restaurants and waterholes the evening before.

We were all pumped up but not a single of us beat the course, nearest came Andrew with 33 points followed by Mike, Geoff and Roger S on 32, one notch further down was Martin with 31. Unfortunately Ted Parslow could not stay for day two, otherwise his 34 would have been competitive the second day.

As Ayer Keroh don’t serve beers until after 18.00 we went to Tiara Melaka for the lunch. After a well deserved M&M intake we went back to the Ramada Plaza for a rest and to get ourselves in the mood for the common dinner at Bistro 1673 at Jonker Street which we think, is the best restaurant for a group like us in Melaka.

The following morning at the breakfast we were even more determined, this is the day we all have been waiting for.

Second day weather forecast were 61% precipitation of T-storms in the afternoon, we got nothing of that but sun all day long instead.

After registration at Tiara Melaka we got the bad news we are playing Lake and Medow nines, not that they are bad courses but we had hoped for Woodland as we thought we could stopped by at Mikes place for a cold lemonade or so in the shade of a tree, not to be lah.

So how did it go: Ray beat the course by one, Bernard played on his par, and he had the biggest improvements compare to first days scores.

– 67 points gave Geoff McLaws a well deserved third place

– Andrew Robinson managed to my surprise to improve on previous days score to clock 68 points for a second place

– and the winner is Martin Walsh with 70 points, he beat the course by three. Well played Loose Cannons Away 2017 Champion, Martin Walsh.

– I got the wooden-spoon, must have been the “convenor pressure”

Below you will find various pictures taken by the players, many thanks for that.

Being a Swede I could not stop myself from taking a picture of the H&M shop located across the street of Hard Rock. End of 2016 Hennes & Mauritz had 3962 shops worldwide.

Results – Kota Seriemas Golf & Country Club – 21st March 2017

IMG_3114

It’s not often that our group get the chance to play a new golf course as we have probably played all of the golf courses in and around KL and the Klang Valley over the many years that our group has been running. However a new golf course popped up on our radar having just been completed at the later part of last year – Kota Seriemas Golf & Country Club, a public course close to KLIA and Nilai.

Hans and Aftab had already checked out the course over a week ago and they gave it the thumbs up. So 24 players showed up today for our weekly game at this new venue, Mike Smith pitching up barely in time for the tee-off at 8:00am and well past the 7:30 check-in time – he was duly fine the usual RM20.

The clubhouse was impressive with beautiful changing rooms, a very nice pro shop and an open restaurant area overlooking the course.

Our 4 flights got off at just after 8:00am on the two 9’s, which are somewhat different from each other. The first 9 is fairly open and flat whereas the back 9 is much more hilly and undulating with some very highly elevated greens. The course has been designed and maintained very well and is very scenic with some great views from the elevated holes.

For a new course it was very well presented and very mature considering it is in its early days. Many water features were on the course and many large steep bunkers which appeared to me to be back-to-front around the greens with the high sloping faces directed towards the greens rather than the other way around ….. very strange.

It was a fairly tough course and very long … even from the whites tees.

We all got round by around 12:30 and had lunch at the clubhouse. Food and service was average but reasonably priced ….. a big thumbs down however was their no beer policy …. shame.

Scores were low today given that the course was pretty tough and the fact that it was very unfamiliar to us all. Our winner today was Mike Smith with 96 for 35. Runners up were Geoff McLaws (82 for 33) and Ted Parslow (88 for 33). Geoff McLaws had the best gross of the day with his 82. Full scores below:
