Poll Results on Loose Cannons Annual Membership Fee

The results of the poll about membership fee for Loose Cannons is now closed and the results are tabulated below.

http://www.google.com/reviews/polls/display/-1758604450601157025/blogger_template/run_app?txtclr=%23333333&lnkclr=%23993333&chrtclr=%23993333&font=normal+normal+12px+Verdana,+Geneva,+sans-serif;&hideq=true&purl=http://loosecannonskl.blogspot.com/
We had a total of 30 votes cast with a majority of members (50%) voting for an annual fee at RM100.

I would propose therefore that we now go ahead and impose an annual fee of RM100 on ALL members commencing 1st January 2015.

Any new members joining in 2014 will have to pay the RM100 fee (RM50 if they join after end of June).

Next Game – Saujana Impian Golf & Country Club – 15th April 2014

We will be playing at Saujana Impian Golf & Country Club next week on Tuesday 15th April – with a tee-off booked for 5 flights off 2 tee boxes at 7:30am. Please can you confirm if you will be attending by return e-mail.
Please be at the club promptly by 7:10 latest so we can finalise registration.
Cost will be RM150 per pax – this will include green fee/buggy/insurance and 1 compulsory caddy per flight (if available.) Additional caddies will be at players’ individual expense. AS part of the promotional rate we also get free buffet lunch so if any player wishes to stay and use this they can – otherwise we will eat offsite at the restaurant suggested below.
Lunch will be taken at a nearby restaurant (recommended by Andre) …… it is 7km/15 mins away from the club. The tables will be booked for lunch but no food will be pre-ordered – we will order once all the players arrive. See New System for Lunch below

New System for Lunch
In order to simplify lunch arrangements where some people may not want to join for lunch, some people don’t drink, some people only take tea, some people drink beer, and some people drink wine we will try a new system as follows:
1. The fees collected in the morning at registration will cover green fees/buggy/insurance/caddy(if compulsory) plus a nominal uplift to cover for the winners RM50 and the monthly trophies. Any slight excess will be added to the Loose Cannons float.
2. A lunch venue will be decided and recommended to members if they wish to join.
3. No pre-ordering of food will be done as this can cause over ordering if players don’t show up for lunch and hence cause increased expense to all those taking lunch
4. The lunch bill will be divided by all players attending lunch
5. ALL drinks will be ordered separately by individuals or groups wanting the same drink and will be for individual accounts … i.e. paid for at time of order. This will prevent complaints by members who perhaps don’t drink or disparity between those taking beer and those taking wine. The restaurant booked will be informed that only the food bill will be communal and ALL drinks will be paid for by the individual.
I hope this new system may help in any disparity in the current system … let’s give it a try.

Results – Bangi Golf Resort – 8th April 2014

Report

It’s been many years since I have played Bangi so it was a joy to return to this club and see how it had matured. The course is in very good condition with well maintained cow grass fairways and very good (and fast) greens. We played off the white tees as normal Loose Cannons policy but if we play here again we would play the blues as the whites are a little short.
The clubhouse needs some attention and is certainly showing its age in the changing rooms and showers. The restaurant now is very basic with no beer – hence our choice for post game lunch offsite.
We had 22 players confirmed and we had one last minute pull out by Mr Moss who was unwell and unable to leave the close proximity of his toilet facilities. So that left the awkward 21 players – 3 flights of 3 balls and 3 flights of 4 balls. After some confusion at the start, caused by the overzealous organisers at the club who had printed score cards for everyone with the incorrect flight allocations not knowing that we randomised the flights just prior to tee-off. Nevertheless we all got off at around 7:45am or just after and were relatively unimpeded round the course completing the round by 12:30 or so.
We welcomed back Peter Jackson (Jacko) who has not played since last year with guest Willi Kramheller. We also saw the return of Mike Han to the fold and welcomed a new guest Brian Sage who was sampling our golf society – lets hope he will decide to join us on a regular basis.
We had some good scores today given the short course with 8 players playing to handicap or better. The winner today with a magnificent 92 for 43 points was Brian Stubbs – well done. Second on count back was Peter Jackson with a score of 100 for 38. Best gross of the day was Paul Geddes with 86.
We had lunch at the Restoran East of the Highway (which as pointed out by Peter Jackson is actually WEST of the highway!) Only 16 players made lunch with 2 not showing up after earlier commitment – Mr Moneybags will be approaching these 2 players next week to contribute to the lunch costs which had all been pre-ordered. The lunch was pretty good with plenty of food given the no-shows all washed down with beer and wine. From the restaurant it was a short drive back home.
We will keep this course on our regular list of playing courses as it is in good condition, is close to town and now we have a reasonable lunch venue post-game.

