BKT BERUNTUNG REPORT-06-09-2022

Cannon’s

Because of two late cancellations, we teed off with two three balls at Bukit Beruntung. The course was in very good condition, in particular the greens. The weather was very nice to us with overcast skies during the first nine and more sunny weather during the last nine holes.
interesting that the two nines at Bukit Beruntung are so different in character. Both have their challenges, but the first nine always score better than the second nine.

The scores were very close with Andrew coming in last with 28 points and Jan and Dave first with 33 points. Dave won the voucher on count back (17 on the last nine against Jan 13.

We had a very good quality lunch at the Full Moon restaurant, with a number of good beers as well.

Next, we will be at Tasik Puteri

AMVERTON COVE REPORT-30-08-2022

Cannon’s

Today was a very fine day indeed to play Amverton Cove. The course was in very nice condition, in spite of all the rain we had over the last couple of days. Always a good and quiet course to play with the necessary challenges. The fairways were well maintained as were the greens. They became better as the day progressed because of drying up.

The weather was very friendly with an overcast sky and not too much sun.

The scores also showed good play and that we enjoyed ourselves. Ricardo ended as third with 37 points. Jan tried hard but his 40 points were not good enough to beat David Cheung who was the winner with 41 (!!) points. With these results, David Cheung is the Monthly winner with an impressive best 2 games of 83 followed by Ricardo Castro with 74, and in third place Chia with 72 points. For the LCOTY annual competition, Ricardo cemented his first position with 118 points followed by Bipan Kapur, Iain Wise, and Helmut Dicknoether all with 48 points. Javed Malik played his third game so two more and he will be a full member.

After the game, we had a very good lunch, the dishes ordered by Andrew, at I Suka (which means I Love, I learned on the way), accompanied by some good beers.

Next week Bukit Beruntung, don’t forget to read our blog, book your 2023 LC shirt, and sign up for Ipoh away games.

NILAI SPRINGS REPORT-23-08-2022

Cannon’s

Back to the beautiful Nilai Springs with 9 of us, playing Mango and Pines nines. Some of the fairways were quite soggy but overall were playable with nice, tricky, and fast greens. The weather was quite overcast with some dark clouds but we only had rain for 20 min on holes 6 and 7 Pines nine. The winner today was Chia with an excellent 95 for 37 points, followed by our guest Uwe Lukas with 100 for 32 points and in third place was Helmut with 99 for 30 points. With these results August competition saw Chia jump straight to first place with 72 points followed closely by David Cheung with 71 and Ricardo and Helmut with 68 and 66 respectively, so quite interesting will be the Amverton battle next week to grab the monthly prize. Javed, Lukas, and OC Tan played their second game so 3 more to be full members.

Cheers

IMPIAN REPORT-16-08-2022

Cannon’s,

We had a great morning at Impian with a nice group including three new potential members for their first game with us, Uwe Lukas, Javed Malik, and OC Tan, and hope you guys can join us more times and become full Loose Cannons members. The course was in great condition, with nice fairways and well-maintained greens. The winner today was Ricardo Castro with a gross of 80 for 37 points followed by our guests Javed and Lukas with the same points, but the rule is guests can’t win until they complete 5 games and become full members. Overall great results for everyone and especially for Hans who managed to play his hdc…Well done Hans. The next game will be at Nilai Springs, so prepare yourself for the battle…

BUKIT KEMUNING REPORT-09-08-2022

Cannon’s

Finally, we had the opportunity to play again Kemuning after so many months of trying to contact the club and the excuse was they had a problem with the cable line. Anyways we had a good morning with 3 flights of 3 players and we tee off on time on hole 1. Conditions were ok, playable with some sandy greens and some of them difficult to read the speed. We welcomed a new guest from the UK visiting Malaysia, Steve Laking (Thanks to Dave Evans) and he got a sleeve of balls to remember this special and memorable moment in time. The winner today was David Cheung with 88 for an amazing 42 points followed by our guest with 100 for 38 points and in third place was the consistent Helmut Dicknoeter with 93 for 36 points. After the game, we rushed to the nearby restaurant Gather Gather Kitchen where we had some cool beers and nice food. The next game will be at Impian.

Cheers

SERI SELANGOR REPORT-26-07-2022

Cannon’s

We teed off early at 7.30, at a well-kept course with very fast greens. On some of the greens, the pin position was very difficult to read. One of the greens was recently sanded and so fast that many of us found the ball after the put further away from the hole than it was before. Anyway, it was an enjoyable morning, finished off with good food and a couple of cold beers at the Beer Factory across the road.

