Results – Templar Park – 24th November 2015

This was the November Trophy Game and we had 14 players teeing off at around 8:00am on a beautiful morning. The course was wet making the going even tougher than normal on this course. Greens were good but very tricky on a number of holes making putting in regulation difficult.

This course always seems to play long, and as Paul Geddes found out on the 15th hole it must be noted that distances on all the Par 4’s and Par 5’s are measured to the front of the green so you need to add on the depth of the green to the flag. As expected scores were high and Stableford points low.

After the game we had a lunch at the Tang Dynasty Restaurant. We waited a rather long time for the food and managed to consume about 22 bottles of beer over the course of the lunch making it a fairly expensive one. Thanks to Bernard for his RM50 winnings which went into the lunch pot.

Results

The winner today and the November Trophy winner with 31 points and a gross of 91 was Bernard Romahn, beating Geoff McLaws on count back who also scored 31 points and the best gross of the day of 85. Full results are below :

Results – KGSAAS – 17th November 2015

We had 14 Cannons at KGSAAS this morning ….. and one Cannon at Nilai Springs! Just as Allan was starting to register at 7:30am he received a call from Jeff Pearce wondering why no-one was at Nilai Springs …. guess he missed the 2 or 3 e-mails that we all received with the change of venue. He managed to catch up the last flight and join the game by the end of Hole No 3.
After quoting the usual Senior Rate on booking the club also informed Allan that the Senior rate was only applicable on Thursdays and Fridays making it a little bit more expensive.
The course was wet and soggy in many places and like me I’m sure many players had problems with lost, plugged balls in the fairway. I also experience a flight on another hole playing my ball leaving a poxy Titleist in my fairway by means of a fair swap!
The weather was good and actually cleared up by the back ( with beautiful clear blue skies which made a change after the many months of haze.Apart from the wet fairways in many places the greens were quite good and deceptively fast in places. The tee boxes were rather shoddy and in need of attention.

We had a clear winner this week with Mike Williams shooting a gross 79 with 43 points! Well done Mike. Runner up on cutback was Geoff McLaws with the best gross of the day of 77 and 39 points. Full results below:

Results – Bukit Kemuning – 10th November 2015

Sixteen players teed off under clear skies and perfect weather conditions, very different from the last time we played this venue when play was abandoned after 5 holes. The course was in poor condition with soggy fairways and uneven and bumpy greens. We all teed off from the first, play was not quick and all the players were back in to the clubhouse by 1-15pm. The scoring was not great, with the exception of today’s winner Peter Kenyon who shot 95 for 41 points, a Stewards Enquiry is still ongoing into this remarkable fete. Runner up and best gross of the day was Geoff McLaws with a score of 81 for 35 points. It was good to welcome guests Carl Wombwell  and Emlyn Jones, who was so overwhelmed that he turned up for play with his shirt inside out, a good sign proving that he already possesses the attributes of a good Loose Cannon.
Lunch was taken at O & S restaurant where fifteen of us squeezed around one table, very cosy. Many thanks to Barry for booking and ordering the excellent food.

Results – Impian Golf & Country Club – 27th October 2015

Conditions were good this morning for the October Monthly Trophy game at Impian Golf & Country Club. We had 18 players with Sigi taking up a last minute position when Ren Li cancelled. The course has been seen in better shape and again we played off the blue tees as the white tees seemed to have now disappeared from this course. Greens were good although some were a little bare in patches and inconsistent.

After the game we adjourned to the reliable Ken Well Seafood Restaurant for an excellent lunch and drinks kindly sponsored by Ted Parslow celebrating his 100th Cannons game. Thank you Ted!

Results

Scores were relatively low this week and the October Monthly Trophy winner with 37 points and a gross of 84 was Stuart Taylor. Runner up was Bernard Romahn with 36 points on count back from Paul Geddes also on 36 points. Best gross of the day was Andrew Chez with an 82. Full results below :

Results – Nilai Sparings Golf & Country Club – 20th October 2015

Fourteen players teed off at 8-00am at Nilai Springs, Bernhard being a late drop out because of the haze, the Germanic contingent was however reinforced by the presence of a Huns Berger (that was what the registration recorded him as).
We played the Island and Pines nines both being in very good condition, the scoring however did not reflect this.
Twelve people attended a very enjoyable lunch at Restoran East of Highway, where good F & B was troughed by all.
Results
The winner was Ted Parslow with  a score of 82 for 38 points beating the runner up Allan Wright on count back. The lowest gross was Geoff McLaws with a round of 80.

Results – Kinrara Golf Club – 13th October 2015

Fourteen players including three of the unwashed who were less vocal than the previous week teed off in slightly hazy conditions. The golf course was in reasonable condition and we teed off at 8-00am on the first nine. Several players complained about the shortness of the course playing from the white tee boxes, it is a shame that their scoring did not reflect this.
The winner on the day was Brian Stubbs with a gross of 89 for 44 points continuing his recent good run.  Runner up was myself with 42 points. Best Gross was Andrew Chez with a good score of 74 which included 5 birdies and eagle putts. Stuart is back later this week and several players are probably due a handicap haircut.
An enjoyable lunch attended by 8 players was taken at Restoran East of Highway.

Results – KGSAAS – 6th October 2015

Thirteen gentlemen and five unmentionables teed off in slightly hazy conditions. We teed off at 8-00am and played the Sultan and Presidents nines with a two tee box start. Both nines were in reasonable condition for this reliable track. The scoring however was not good.

The winner on the day was an unmentionable with a gross of 89 for 38 points. Runner up Allan Wright, well done Allan. Best Gross an unmentionable with a tally of 81. Following the rumour that the unmentionables would be paying for lunch and drinks, only 2 of them attended the lunch.
An enjoyable lunch was taken at the clubs Chinese restaurant spoilt only by the slightly dodgy fish, however the 11 attendees managed to consume 550Rm worth of beer.

3 flights today at Bangi under fairly good conditions with only a minor haze. Course was a little wet from all the heavy rain the previous day. Greens were in good condition and the 3 flights all got round in good time and back to the clubhouse by 12:30. We had lunch after the game at the excellent Restoran East of Highway.
Results
The winner today was Iain Wise (continuing his good form of late) with 40 points on countback from Brian Stubbs also on 40 points. Best gross was Stuart Taylor with 83. Full results below :

Report – Bukit Unggul – 15th September 2015

After a last minute drop out we started with the “17”. Thank goodness only very light haze. But after 5 holes the heavens opened, and as is becoming customary lately , we stopped for the rain…this time for only  about 30 minutes.  Once the storm went through conditions became pleasant. Unfortunately 2 players decided to stop at the rain break.
Several greens had been tined and sanded , which effected the putting. Scores generally were quite good.
An enjoyable somewhat liquid lunch was enjoyed by the 12 players who stayed. Thank you to Peter May who donated 3 jugs , as a parting donation, as he may well be away for a couple of months and Ray, 2 jugs, for passing the 350 games played mark.
Results
The winner ocb was Hans Berger with an excellent 86 for 41 points, beating Peter May 101 for 41 points. Well done. Full results attached.

Report – Bukit Kemuning Golf & Country Resort – 8th September 2015

Four flights convened at Bukit Kemuning this morning …. well almost four flights …. Robert Mulliss came rolling up at 8:10 as we were on the first tee with the first group already half way up the first …… some feeble excuse about his GPS taking him the wrong way via some back roads in Shah Alam.

We only got in about 5 holes when the rain came and eventually after waiting for 30 – 45 mins at the rest hit we abandoned play …. the first time in many a year.
