BKT UNGGUL REPORT-11-06-2024

Cannon’s,

It was nice to play Unggul again, with a blue sky and sunny weather. The fairways were in good condition but all the greens were sandy but still ok to put. Three flights started on the 10th and the first nine it was done in less than two hours. All went wrong with an “intelligent” decision from the Starter who decided to put two Jumbo flights in front of us when they should started their first nin on hole 10 as well. Hence, on the back nine, we had to wait for every single shot for these guys to clear the tee box, fairways, and greens, and in some holes especially on par 3 all our three flights were waiting. Definitely wrong management from them, but on the other hand it seems now we are facing more and more jumbo flights than before. Any way is always nice to play at Bkt Unggul and enjoy the place, company, and the moment with some cool beers during the game. Martin Middleton played his 5th game and we presented him with nice gifts (a Flask, an LC sleeve of balls & ball chip markers). Javed Malik played his 4th game with us and we all hope to see him again very soon. Iain and Markus DNF due to arm pain, maybe too much……… the night before. A few complaints about my decision to play from the blue tee when we have been playing from the blues many times before (maybe you guys need to read more of our blog) and you can have a lot of information to update your doubts and lack of information about our society. The winner today was again our Viking with another good round scoring 111 for 41 points, followed by Jan (improving with his new club’s set) with 97 for 37 points, and in third place was Dave playing his hdc with 104 for 36 points. So, two more games to go this month, and all open for the monthly winner.

SERI SELANGOR REPORT-04-06-2024

Cannon’s,

After the weighty rain and thunderstorms the night before we were anxious to see what the course would look like, and, to our pleasant surprise the course was in a good condition. Yes, some wet patches in the fairways, but not too much, and the greens were speedy and in excellent shape. Seri Selangor is preparing itself for a tournament so we took advantage of that.

It was not an easy course, as the scoring showed, but a nice layout and interesting course. The first nine went at lightning speed, and we were already afraid we would be too early at our lunch restaurant. But we got some very slow players at the second nine, which brought us down to normal speed again.

The lunch was at The Beer Factory, where we really enjoyed a lot of beers and some good food. Thanks to generous donations from our two birthday boys, Dave and Martin, we avoided an almost three-figure charge! Dave Evans, and Martin Belderink, congratulations, and many thanks!

As said the scores were not very high: Ricardo had the lowest gross score with 84 and with that, he shared third place with Markus at 30 points. The battle for first and second was between two Dutchies, Frans and Jan, where Frans won it on count back on the last three holes, both with 33 points. Frans, as one Dutchman to another: gefeliciteerd!
As this was the first game in June, the May champion is known, and also where we had a tight race. Jan won from Bent, with the same points, but Jan had one round of 40 points, higher than Bent’s.

Guys, all in all, a great way to spend the morning, next week we will see each other at Bukit Unggul.

KGSAAS REPORT-28-05-2024

Cannon’s,

It was a very humid start this morning. No sun, and the amount of moisture in the air was probably about 100 %. The second nine the sun came out, making it even heavier to play. Erol and Hans decided during the second nine that it was enough and didn’t finish the course. The course was in good condition, we played Alam Shah and Sultan, but the greens were unpredictable and slow. The buggies had to remain on track, so it was a long walk.

We had a delightful lunch at the club, welcoming Jim for his second game and Martin Middleton for his fourth game. Erol decided that he had to celebrate his birthday (two months ago!!), and donated a very generous 400 RM for the lunch.

Today’s scores were reasonable with Bernard and Iain for 31 points, Martin with 34 points, Bent with 37 points, and Jan with his new set of clubs an excellent 40 points. That handicap will have to come down!

With these results, in the May competition, Jan took first place with 75 points beating Bent with the same 75 points, because on the first criterion, Jan’s two best scores, he had the highest score (40 points) so he got the prize, and Ricardo finished in third place with 73 points. For the LCOTY annual competition, Ricardo cemented his first position with 62 points, followed by Bernhard with 54, and in third place is Josef with 50 points.