The winner this time was Siggy with 35 points, and the voucher was for him. He was followed by David Cheung with 31 and Jan with 29 points. In the July monthly competition, Ricardo Castro is the champion with 77, followed in second by Chia with 69, and Jan ends up in third with 61. With these results, the standings for the year competition Ricardo Castro cemented his first position now with 104 points followed by the due Bipan Kapur and Iain Wise with 48 points respectively and in fourth place Helmut Dicknoether not too far with 40 points.

A special announcement was made for Ricardo, who played his game as a single handicapper, he received a special (soccer)ball for this fact.

Next week, a bit further away, in Amverton Cove.

KGSAAS REPORT-19-07-2022

Cannon’s

Today we played KGSAAS in a combination we haven’t done in a long time. We played the Presidents nine and the Alam Shah nine. Two different nines. Both the fairways were in very good condition. The greens of the President’s nine were very slow, very difficult to read, therefore. The second nine greens were much better and faster.

We were held up by rain for maybe 10 minutes or so, but because we could tee off much earlier than booked we finished before 12 and enjoyed lunch with some beers at the club.

Ricardo played an excellent game with 79 for 39 points, with the result that he will be a single handicapper next week! Well done.

Bent was second and Jan and David closed the ranks with 3rd and 4th place.

Next week we will play Seri Selangor

RAHMAN PUTRA REPORT-12-07-2022

Cannon’s

Today we had a great day at Rahman Putra. We played The Lakes course, where we could tee off a bit earlier than planned. The course may be challenging, but it is an excellent course to play. The maintenance of the course was perfect, the greens were a bit slow, because of the hollow tining last week. As everyone knows, there is enough water on the course, so plenty of opportunities to lose your golf balls and start with new ones.

At the end of the 18 holes, it appeared that only Ricardo holed out with the ball he started with. So he ended up in a first place with 35 points and won the voucher. Chia was second with 34 points, Jan third and Bent fourth.

We also celebrated Bent’s winner of the March competition, and we handed over the proof of being an official LC member, the bag tag, LC cap, and the sleeve of balls.

Next week we’ll play KGSAAS.

TASIK PUTERI REPORT-05-07-2022

Cannon’s

We teed off with two flights at Tasik Puteri. The course was in a reasonable condition with variable greens, which made it quite difficult to read. Anyway, the weather was very favorable to us, a bit of a breeze and the sun came only out at holes 10 – 11.

We played Puteri and Putera and celebrated the two “winners”, Bernhard and Ricardo. On count back, Bernhard was the lucky guy to get the voucher this week.

During lunch at the club, we celebrated three events: first of all, we welcomed Ted Parslow back, after more than two years of staying abroad, and avoided all the difficulties in Malaysia during the Covid time. Because he didn’t forget the LC’s, he received a sleeve of LC balls.
Then we welcomed W. L. Chia as a new Loose Cannons member. He played his fifth game today and received the bag tag, LC cap, and the sleeve of balls.

Lastly a milestone for Bernhard!! His 400th game today and he walked away with MST vouchers as an appreciation of this.

Thanks to his generous contribution we had a free lunch today!

Next week we’ll see each other at the challenging course of Rahman Putra.

Cheers

STAFFIELD REPORT-28-06-2022

Cannon’s

This week we teed off with three flights, although the last flight was not complete!! Staffield was a very wet course. No roll on the fairways and close to the greens a lot of areas were very soggy. You have to play really on the green because rolling up was not possible today. Also, a number of fairways were damaged by wild boars (I think). Yes, we have seen Staffield in a much better shape.

Anyway, the weather was favorable to us, not too much sun, which made the slow play because of the flight in front of us a bit bearable.

The lunch was enjoyed in the club and there we celebrated Josef Winter who won this week with 89 for 36 points followed by Ricardo Castro (lowest gross) and Hans Benn with 34 points, who shared second place.

With the last June’s game results, Mike Williams and Ricardo Castro finished on the top with the same points (74), but Mike got the silver with the highest score (42) at Bkt Unggul, so well deserved and well done Mike. With these results, the LCOTY standings saw Ricardo Castro increase his first position now with 84 points leaving Bipan Kapur and Iain Wise with a gap of 42 points, and Helmut Dicknoether kept his third place with 40 points. We reached now our half-year competition and still have a lot to fight for the last 6 months.

Next week we will play Tasik Puteri.

Cheers

Jan and Ricardo
