It was nice to play again the most hated course in KL for some of our members. The weather was nice and the course conditions were very good. The winner today was Jose Winter with a reasonable 89 for 36 points followed by Martin Belderink (again) with 103 for 29 points and in third place Bernhard Romahn with 91 for 29 points. With these results, Montano Yee is the February winner with a nice 77 points followed by Bernhard with 74. For the LCOTY competition, Bernhard cemented his first position with 34 points, followed by Martin Belderink and Montano Yee with 20 points. We had a good lunch with some delays in serving the food but overall was nice and especially with the member’s price on our bill (thanks to Siggy’s friend). For sure we will be back and play again the Lakes course.
Thanks to very fast action from Fritz, it was no problem to book three flights at Staffield. We had some problems with Rahman Putra, where a reservation was made, and because of a payment done on (only??) Thursday morning, suddenly the whole course was full……
We teed off at Staffield with three full flights at around 8 am on a beautiful course in excellent condition. From tee to green, we couldn’t have much to complain about. Also, the weather was very good, with hardly any sun, and a nice breeze which kept the temperature down. In spite of the rain the night before, the fairways were dry and it was very rewarding to see the extra meters we got with good drives. In short, a good (second) choice after the problems at Rahman Putra.
And everything reflected in the scores: 4 of us played their handicap or better: Hans was fourth with 36 points, Montano third with 37 points, Hemlut came in second place with 39 points, but Bernhard (again!!) had 40 points with a gross score of 81 and therefore the winner of the day. With these results, Montano is now leading the monthly competition with 77 points, followed closely by Bernhard with 74, and in third place Helmut with 72 points closing the top three.
Bernhard had to come forward a second time because he was also the winner of the month of January 2023. Well done!
We welcomed two new official LC members. Both Montano and Fritz played their fifth game and received the LC cap and a sleeve of balls. For Fritz, it was a very special day as he celebrated his birthday today. Fritz thanks for the contribution!
With a good lunch and a couple of beers, we finished the morning and we’ll see each other back at Rahman Putra next week.

On Valentine’s day, we played Bangi and after not having played the Bangi nine for a couple of years, we played it today together with the Kajang nine. Our expectations were high for the “new” Bangi nine, however, we were a bit disappointed. The quality of tees, fairways, and greens was good, no complaints there, but the course layout was a bit boring. Hardly any trees, no bunkers, wide open fields of grass. Not too exciting.
The Kajang nine is more mature of course, but there, in particular, the greens were very bumpy, sandy, and therefore a bit of a frustration.
But we had a great morning, full of love with three full flights, and Montano took two guests with him, both from Korea, wanting to get out of the winter cold and play in Malaysia.
As usual, we had a great lunch at East of Highway, during which we presented Lee and Jay with a sleeve of balls, and collected from Fritz 50 RM because of not passing the lady’s tees on one of the holes.
Montano and Fritz played their fourth game, so one to go for the Loose Cannons membership.
The one with the most points was Montano with 40 points, which is promising for his future games!! He had a gross score of 80!
The winner today was Michael with 36 points. He won on count back, leaving the two Dutchies, Jan and Martin, also with 36 points behind him. With these results, the February competition sees Martin leading the pack with 72 points followed by Ricardo and Josef with 36 points. A lot to fight for in the last two games of the month.
Next week we have the Hills course at Rahman Putra on the program
Back again to Beruntung and surprisingly the course was in good condition, after all the rain from the last days. Fairways were playable and some of them were quite dry with good greens except the last hole was sandy. With some light rain in the early morning, we had pleasant overcast weather all morning which was quite enjoyable. Josef and Michael had experienced a broken buggy, all of them are in very bad condition and I believe is time for some upgrade. The winner today was Ricardo Castro with an excellent 78 for 37 points, followed very close by Martin Belderink with a good 96 for 36 points, and Josef Winter and Siggy shared the third with 92 and 94 for 32 points. The restaurant Full Moom was closed and we decided to go to Pantai Seafood for a nice lunch with great food and cold beers. Bangi will be our destination next week.
Cheers
Ricardo

It was a truly great golfing day today. The course at Amverton was in great condition, from tees to greens. The weather was very kind to us, as the sun kept us away most of the time and it became only a bit warmer and humid when we were almost finished.
We teed off with four flights, two three balls, and two full flights. We missed Helmut because he got just outside the island with problems with his car and he had to wait almost two hours before his car could get towed away. Helmut, next time better, and maybe you should think about another car…..?
It was good that we were allowed to tee off at hole 1 and hole 2 because it was very busy at the course. One flight took indeed a long time because they were helped up by a jumbo flight on the second nine.
The scores were good today. Four players ended up with 37 points, but Bernhard won OCB (again….) on count back and took the RM 50 back home. Martin, Diederik, and Chia were the others with 37 points. With these results, Bernhard is the January winner with 75 points (the best 3rd score), followed by Diederik also with 75, and in third place Martin with 73.
The lunch was at the restaurant next to the bridge Kang Guan, with good food and drinks. We had a free lunch today thanks to the contribution from Diederik for his birthday and the generous contribution from Chia, because of the Chinese New Year. Many thanks, guys!!
During our lunch, we also celebrated the Loose Cannon Of The Year 2022. This is based on the monthly performances during the year, where points are given for places one to ten. You can all follow this in much more detail on the blog.
We gave prizes to the top 10, and for the others, we had a lucky draw. Number 10 was Roland, good for a sleeve of balls, numbers 9 and 8 (Mike and Bipan) were not present. Josef with number 7 won a pair of socks. Numbers 6 and 5 (Helmut and David Cheung) were not present. Chia with number 4 won a Loose Cannons 2023 cap. Iain, in the 3rd place, won a bottle of wine. Bernhard was number 2 good for 100 RM and the winner overall for last year, and therefore the Loose Cannon Of The Year 2022 was Ricardo!! He received the trophy with his name on it and a special shirt.
After that, we had a lucky draw between Dave, Hans, Jan, Martin, and Diederik, and the winner was Hans with Pampa’s bottle of wine voucher and the lucky boy was Hans Berger.

