Next Game – Seri Selangor – 19th July 2011

Next Tuesday we will play Seri Selangor.  BE THERE BY 7.00 am SO THAT WE CAN BE FIRST IN THE QUEUE AND THE FIRST FLIGHT OFF at 7.30 am.
Post golf sustenance will NOT be taken at the club, which regrettably has just lost its coverted Michelin star.  So by way of a change we will deport ourselves to Sids in TTDI for steak pies, fish and chips and other quintessential english fayre….
Please let Andrew Robinson know asap if you will join – and this is a TP COURSE so bring your book if you still have coupons left.

Results – Templar Park Golf & Country Club – 12th July 2011

As we all know, Templer Park is a difficult track and the 16 golfers (I use the term Golfer in it’s broadest sense) who ……I was going to say ‘graced’ but that would be a gross misrepresentation of the facts…..let’s say ‘took part’, proved again how relatively easy most of the courses we play are. Only 5 of us broke 100 and only one of us played to his handicap. Well done that man. Barry for example managed to “blob” 13 holes; 9 on the trot! That must be a record of sorts.

Templer was in poor condition; a sad reflection on the magnificent golf course that it once was. They are trying to rejuvenate the place but it’s a loosing battle I’m afraid. What a pity given the outstanding piece of real estate it occupies and the stunning back drop and only 30 mins drive from down town KL. Clearly the club facilities are underused and underfunded and one wonders how long this place will survive. Nevertheless, we will be back if only to bring ourselves back to reality….golf wise!

The winner was Glen Wombwell with 37 points and the runner-up Paul Hobbs making a rare appearance and coming in with 32 points OCB. Glen is cut 4 strokes and Paul 1 stroke. The lowest gross was 86 by Geoff Parslow and the most golf was played by Barry Cousins with 124.

Mike Smith will be away for the next 4 games so Andrew Robinson will be “deputy dog” (thank you Andrew) and will advise you of next weeks venue.

Results – Bukit Kemuning Golf & Country Club – 5th July 2011

Cannons all.
Bkt Kemuning was very dry with brick hard fairways which were rather worn in places but the greens were good and with little early traffic we were all round in good time.
We had planned at the morning gathering to take M&M at a nearby Chinese but fate intervened. Mike Smith had a hole-in-one at the 176m 2nd using a 7 wood and with money to be spent we decided to stay at the club for lunch…….and lousy it was. But what to do lah? Why can’t golf clubs in Malaysia provide reasonably good grub?
With the dry conditions and the resultant long run, low scores were anticipated and so it turned out. The winner was Mike Smith with 46 points and the runner-up OCB was Glen with 39 points. I’m cut 10 strokes and Glen just the one. The lowest gross was 85 by Andrew Robinson and the most golf was shared between Glen and Ray with 98’s.
The formalities took a while but the resultant RM2000 had to be spent so several tables had free M&M (most without a word of thanks) and the staff went home happy as well. The “pot” for the day; RM254, went to the float which now stands at RM643. We will have to find a way of spending some of it!

Results – Tasik Puteri – 28th June 2011

Cannons all.
9 LC’s contested the Trophy Game at Tasik Puteri on a fine breezy morning. We played the original 18 which was generally in good condition but with bumpy greens; unusual for TP. With few delays we were all round in well under 4 hours.
The winner was Bernhard Romahn with 41 points from runner-up Ray Funnell with 40 points. Bernhard is cut 4 and Ray 1. The best gross was 88 by Siegi and the most golf was played by Barry.
M&M was at the Equatorial. I think they have changed their cook! OK but not the great grub it was once famous for but still great value for money.

Results – Bukit Unggul – 21st June 2011

Cannons all
BU was in OK condition Tuesday; a couple of greens having recently been hollow tined and heavily sanded, but this will happen on an 18 hole layout where you can’t rest a nine. The weather was fine and the course very dry with lots of run on the fairways and some very impressive scores were anticipated on this relatively easy track but……………
11 had signed up by pm Monday but this dwindled to 9 by Tuesday morning but as we have some members here and several HSBC card holders who enjoy free green fees it’s not an expensive venue. But I wonder how much longer this place can survive? A great pity really as with some TLC under proper imaginative management it could be a very nice venue.
Andrew Robinson was the winner with a low gross of 86 and 39 points with Klaus Kretzschmar runner-up with 35 points. Most golf was played by Vincent with 116.
This was Andrew’s 255th game with LC and his 30th win with a win ratio of 8.5 moving him into the top place for wins. Well done Andrew. You are cut 4 strokes and Klaus 1 stroke.
Bukit Unggul was dry and running fast ….. unlike the players!

George still letting rip

Doesn’t look like Mike has a club in his hand … perhaps it is moving too quickly!!

Mike Smith waits patiently as George puts out
After fighting off a major monkey attack play continues
Note : Badly replaced flag from the group in front of ours ….. on more than a few holes!!

Results – Nilai Springs – 14th June 2011

Cannons all.
Another small turnout this week with only 7 LC’s at Nilai Springs which was a pity since the course was in excellent order with firm, fast greens. Despite a rare weather interruption of some 40 mins. we were all round in good time.
Ray Funnell was the winner with 41 points, cut 5, and Mike Smith was r/u with 40 points, cut 1. The lowest gross was 87 from Simon Compton and the most golf was played by Richard Moss.
A welcome was extended to a new Cannon; Jeff Pearce.