Next week we will see each other at Seri Selangor

Cheers

Jan/Ricardo

BKT BERUNTUNG REPORT-21-05-2024

Cannon’s

Our third game of the month was held at Bkt Beruntung, with hot weather, good course conditions, and nice greens. It is not an easy course to play, with very difficult tee shots with tide fairways and some challenging approach shots to small greens. Three flights started before 8:00 am after a smooth registration, on the West nine crossing over to the East nine with a good pace and we all finished around noon time. David Pearce played his fifth game making him now a full-LC member and he was contemplated with a nice gift. Also for the first time with us, we welcomed Jim Stevenson from Scotland and he also had a welcome gift, a nice LC sleeve of balls. Celebrating his birthday (7th of May) Siggy contributed 250.00 Rm to cover part of the lunch bill and he got a nice birthday gift from us (an Adidas cap and one LC sleeve of balls), but unfortunately, he couldn’t be at the lunch with us. we all wish, you had a great birthday party, and thank you again for your generosity. Frans Bakker just back from the US and he was showing off his skills after two rounds at Pebble Beach, what a player!!. The winner today was Ricardo Castro with an excellent 76 for 38 points, beating Bent Serritslev OCB (19 points against 17), and in third place was Bernhard Romahn with a nice 86 for 35 points. With these results on the monthly competition standings, Ricardo Castro is now leading the pack with 73 points, followed very closely by Bent Serritslev with 72 points, and in third place Jan with a nice number (69), so a lot to fight for the silver at KGSAAS next week.

AMVERTON REPORT-14-05-2024

Cannon’s

Amverton was the course to play our second game with good course conditions, but on the first nine slow greens and quite humid weather and overcast. Three flights started before 8:00 am and it was a fast round as the course was quite empty. Today’s winner was for the second time this year our Viking Hans Berger beating OCB Jan van Driel booth with 35 points, and in third place another Viking Bent Serritslev with a nice 101 for 34 points. Martin Middleton played his third game and David Pearce’s fourth game. We can see Hans progressing to his old form and we all are pleased to see that happening, well done Hans. Lunch at the usual seafood restaurant just after the bridge but this time the food was not as nice as before with some of the dishes having no taste. Next week we are going North to Beruntung.

NILAI SPRINGS REPORT-07-05-2024

Cannon’s,

The first game of May was held at Nilai Springs, playing the Island and Pines Nines. The weather was quite humid and hot with some of the fairways soft and speedy greens. The winner was Ricardo Castro with 79 for 35 points, second with the same 34 points were WL Chia and Jan van Driel followed by our guest, playing his second game with us with a reasonable score of 101 for 33 points. We all finished before 4 hours and ten of us rushed to the restaurant in Nilai for a nice meal and cool beers. Josef Winter got his prize for the April winner. Next week we will play Amverton.

STAFFIELD REPORT-30-04-2024

Cannon’s

The last game of April was held at Staffield with a blue sky but very humid and hot. Three flights started on Western Nine and crossed over to Southern Nine. Course conditions were perfect with dry fairways and nice greens. The winner today was Josef Winter with a magnificent score of 81 for 46 points (his best-ever score), second place was our guest Martin Middleton with a nice 94 for 40 points, and in third place was our birthday boy Hans Berger with 115 for 38 points followed by Jan van Driel and Ted Parslow booth with 37 points. As I mentioned Martin Middleton played his first game with us, and I hope he enjoyed the game and our social entertainment. Today we celebrated Hans Berger and Ted Parslow’s birthday and they sponsored the full bill for our lunch with a big thank you from everyone, and we all looking forward to celebrating again next year and wishing a long life for both of them. Roland Steiner also got his late birthday gift. With today’s results, Josef Winter (second month in a row) is the April champion with a massive 82 points, followed by Jan van Driel with 77, and in third place Ricardo Castro with 74 points. For the LCOTY standings, Ricardo Castro still leading the pack now with 52 points, second place Bernhard Romahn with 46, and in third place is Josef Winter with 44 points. April is close, it was a very competitive month decided only on the last game, well done for our monthly winner and thank you all for your participation and support.