JANUARY FINAL STANDINGS.
FULL MEMBERSHIP GIFT CEREMONY. CONGRATULATIONS MICHAEL.
We played again at Bukit Jalil, after a long time. In hindsight not a good choice with all the rain we had the last time. The fairways were at several places very wet, and on top of that the greens were very difficult and sometimes fast, sometimes slow. Also on a number of holes, the holes themselves were not very well cut. In other words, a difficult morning.
But the company was good, and we had a good freshly cooked lunch afterward at the club.
We welcomed Michael for his 4th game, and Iain was back again after being away in the UK.
The condition of the course was reflected in the scores. After a long, long discussion, we agreed that Jan and Bernhard shared the second/third place and Martin was the winner with 33 points. With these results, the January competition standings stay the same as last week, keeping all open to the last game of the month next week at Amverton.
The weather was great for playing golf this morning. It was foggy on the way to Staffield and indeed a bit of mist was hanging over the course before we started. That disappeared very quickly and a well-maintained golf course was ready to get played on. Good fairways and fast greens on the first nine, slower on the back nine, made it a real enjoyment to play. The greens were quite variable as far as the speed was concerned, which made it not easy to master.
So we had a very good morning with also a variety of scores.
After lunch at the club, we congratulated Hans on his third place with 33 points, Martin was second with 36 points and Bernhard was the winner again with 38 points. Well done again Bernhard!! With these results, Bernhard lead the January competition with 75 points, followed very close by Diederik with 73 and in third place Martin with 69 (nice number!!).
We welcomed Fritz for his 2nd game and thank you, Fritz, for being a member there, because it made our lunch a bit cheaper, and Michael Fenner-Smith for his 3rd game.
Tan played a couple of weeks ago his fifth game and we now welcomed him as a full member of the Loose Cannons, with a bag tag, sleeve of balls, and a cap.
Always a very pleasant course to play. All holes are really different from each other and it is going up and down all the time. Challenges on both sides of the fairways, be it water, jungle, or OB, make this course very attractive.
The course was well maintained with good tees and fairways, and in particular on the first nine, very fast greens. The second nine had several sanded greens, which were slower but also not easy to read.
The weather was very nice to us, not too hot at all, only the last two holes were very wet as the rain decided to come down. A good lunch at the club finished in the morning.
After lunch, we congratulated Bernhard for being the last year’s December champion. Bernhard was also the winner of the competition during the Melaka away days, for which he got a new LC shirt, bright red!
The winner today was Diederik with 38 points, followed by Bernhard and Mike with 37 points and Josef and Roland with 35 points.
We had a great day at Impian this morning. Nice weather, not really busy and we could tee off at holes 1 and 10. That saved us quite some time as were with 4 flights. The course was as ever in very good condition, not wet at all, and the greens were very fast causing a lot of missed putts.
We had lunch at East of Highway with only 6 players. We should know that the lunch after the game is effectively part of the game, so we should really make a lot of effort to attend that as well!
The winner on this day was Bernhard with 37 points (not present at lunch), with the second-place split between Ricardo, Diederik, and Marvin all with 35 points. Ricardo, the only one of the three present, won second place on count back.
The third place was a tie between Martin and Michael Fenner Smith with 33 points each, who we welcomed for his second LC game.
Uwe Lukas played his fifth game but unfortunately was also not present during lunch to receive his gift. Also, Marvin Gan played his 3rd game
The last game of 2022 was held at Seri Selangor with a busy morning tee-off and overcast weather. We started on hole 10 with 2 flights in front of our group and in the first 10 holes the pace was reasonable, but after 12 holes all the long waiting started because the jumbo flight had some issues on par 3, and two to three flights starting to waiting for every hole until the 18th. It’s ridiculous how the club allows the jumbo flight to be the first one to tee off and soon or later it will be a big mess and long waiting. Anyway, back to the real golf, the course was nice and surprisingly dry with nice greens but always very tricky. Uwe Lukas played his 4th game and Montano his 3rd game with us. The winner today was Chia with 92 for 34 points, beating Hans Berger OCB followed by Tony Morris and Martin Belderink booth with 33 points. With these results, Bernhard Romahn wins the December competition with 74 points, followed by Martin Belderink with 69 (nice number) :-)))) and in third place Diederik Brinkman with 67 points. With this win, Bernhard consolidated second place in the LCOTY competition with 59 points passing Iain Wise who finished third with 56 points. The LC Player of the Year is Ricardo Castro with a record of 176 points closing an amazing year with four-time first place and six-time second place with a total of 49 games. The fourth of us had a good lunch at the Beer Factory. New year, new life, and hope more members can play more often and make this annual competition even more interesting. 2022 was one of the best years, if not the best year of LC history, with 12 new members, a new sponsor, a new shirt, interesting prizes, and gifts, great away games, good friendships, and an average of 3 flights every week which shows our society is alive and growing every year with new blood, given us the warranty for the future of the LCKL. Happy New Year to all and see you guys at Impian and open 2023 in style.
Cheers
Ricardo