Loose Cannons New Shirts & Caps

All,

Our existing Loose Cannons golf shirts are getting a little tired and as suggested before it is time to get some new ones. We have reviewed golf shirt designs and materials from GolfDirect (Pin High) where KLOGS have recently had their shirts designed and have decided on a suitable design with a choice of two colours.
Material
The material of this shirt is “Cool Dry Performance” which should be ideal for this climate and they are available in a wide selection of sizes as given below.
Design
The design chosen has 2 colour options – IrishGreen/White or Navy/Blue Span/White as shown in the attached photos (apologies for the model!).

Logo

A Loose Cannons logo as attached will be on the front of the golf shirt and on the cap.
Sizes

Costs

Cost of the shirts will be RM125 to all Loose Cannons members. This is slightly more than the actual cost so we can maintain a small stock of additional shirts for new members or for members wanting to buy additional shirts later. Because the company will not do small numbers of shirts/caps it will be better to order slightly over our requirements now when making this initial order.
Additionally we can also order golf caps with the same “Cool Dry Performance” material and with our Loose Cannons logo on the front of the cap as shown below for a cost of RM55 per cap.
We will need to really have a minimum order of 20 or more shirts/caps so can you indicate by return e-mail if you would like a shirt and state size and colour. Also please state if you would like a golf cap. Once I have received all the orders we can place the order and they should be available in about a week after this. If you wish to order more than one shirt (perhaps you like both the colours!) or more than one cap then please do so.

Next Game – Bangi Golf Resort – 8th April 2014

In an endeavour to play some alternative courses that we have not played at for a long time we shall play at Bangi Golf Resort next week on 8th April. I have tentatively booked 5 flights for a tee-of at 7:45am from 2 tee boxes. Cost will be RM120 per player.
As this club has a rather poor (and dry!) restaurant and the surrounding area is also rather devoid of any good restaurants we shall be having lunch  offsite at a Chinese restaurant about 20 mins drive away on the way back to KL. Details are as follows:

Restoran East Of Highway

1-1, Jalan SR 8/4, Taman Putra Indah, Serdang Raya, Seri Kembangan, 43300, Seri Kembangan, Selangor
43300
Malaysia
TEL: +60 3-8943 3017
Two tables have been booked and food pre-ordered for 1:00pm to 1:30pm approx.
PLEASE INDICATE BY RETURN E-MAIL IF YOU ARE NOT TAKING LUNCH WITH US.
Directions are attached but simply are:
1) Leave Bangi Golf Resort and head back to N-S highway and head north back to KL
2) After driving through Sungai Besi toll keep left and take first road signposted to Serdang which loops back round left to Jalan Serdang Raya
3) Drive past Caltex station, road turns right then take next right and restaurant is directly on left. Park where you can.
Note: The Google maps directions show an extra loop going round the roundabout at the racecourse but the road setup has changed so you will head left off highway then go directly onto Jalan Serdang Raya.

Results – Monterez Golf Club – 1st April 2014

Report
An excellent turnout of 23 players for the game today at Monterez Golf Club. We teed off from 2 tee boxes shortly after our allocated time of 7:45 – held up slightly by some late comers who arrived only at 7:40ish!
The weather was good albeit very humid and the course was relatively quiet so we made good time round the 2 9’s. Conditions of the course was good, the fairways were a little uneven and patchy but the greens were in excellent shape. The greens keeper was either very vindictive or had a bad night last night as the hole positions on most of the greens were cut in tough, sloping locations. The course played rather short which was reflected in the scoring of the day.
9 out of the 23 players played to or below their handicaps which will mean the Handicap Manager’s knife will be out this evening before next game! The winner with a great score of 96 for 41 points was Robert Mulliss. Second, on count back from Kevin Wiggins and Andrew Robinson, was Ted Parslow with 39 points. Best gross of the day was 78 from Ted Parslow – well done!
Lunch was taken at the Choong Foong Seafood Restaurant close to the club and the meal enjoyed by everyone by all accounts. We will for sure use this venue again as the food and drink are reasonable and the parking is good.

