Results – Nilai Sparings Golf & Country Club – 20th October 2015

Fourteen players teed off at 8-00am at Nilai Springs, Bernhard being a late drop out because of the haze, the Germanic contingent was however reinforced by the presence of a Huns Berger (that was what the registration recorded him as).
We played the Island and Pines nines both being in very good condition, the scoring however did not reflect this.
Twelve people attended a very enjoyable lunch at Restoran East of Highway, where good F & B was troughed by all.
Results
The winner was Ted Parslow with  a score of 82 for 38 points beating the runner up Allan Wright on count back. The lowest gross was Geoff McLaws with a round of 80.

Results – Nilai Springs – 9th June 2015

Four flights finally made it onto the fairways at Nilai Springs GCR today, after a fairly seamless registration but that was where it stopped. There were literally 19 flights which were booked at the same 8.37am tee time. Our late start was further hampered by the late arrival of some of the 8am slots that the Starter allowed to retain their position in the order.
At 9.13am, our first flight got to the 1st tee. Once we were all away off two tee boxes, all four flights managed to finish around the same time albeit late. Lunch was taken at the club due to the late finish. Added to this, Barry Sage was unable to finish his round due to work commitments this afternoon.
Bernard Romahn is on a hot streak with his third win in three weeks, much to the chagrin of a previous convener. Congratulations Bernard on your 81 gross for 42 points and winner on the day. Second was Roger Surieux with 41 points and third was shared betwen Tony Morris and Mike Williams with 37 points apiece.
Lowest gross was Geoff Parslow with 80. Full results attached below.

Results – Nilai Springs – 13th January 2015

16 players gathered at Nilai Springs under a cloudless sky and played a course in remarkably dry and good condition in perfect weather with a fresh breeze blowing throughout the round. It’s not often that you come off a Malaysian golf course with a dry shirt! We were a little late teeing off and consequently a little late arriving at East (west) of the Highway for a splendid lunch washed down with plenty of the golden nectar. Thanks Iain for ordering and thanks Geoff for contributing your winnings to the pot.
The winner with a superb gross 74 & 42 points was Geoff McLaws who’s round included 4 bogies!!! Well played Geoff.

Report

There were 16 players today making a full 4 flights. Weather was excellent and we all got off on the Pines 9 at 8:00am prompt and made fairly good time round the course. The course was in good shape and some of the greens fairly fast with an evil slope on hole number 22 which caught out many of the players trying to putt downhill or across the slope. No excuse however for the 3 putts from 2ft I had on the first hole!
After the game most of us adjourned to Dengkil Seafood Restaurant and had some good food and beers.
Results
We had two players tied for 1st place with 41 points but the winner goes to Barry Sage on count back and with a gross of 88 – well done Barry! Second was therefore Siggy with 41 points and a gross of 85.

Report

A beautiful clear day, though hot and humid, as twenty Cannons let loose on the fairways of Nilai Springs. We got off smoothly on two tee-boxes playing the Island and Pines 9’s. Course condition was very good on the whole although many of the bunkers were full of water due to the heavy rain of yesterday.
The highlight of our group’s round was watching Paul Geddes emerge from behind a tree having taken a difficult shot on Hole 14 Island, with his back on the tree ….. then jumping around like a madman removing a horde of red ants from his neck, legs and arms. It got better …. one hole later as Paul walked on to the green to attempt a very make-able birdie putt he suddenly screamed and shot off the green, dropped his shorts behind the buggy and then removed one persistent red ant which had secured itself onto Paul’s valuables inside his underwear …. most amusing to watch (see photo below). He then came back to the green and understandably …. 3 putted for a bogie!
It was great to witness some good form from Richard Moss who posted an excellent score of 37 points today … the new hip is now starting to pay for itself. He and Paul Geddes both pitched in on the last Par 3 (Hole 26) on the Pines Course for birdie 2’s …. Richard picking up a 5 pointer!
Post game lunch was taken at the Dengkil Seafood Restaurant which was very good and most reasonable. A Big Thank You goes out to Andrew Robinson celebrating his 65th Birthday who kindly sponsored the drinks. A Birthday poster from the Cannons Buddies was presented to Andrew care of Mr Barry Cousins (see photo below) …. thank you Barry.

Some good scores today with 4 players playing below their handicap. At first I thought it was a count back for 3 players on 37 points but noted that indeed we had a clear winner with Kevin Wiggins playing an excellent round of 84 for 39 points – well done Kevin. Second place on 37 points and on count back from Richard Moss and Geoff McLaws (also on 37 points) was Mike Nairn with a gross of 101.
Please note that yet again we have players who are submitting cards with wrong additions and incorrect Stableford points which needed some double checking and adjustments by myself and others. It would be good if players could do a quick check on their scores to see if their Stableford scores are correct before submissions. This is really easy to do … just add your handicap to 72 and thats the score you should shoot for 36 points …. it’s real easy then to work out your actual Stableford points from there. Also I noted at least 2 players using incorrect handicaps on their cards which further confused the issue. Current handicaps of all players are on the flight listing so should be noted before the start of the game. Best gross of the day was Geoff McLaws with a 79. Full results below:

Next Game – Nilai Springs – 6th May 2014

Next week we will play at Nilai Springs and we have 5 flights tentatively booked at 8:00am from (hopefully) 2 tee boxes and 1 caddy per flight.
Costs will be RM130 per player and for TP book holders RM110.
Please confirm by e-mail if you plan to play and be at the club by 7:30am latest.
We shall probably eat at the club unless we have a consensus to eat closer back to KL (Restoran East of the Highway?) or if anyone has a good recommendation locally near the club – so please indicate what your preference would be.