TASIK PUTERI REPORT-23-04-2024

Cannon’s,

Two flights started on time on Putera Nine and crossed over to Tasik Nine. The weather was overcast but very humid, and the last two hours were sunny and very hot, feeling like a sauna. Course conditions were ok but Tasik Nine was much more soggy. Nice greens but very fast, costing many extra strokes. Collin Lee played his 3rd game with us and in two more games, he will be a full member. The winner today was Ricardo Castro with a nice 77 for 38 points, followed by Roland Steiner and Jan van Driel booth with 35 points, and in third place was Helmut Dicknoether with 98 for 30 points. With these results and one more game to play this month, Jan van Driel is now leading with 75 points, followed closely by David Cheung and Ricardo Castro booth with 72 points, and in third place two more players Fritz Katzengruber and Josef Winter booth with 70 points, so all open for the last game of the month. We had lunch at the terrace with some ordering problems and quite a slow serving of drinks and food, but we all enjoyed the cool beverages and also the contribution of 300.00 Rm from Roland Steiner for his late birthday, and he will have his birthday gift next week.

Cheers

KINRARA REPORT-16-04-2024

Cannon’s

It was the perfect time to play Kinrara before the rainy season started. Nice layout, difficult tee box shots, playable fairways, and nice renovated greens even slow, costing many strokes to everyone. Three flights started before 8:00 am on hole one and we all finished around noon time. Of the 12 players, six (David, Mike, Fritz, Markus, Bent & Jan) never played Kinrara and I believe they all had a good experience. The winner today was Bernhard Romahn with 83 for 37 points, followed by Iain and David, booth with 36 points, and Ricardo and Josef finished in fourth with 36 points. With these results the monthly competition sees David Cheung in first place with 72 points, followed closely by Josef and Fritz booth with 70 points, and in third place Bernhard with 69 points, so all are open for the last two games.

BANGI REPORT-09-04-2024

CANNON’S

For this week, we were supposed to play Kinrara, but two days before the game, the management decided to close the club for two days (9 & 10), so with just so short notice, I managed to book four flights to Bangi saving the week. Since this time is a week of celebration, we all want to say Happy Hari Raya to all Muslims, may happiness, harmony, health, and love be present in all your families and closest friends. We played Kajang and Bangi courses and the conditions were nice, most dry fairways, but in some areas, we already noticed some soggy parts, so it was the right time to play Bangi. The greens were nice but very slow, costing many puts to everyone. The winner today was Jan van Driel and he shot a magnificent 95 for 40 points, apparently, his new set of clubs, driver and fairway woods seems working well, second place was David Cheung, Josef Winter, and Bent Serritslev all with 36 points, followed with Hans Berger with 118 for 33 points (the biking attacked again). This is just a reminder, that all the scorecards with proper scoring (groos and stf) must be delivered to me at the restaurant, and if you don’t want to go for lunch pass the card to someone or take a clear picture and send to me, otherwise, you will be disqualified for the game with DNF. This is not a new rule it’s been like this for a long time, so you should know, especially for the guys with more than 10 years as an LC member, so this week this situation happened to Bernhard and Siggy. Ricardo Castro contributed to the bill with 100.00 Rm celebrating his Eagle on Par 5 hole # 5 Kajang course, and Markus Nijmeijer celebrating in advance with us his Birthday with a nice contribution of 300.00 Rm. Thank you to David Cheung for ordering the food and helping me with the billing process. Steve Lakin played his 3rd game and Collin Lee his 2nd game with us, and we all hope to see them again very soon. Lunch was at East of Highway restaurant with a good crowd (14) and we had good food, cool beers, and a great celebration and this is the LC spirit. See you again next week at Kinrara and hope they are in full operation.

Cheers

Ricardo Castro
