Report

A rainy start to the New Year and our first game in the Year of the Snake!  And the Pro-Tem Convenors faithful assistant had not booked any flights…..?  And with another mini-competition of 7 flights there was some concern at the outset.  But we were all away in good time ahead of the rival comp and all round in good time in sublime weather after the drizzle lifted.

The winner was Tony Morris with gross 84 for 50 points!!!  R-up was Erol Akinci with gross 91 for 46 points.  Tony’s handicap is shaved 14 and Erol’s 1.  Ted Parslow had the lowest gross with 81 and Peter Davies and Barry Cousins shared the highest gross with 112 apiece.

Apres golf we adjourned to Restaurant Chin Hiong on the way back to the toll and had a very good lunch, albeit not appreciated by the entire throng as some of the dishes were far removed from meat and 2 veg.

And finally Tony Morris gets the prize for maximising the spelling errors in Allan McNicoll’s name  on his Top Premier golf book ….

CANNONS AT TASIK PUTERI – 27th Nov, 2012

It was another good turnout this week with 19 Cannons gracing Tasik Puteri. Compared with KGPA the week before, check-in was a breeze. The weather was good and we were all round without a hitch.

The winner with 90 gross and 40 points (plus 3 bonus points) was Tony Morris.  Runner-up with
93 gross and 39 points (plus 3 bonus points) was Andrew Robinson. Tony is cut 4 adn Andrew is cut 1. Tony had the lowest gross with his 90 and Allan McNicoll brought up the rear with a gross 120.

Despite their best efforts some players ended up in the sh*t!
Even the ‘green keeper’ wouldn’t touch that one!

Report

Cannons all.

Tasik Puteri was in very good condition overall, the only grumble being the bunkers which had been recently refilled with fresh sand that was so deep and soft as to make playing out of near impossible. Remedy; avoid the bunkers I suppose! With surprisingly few other golfers at the course we were off on time after a short dispute between the starter and the supervisor over which of the nines were in play, but once that was sorted out the round proceeded at good pace (for most) on the Puteri & Putera 9’s.

The weather too was good with a strong breeze picking up towards the end of the round.

The winner  was Bernhard Romahn with 44 points and the runner-up was Barry Cousins with 43 points.
The lowest gross was 80 by John Laidley and the most golf was played by Alan Holgate with 119.
Bernhard is cut 8 strokes and Barry 1 stroke.

With the demise of the Equatorial we mustered at the Chin Hiong Restoran half way back to the toll where the food was so-so but the price reasonable. But this was not a patch on the Equatorial.

The usual chaos at the start to get 20 odd Loose Cannons into buggies and away.
Our group’s starting hole was the 10th hole – a misty start.
Tony tees off and sets his usual blistering pace around the course – we never saw the group behind us the whole round.
Now just check out the bend in Alan Holgate’s club as he swings through demonstrating the monstrous power he is applying to the club …. now if only that power could be transferred to the ball.
Aftab chips onto the green on the short over-the-water par 3 14th hole.
A serene view over the lake …… after we waited for the ripples to die down after Alan’s ball went in.
Alan again showing his driving prowess.
Tasik Puteri is a beautiful course and fairly well maintained.
Alan Holgate has his “energy bar” break after abandoning his play on this hole.
The tough 18th hole …. it’s uphill all the way.
Aftab follows the caddy’s lead in combatting the strong morning sun.
Tony in action on the dance floor.
Our helpful and always smiling caddy … Dini.
Tony hits on on a short par 3 3rd hole.
 Alan Holgate in jovial form.

A panoramic view of the long par 5 4th hole.

Tony Morris also demonstrating his power at club bending.
Aftab hits one off the tee in a steady and consistent manner.
You can just see Alan’s ball heading off straight down the middle.
Tony ponders his putt – the clubhouse drawing closer in the background.
A fine band of Loose Cannonites – Tony Morris, Alan Holgate, Aftab Ahmad and Stuart Taylor.

Finally we reach the 8th hole which was our 17th hole … one to go then it’s a much needed refreshment and lunch.
Tony impersonating an Australian cattle rustler.
Alan Holgate impersonating an F1 Honda Team driver.
The final hole – Alan hits his second to the green … or rather short of the green.
The new restaurant “Chin Hiong” was successful although not quite as good as our previous haunt the “Equatorial Restaurant”

After numerous amber refreshments and a belly full of food, spirits were good.
Barry is in great need of a wardrobe consultant

Results – Tasik Puteri Golf & Country Club – 17th April 2012

Cannons all,

Tasik Puteri was in excellent condition or should I say the course was in excellent condition; the management less so. With 2 flights sent to the Tasik 9 which was advertised as OPEN and so confirmed by the lady Starter, we were informed on the first tee by a Bangla grass cutter that it was closed and this was later confirmed by the giggling Starter, but with one flight already approaching the first green the damage had already been done. By the time we back tracked to the Puteri 9 several other flights were already waiting and we were delayed, eventually starting on the 6th.

With very nice weather and good playing conditions the 15 LC’s that turned up enjoyed a relatively low scoring round.
The winner was Andrew Robinson with 43 points and the runner up was Tony Morris with 40 points. The lowest gross was 85 by Geoff McLaws and the most golf was played jointly by Ray Funnell and Barry Cousins who both shot 109. Andrew is cut 7 strokes and Tony 1 stroke.
The full results can be found in the attachment.

Apres golf M&M was taken at the Equatorial where the food was at it’s usual high standard but only enjoyed by 10 LC’s.

Results for Tasik Puteri – Tuesday 6th March 2011

After so much wet weather in KL these past two weeks it came as a nice surprise to find Tasik Puteri to be very dry with firm fairways giving plenty of run and greens in good condition. The game was played in bright sun for the most part and it was quite hot but with a cooling breeze later in the round.

Dry as a bone!
The winner with an outstanding 44 points was Ted Parslow and the runner-up with 41 points was David Hughes. The low gross was Ted’s 78 and the most golf was played by Alan Holgate with 121. Ted is cut 8 strokes and David 1 stroke.

Ted (this weeks winner) sitting beside Vincent (last weeks winner)!
That cost a 1 stroke penalty! I can see the ball but can you see the moustache?

Condolences go to Andre Holm who suffered a groin injury with his first drive of the morning and had to retire.
Only 10 of the 18 player found their way to the Equatorial for an excellent lunch.
The NORTHERN TOUR March 27, 28, 29.

Kuala lumpur Loose Cannons have a blog. This should not be news to you. Our BLOG has been in existence for the last 2 years but is rarely visited by Loose Cannons. Originated by Stuart Taylor and supported by Raymond Keys, these members put a lot of effort into maintaining the site. Each week this report is up-loaded together with pictures (which you don’t often get with the report) and the blog has a complete archive of all of our games played since launch.