Results – Malacca Tour – 25th – 27th March 2014

Loose Cannons had a very successful 3 day away tour to Malacca from 25-27 March playing at Orna, Tiara Melaka and Ayer Keroh. The Bayview Hotel was used as a base as we did last year. A brief report and photos for each day are included below.
Day 1 – Orna Golf Club

The monthly trophy game was held at Orna Golf Club with conditions hot, dry and windy. Fairways were very dry and hard but the greens were good albeit very tricky. We had 20 players on the day, including Geoff McLaws who came down for the day for the monthly trophy game.
The winner of the day was Andrew Robinson with a great score of 92 for 39 points. Geoff McLaws came 2nd with 80 (lowest gross of the day) for 36 points.

Day 2 – Tiara Melaka Golf Club

Following the monthly trophy game we then had a 2 day competition starting with Tiara Melaka on the first day. The course was in very good shape and well watered in the current dry conditions with good greens albeit a little slow. The weather was very hot requiring players to take on plenty of fluids to make it sound the 18 holes.
Winner of the day was Ted Parslow with 82 for 37 points and second was David Hughes with 86 for 35 points.

Tour Dinner – Bistro 1637 – Jonkers Street

We had a group dinner on the Wednesday evening at Bistro 1637, which turned out to be expensive with a poor selection and quantity of food. However the group did have a good evening helped no doubt by plentiful refreshments and ended up singing along with the local band to round off the evening.

Day 3 – Ayer Keroh Golf Club

The last day of the four was at Ayer Keroh Golf Club – a tough and long course so with an even hotter day and with many players nursing a hangover it was a challenge. Martin Walsh managed to come down and join us for this game so making up a full 5 flight complement of 20 players. We had 3 players who did not finish on the day due to the arduous conditions. he course was fairly green compared to the dry courses of the previous 2 days and again greens were excellent but very tricky.
Winner of the day was Geoff Parslow with 81 points for 35 points and second was Hans Berger with 95 for 34 points.

Results

The 2 day competition was won by Geoff Parslow on count back with a total of 65 points and Stuart Taylor came second also with 65 points. David Hughes was third with a total of 62 points.
There was a large number of prizes for various positions which were presented in the clubhouse following the game.

Results – Kota Permai – 18th March 2014

Report
Kota Permai was in excellent condition as 23 Loose Cannons players descended on the lush, green fairways. We had 6 flights and we managed to tee off at around or shortly after 7:30 from 2 tee boxes as planned.
The fairways were in excellent shape as were all the bunkers and the greens ran true and fast as they normally do at this wonderful course.
The winner today was Kevin Wiggins with a great score of 83 for 40 points – well done Kevin. Joint runners up were Geoff McClaws (78 for 38 points) and Robert Mulliss with 100 for 38 points. Geoff McClaws also had the best gross of the day.
Lunch was held at the New Fu Yen Restaurant which was very good and aided by kind donations from Ray Funnell and Kevin Wiggins who celebrated their recent 300th and 200th games respectively. Thank you both for the kind donations. Tony Morris was presented at lunch with the January Trophy which was not available at the time he won it – please see photo of Tony and the January Trophy below in the Photo section.
Thanks also to Barry Cousins who made the booking at Kota Permai.
One amusing incident of the day transpired with an apparent “golf buggy accident” with our 4-ball group including Bernhard Romahn, Bernie Schobert, Vincent Vijayan and Iain Wise. The buggy in question, which sustained some damage, was of course commandered by our very own “Desert Fox” Bernhard Romahn, known well for his previous exploits of buggy driving skills and through-bunker-navigation. This has inspired an immediate release of a new movie to follow up from the previous Desert Fox poster which was popularly received by Herr Romahn as detailed below for your viewing pleasure.
