Results – Berjaya Hills – 12th August 2014

Report
It was a lovely morning with cool air at the top of Bukit Tinggi when 10 of the Loose Cannons tee’d off at 8:00am – a pleasant change from the high humidity of the lower altitudes of the Klang Valley. The course was a little patchy with a fair bit of wart hog action on the fairways and in particular the greens were bad having been recently sanded leaving it a rather random process to proceed the ball towards the hole. The course however was relatively quiet with only a few other players who decided to move ahead of us to the 10th rather than sticking behind us as we started on hole 1.
After the game we drove back down the hill to Kampung Bukit Tinggi for a great (and cheap) lunch at Restaurant 126 – well ordered Tony!
Results
The winner again this week was Barry Sage with a great score of 88 and 40 points (24 points on the back 9!) – this is now a back to back win for barry who has obviously found his form. We will be seeing his handicap dropping accordingly! Second was Stuart Taylor with the best gross of the day (84) and 37 points.

Results – Nilai Springs – 5th August 2014

Report

There were 16 players today making a full 4 flights. Weather was excellent and we all got off on the Pines 9 at 8:00am prompt and made fairly good time round the course. The course was in good shape and some of the greens fairly fast with an evil slope on hole number 22 which caught out many of the players trying to putt downhill or across the slope. No excuse however for the 3 putts from 2ft I had on the first hole!
After the game most of us adjourned to Dengkil Seafood Restaurant and had some good food and beers.
Results
We had two players tied for 1st place with 41 points but the winner goes to Barry Sage on count back and with a gross of 88 – well done Barry! Second was therefore Siggy with 41 points and a gross of 85.

Results – KGPA – 30th July 2014

Report

Because of the Hari Raya Public Holidays on Mon/Tues 28th/29th July we had to have our weekly game on Wednesday 30th July. This was the trophy game and was held at KGPA.
Although the recent severe haze conditions threatened play, overnight rainfall cleared things up making it a pleasant although humid day. We had 17 players and after the usual inefficient and stressful checkin we all got off on two tee boxes on time. Unfortunately due to the lack of caddies (which were compulsory and part of the package) our last flight were without caddies – apologies for this. We did however not pay for this.
Most of us were finished in about 4 hours although the groups who teed off on the 1st nine were held up by some slow groups ahead. Course conditions were good – the course is being very well maintained at the moment following the fairly recent upgrade. This course is a tough and challenging course and being cow grass always plays long so we did not expect great scores.
After the game we had a pleasant lunch at the Selangor Club Sports Annexe – many thanks to Tony Morris and Andrew Robinson for facilitating our entry.
Results
We did have 3 players breaking their handicap today and the July Trophy winner with an excellent gross 83 and 42 points was Mike Williams – congratulations Mike. Second with 86 and 40 points was Tony Morris (now fully recovered from his recent dengue fever episode). Best gross of the day was Geoff Parslow with a 79 …. and 2 eagles! Full results tabulated below.

Next Game – KGPA – Wed 30th July 2014

Next week’s game will have to be played on Wednesday 30th July as Mon/Tue are Public Holidays (Hari Rays) – so we will play on 30th July at KGPA with a starting tee time of 8:30am. This is the monthly Trophy Game for July.
Cost will be RM150 per pax based on special weekday package inclusive of green fees/buggy/insurance and caddy (1 per buggy, compulsory). This rate is very close to that of the TP book so to avoid the usual confusion at registration let’s all stick to this weekday special rate. There will be some carry over with this fee which will go towards lunch.
IMPORTANT – all players will have to show proof of residence for this rate so please bring passport/resident visa/MM2H card/PR card/driving license/business card to show residence status.
Please be at the club EARLY by 8:00am latest as we all know registration at this club can be “tedious”! Many thanks.

Results – Sungai Long Golf & Country Club – 22nd July 2014

Report
Most of us haven’t played Sungai Long for a long time so it was a welcome return to this wonderful course enjoying the special Ramadan green fee rates. The course is in wonderful condition and has even improved from what it was before with upgraded cart paths and flower beds. The greens were really wonderful and the sand in the bunkers soft and very playable.
We had 15 players this morning and after a small confusion over the start time – due to my miscommunication in a second e-mail I sent out (apologies for that) we all got off at around 8:20am. It was rather slow due to some slow playing members in front of our first flight.
After the game most of us re-convened at the Ken Well Seafood Restaurant closeby for lunch and some refreshments.
Results

The winner today was Andrew Chez who played an excellent round of gross 75 for 42 points (also was the best gross of the day) with Mike Williams second with 35 points. Full results are below:

Results – KLGCC (East Course) – 14th July 2014

Report
15 Loose Cannons graced the fine fairways of KLGCC East Course this morning under great conditions. We all teed off on the back 9 starting on the tricky hole no 10 where our group managed to very successfully find the water at the back of the green.
Course conditions as expected were very good although the greens were running a bit slow – apparently they are letting the grass grow in preparation for an upcoming competition. However they ran extremely true and with the excellent caddies (certainly in our group) this helped enormously with the putting.
We all finished by 12:30 ish and many of us then departed for SID’s pub in Damansara Heights for some lunch and refreshments.
Results
The winner today with a gross of 84 and 38 Stableford points was Stuart Taylor. Second was Jeff Pearce with 36 points (gross of 92). Best gross of the day was Sean Niven with 81.
Full scores detailed below:
There was a special prize today from Stuart Taylor who was celebrating his 100th game with the Loose Cannons – and unknown to all this was to be given to the player who scored closest to 100 gross. The winner was Ray Funnell who scored EXACTLY 100 – well done Ray.
The funny thing about this prize though was when it was brought out for presentation at SID’s pub for the announcement it was duly noted by our Founding Father (and ex-bar owner!) Mr Mike Smith that the bottle of whisky as presented was not in a virgin state and had in fact been opened. I had grabbed this bottle in the dark this morning from my whisky cabinet thinking it was a full and un-opened bottle … but this was not the case as it transpired. It had been cracked although looked full – only a tiny amount out of the bottle. Obviously embarrassed about this I dully offered the bottle to all attending LC’s and we all duly polished this off with our lunch … thank you very much. Ray Funnel WILL be presented with a new, fresh and virgin bottle of whisky at the next outing. Cheers Ray!!’
