Results – Bukit Kemuning – 5th November 2019

The scenario indicated it may be a good day at Bkt Kemuning, registration was smooth,  it was not very busy and no threatening dark clouds in sight.
Last time we played this course just after the hazy period, the fairways were hard and the greens grass stiff like a wire brush, today softer fairways and greens.
This course takes heavy downpour well and it suits seniors as one can drive on the fairways and for the prize of 321Rm a flight it’s very good value for money.
And I think for the first time we had three German players with the addition of Gerd Janotta who used to head the Continental Tyre factory in PJ.
We had the post-game lunch at the usual New O&S Seafood Restaurant, no prawns this time so only 50Rm ahead extra with the remains from the fee.

Results – Ipoh Away – 29th-31st October 2019

Monthly medal it’s all done and dusted. This is about Royal Perak and Meru Valley 30-31 Oct, LC’s Ipoh Away. Players were the same as at Clearwater except for Aftab Ahmad who had returned home.
I almost missed the tee-off at Royal Perak as it took some time to get my car out of the hotel.
This course was a very different experience compared to the previous day as we had not much of soggy areas. Fairways were good but the greens were a bit slow though.
After the game we found out how one could get a beer or two with something to eat, just step in at the bar and they get your order delivered even though it took some time. In the evening we had a nice dinner at the hotel.
The last day was at Meru Valley we had a leader ball with two 31’s one 30 and one with 26 points. The middle flight 26 – 23 and the first flight two with 19 points.
We played Valley and Waterfalls nines, except for Valleys three first holes which we very soggy the course was not bad at all. The greens were very fast and good.
So how did it go:  Josef Winter had an excellent day with 39 points and adding that to his previous day points, he won  with 65 points.
Mike Smith came second with 61 and Martin Belderink 57 points. The remaining had from 56 down to 31 points which was myself.
Ricardo made a 200Rm contribution to the lunch/kitty as he will have his birthday next week when he is elsewhere.
I reckon the pictures attached will describe a nice bunch of golfers out on an adventure sort of.
I reckoned Clearwaters Lake nine and Meru Valley’s Waterfall nine were the nicest nines.
But one should stay away from the area during the wet season especially Clearwater.
I will take a couple of weeks off or so from playing golf as my back has not improved, one cannot go on with painkillers and muscle relaxing pills for too long.

Results – Clearwater Sanctuary, Ipoh – 29th October 2019

When we arrived at the club we were told that the kitchen was closed as they had been open yesterday Monday which is normally closed…. but they managed to fix some takeaway deliveries out on the course for us. However, after the game we discovered that the whole place was more or less closed.

The weather was nice and sunny and the scenery fantastic. The course was the toughest I think we have played for a long time, 6000 meters from white in the wet season. The rough should be avoided, fairways on the Lakes nine was the best. One player lost more balls than he had in the bag.

The October monthly trophy winner, Josef Winter with 29 points.

We had the evening dinner at Yum Yum restaurant, a walking distance from the hotel. Good Chinese food it was.

Results – Tasik Puteri – 22nd October 2019

IMG_4446A Monday evening of torrential rain in the area did not leave Tasik Puteri untouched. The fairways were soggy but playable. Surprisingly the greens were still in good shape. It was buggy on track however on both Puteri and Tasik 9. But for the lean and mean golfing machines that the Loose Cannons are that was of course not a problem at all.

Only a meager amount of members (11) attended the game. Check-in and take-off was swift and easy with the 1st flight being back way before noon.

Highlights of the day; 3 playing upon their handicap with Stan winning on countback; 90-36

Best gross for the master himself; Geoff 80 for 36 shared 2nd together with Eric shooting 100 for 36

And a lot of gross for some other players in the pack.

Only 6 went for lunch to the new Chin Hiong restaurant and had an excellent meal selected by Tony. The ever-reliable Brian “the beer tracker” kept an eye on the empty beer bottles and made sure we got to about 1,5 each.

