Results – Staffield Golf & Country Club – 4th January 2011

A small turnout this week of 10 golfers found Staffield in reasonable nick with much evidence of long overdue maintenance in progress. We played the Southern & Northern nines in ideal conditions with the firm fairways producing good run and the greens played true and quite fast, especially on the Southern 9. The only real complaint is the very soft (boggy) patches in front of and around several greens due to leaking water pipes. On an otherwise firm golf course a ball; even a golfer, can easily be plugged and even lost in these mini swamps.
Hans Berger was the winner (and the low gross) with 87 and 46 points and the runner up was Barry Cousins with 43 points. The most golf was played by myself as I continue to struggle to refind my game. The new eyes will, I hope, help.
5 golfers took M&M in Mantin and very good it was too, particularly the pork nuckle which was exceptional. Pity Tony couldn’t join us; he’s on a diet I understand! Bloody hell, just when I thought we were getting away from all these juices and other unmentionable beverages that members haaave started to consume in place of the amber nectar we have a stalwart abstaining all together in the name of vanity. For Barry, Mantin was a bridge too far. The other absentees no doubt had similar weak excuses. Guys, the apre golf M&M is an important element of Loose Cannons golf mornings.
This was Michael Hughes last game this visit. Bon voyage Mike.
Watch this space for details of next weeks venue which likely will be Tasik Puteri.

Results – Staffield – 8th June 2010

12 Cannons enjoyed a well presented Staffield on an overcast and pleasantly cool morning. The scoring was good across the field and the only thing to spoil the days enjoyment were a group of Koreans encountered on the second nine who were horibly slow and held us up for 5 holes before the marshal intervened. Nevertheless, the leading group were round in 3 hrs 35 mins.
The winner was Klaus Kretzschmar with 44 points; cut 8 strokes and the runner-up was Bernhard Romahn with 40 points; cut 1 stroke. The lowest gross was 88 by Joe Zorich who returns to the USA later this week and the most golf was played by Barry Cousins returning after his back problems. Bon voyage Joe and welcome back Barry.
M&M was taken at Mantin and excellent it was.

Results – Staffield – 11th May 2010

12 Loose Cannons players turned up at Staffield, some players a little later than others due to a silent alarm setting by Rien Li and a 130km detour trip via Putrajaya performed via by Bernhard!
Staffield course was in good condition and the first 9 holes played in a quick time, albeit the second nine was considerably slower due to a number of slow groups in front. Greens were excellent and reasonably fast, going by the number of puts I put past the hole, the number of 3 putts and, dare I say it, 4 putts I experienced!

Sigi was certainly the most snappy dresser of the day – maybe he was expecting foggy conditions!
Alan “Most Golf” Holgate
This was Sigi’s final drive of the day (note his head turned to the left) where he punted his ball one yard forward and 2 yards left into the pond

Results:

Winner of the day was Ray Funnel with a gross of 89 and 40 points (cut 4) with runner up Mike Smith with a gross of 93 and 38 points (cut 1). Most golf award went to Alan Holgate with a gross of 120 and 18 points.

After game Lunch was at our favourite Restoran Shengee in Mantin where 7 participants enjoyed a wonderful lunch and a few cleansing beers.

Results – Staffield Golf Resort – 9th March 2010

There were 9 players for this outing to Staffield Golf Resort with Mark Baker becoming the 9th player having thought he was “making up the numbers” after Ray Funnel backed out. The course was in pretty good condition with the greens running true.

Results were as follows:
Raymond Keys        103/27
Barry Cousins          103/31
Tony Morris             95/24
Mike Hughes           109/31
Hans Berger             88/39
Mark Baker              92/33
Stuart Taylor            91/32
Mike Smith              87/39
Klaus Kretzschmar  98/35

Hans Berger was the winner on count-back with Mike Smith as runner up.

It was great to see Mike Smith back in the fold – for the first few holes I was convinced he was missing the Middle East given the number of bunkers he landed in. He put in a great round although on one occasion landed in a very awkward behind-a-tree lie as you can see.

Post-game makan and minum was at a new restaurant (Restoran Shengee)in Mantin as our usual haunt was closed. After a few beers quote of the day came from Mike Smith after returning from his lucrative Middle East job …. “Money is No Object!” We may have to take him to task on this during subsequent outings.

Next Game – Staffield Golf Resort- 9th March 2010

Final players will be as follows:

Barry Cousins 25
Hans Berger 19
Klaus Kretzschmar 24