Results – Bangi Golf Resort – 15th October 2019

Bangi Golf Resort has been going through some major renovations on the course and although the first phase of cutting back trees and bushes was much needed they have now gone too far and the course looks a major earthquake and hurricane have been through it. It is now very barren and devoid of the many trees it had lining the fairways so it is now very open. It is a shame that this is the case as it is still a nice little course with some interesting holes.

We teed’ off on the Putrajaya and Kajang nines at 8:00am and the course was very quiet so we made good time, well Flights 3 and 4 did, flights 1 and 2 arrived at lunch at Restoran East of Highway 1 hour after us so I have no idea what held them up.

Results

The winner this week was Stuart Taylor with an excellent score of 77 for 45 points. Runner up was Bernard Romahn with 80 for 42 and there was a tie for 3rd place between Aftab Ahmad and Eric van Donselaar, both on 41 points. Best gross of the day was Stuart’s 77. Full results below:

Results – Bukit Kemuning – 8th October 2019

imageWe ended up as four full flights after a pull-out and some late sign-ups.

My suggestion tee-off from blue was voted down in favor of white and looking at the scores it was the right one. Registration was nice and fluent as I penned down the date of birth on the form in advance.

The course was as usual with a mixture of mainly hard fairways, however, the greens grass were uneven and hard like a wire brush

Weather was nice when the high moisture was burned away. Perhaps due to the wind direction, the sky was full of very noisy landing airplanes which you could even hear having a shower

Eleven came for the lunch at Restaurant New O&C Seafood and with leftover after registration, we only emptied the wallet by 50Rm

Results

The winner Paul Collet 38 points, followed by Kevin Wiggins 37 and Jan van Driel 35.

  • Correction …. Peter Davis’ score should be 97 for 34 points

Results – Amverton Cove – 1st October 2019

It had been raining overnight so we were not allowed to drive on the fairways and hence it had not been time for raking of the bunkers, so they were a bit hard. We were also a bit unlucky as the greens surface had been machined to minor groves, a bit tricky for putting.Weather was nice and sunny especially later in the round when the sun had burned away the high humidity and we got a breeze.

Two third of the starters joined for the lunch, a nice airy place along the sea with good food and not too expensive. Iain Wise celebrated his birthday with a 200Rm contribution for the lunch, many thanks and Happy Birthday. Rein Le Tan celebrated his return to the Tuesday game by adding 200Rm to the kitty, many thanks and hope to see you more often.

Results

As one assume most of us had some difficulties with the course, despite of that we had two outstanding players;

– Siegmund Maierbrugger won with a better second nine, Ricardo Castro second, both with 38 points, Brian Stubbs third with 33.

  • Correction : Iain Wise’s score should have been 102 for 27 points

Results – Monthly Trophy – Staffield – 24th September 2019

Staffield CRB is a bit out from Kuala Lumpur but considering the layout and condition it’s worth the trouble.

A bit hazy at first but later in the game we had a breeze blowing the haze away so were actually playing under the blue sky.

Post game lunch at the club, some had to wait a while for the food but that’s how it can be if one order out of the ordinary.

September champion with 46 points, myself actually, that’s was my first monthly trophy win since I took over this task some years ago.

Results – Berjaya Hills – 17th September

It was a nice drive up the mountain side and it became as usual colder and colder, only 18 degrees at arrival.

The air was almost haze free at begin with.

It’s about a year ago since when we played Berjaya Hills, it was in really bad condition then. Yesterdays conditions were similar to how it was before it turned bad i.e. greens not too bad, fairway okay and bunkers hard and uneven if not raked and scenery outstanding. We could also hear the gibbons in the background having their morning conversation, very nice.

Post game lunch at Restaurant 126 down in the valley, food good and beers cold but air hazy like KL. Bernard attended and then we suspected he played well and yes he did, won with 38, Josef second 36, and Erol third with 33 points.
