KGSAAS REPORT-21-01-2025

Cannon’s,

Three full flights started on Alam Nine, with very soggy fairways and difficult greens, crossing over to the President Nine, with much better fairways but very slow greens, costing everyone many strokes. The weather was very humid and hot. Lim Hong played his third game leaving only two more games to reach paradise. Today’s winner was Jan van Driel with 36 points, the second was Martin Middleton with 35 and Ricardo closed the podium with 34 points. With these results, in the January competition standings, Iain Wise, Ricardo Castro, and Jan van Driel all with 72 points, but Iain has some advantage because for now, he scored the highest number of the two best 2 games. After over a year, Bipan Kapur finally joined us and we were happy to see him again. Next week I will be out of town, Jan will organize the game at Bkt Unggul. Happy Chinese New Year to everyone and see you guys in two weeks.

Cheers

TASIK PUTERI REPORT-14-01-2025

Cannon’s,

Back to Tasik Puteri for the second game of the year. With a much better organization from the counter to the starter, the game speed improved a lot, as now finally they starting following the tee times with a gap of 8 minuts between the flights. The weather was hot and dry, with a good fairways and greens condition. The winner today was Iain Wise with an excellent 88 for 42 points, followed by Ricardo Castro with 38 points, and in third place Jan playing his hdc with 36 points. Ricardo Castro is leading the monthly competition with 71 points, second Martin Middleton and Jan van Driel with 67 followed by Bernhard Romahn with 66, so a lot to fight on the last 2 games. Thank you to Tony Morris for his 200.00 rm contribution to the lunch and we had a nice birthday celebration. Next week, lets try KGSAAS.

BANGI REPORT-07-01-2025

Cannon’s,

The first game of the year was held at Bangi, with almost four full flights. We all started on the Kajang nine and crossed to the Putrajaya nine. The weather was wet in the beginning with drizzling rain and cool temperatures, but the sun finally came out in the last hour and became quite hot. The course was reasonably good with some parts of the fairways soggy, especially on the back nine. After one year of renovation, they reopened the Putrajaya Nine, but the massive number of three cute off the course looked naked and lost all character. Helmut was the first winner of 2025 playing Bangi for the first time with a nice 37 points, second was Frans Bakker with 36, and in third place four players all with 33 points, Ricardo Castro, Josef Winter, Reinli Tan, and David Evans. After the game 10 of us rushed to East of Highway restaurant for lunch and to celebrate Josef’s birthday (better late than never), who contributed generously with 400.00 Rm to the bill. Happy New Year and see you all next Tuesday at Tasik Puteri.

Cannon’s,

The last game of 2024, was held at Bkt Kemuning, with four flights starting on time on hole one. The weather was nice, sunny, blue sky but we couldn’t finish the last 3 holes due to the bad weather. SERI SELANGOR REPORT-24/12/2024

Cannon’s,

The Christmas game was held at Seri Selangor with nice weather, good course conditions, and good greens, except the one on hole # 2 was very sandy. We welcomed two new potential members, Lim Hong, and Kevin Tucker on their first game with us. All three flights started before our tee time on hole #1 after our traditional Christmas picture. The winner today, was again Martin Middleton with a regular 93 for 33 points, the second was our guest Lim Hong also with 33 points, but as a guest, he couldn’t win the first prize, and in third place was Ian Wise with 30 points. With these results, Martin Middleton still led the monthly competition with a solid 78 points, followed by fRans Bakker with 69 and Tony Morris with 68. Ten of us had lunch at Beer Factory, with Jan contributing 200.00 rm to the bill celebrating his anniversary. Ricardo presented the results with the respective prizes including a special Christmas gift for the attendees (a Christmas sleeve of balls) and a welcome gift for the two guests.

STAFFIELD REPORT-17-12-2024

Cannon’s,

The third game of December was held at Staffield, and what an opportunity to celebrate Bernhard Romahn’s milestone of reaching 500 games with Loose Cannons. The weather was hot and humid, but the course was in good condition, as always, with nice greens. We played the Southern and Northern nines, and the winner was Martin Middleton with a robust score of 87 for 40 points, followed by Reinli Tan and WL Chia booth with a nice 37 points, and in third place, Ricardo Castro (lowest gross) and Jan van Driel with 36 points. With these results, in the December monthly competition, Martin Middleton is cemented in first position with 78 points, second Frans Bakker with a nice 69, and third Ricardo with 60 points. Welcome back to Malaysia Jan and Markus, after a long absence in Europe. After the game seven of us rushed to Nilai for a nice lunch, fully sponsored by Bernhard. 2024 LC CHRISTMAS LUNCH-13-12-2024-RENAISSANCE HOTEL CITY CENTER

Cannon’s

What a great Christmas lunch we had this year at the Renaissance Hotel City Center. Twelve of us started arriving at R Bar for a few drinks, a wine contest, and the virgin ceremony, celebrating our newest members Frans Bakker and Martin Middleton. Iain Wise was the only one who arrived 20 minutes late due to an LRT technical problem (that was his excuse), anyway whatever the explanation he had to pay a 50.00 rm fine for his bad offense. This time our wine expert was Frans Bakker, who decided the crappiest bottle of wine was the one brought from the other virgin, Martin Middleton, and he had to pay a 50.00 fine for his bad behavior and a bad offense. After a few drinks and finishing all the formalities, we all moved to the lobby for a group picture and then to our private room to initiate our lunch. Before the lunch started Ricardo Castro distributed Christmas goodie bags for each of us full of gifts, a birthday gift to Mike Smith and Jan van Driel, and a special gift for our honorary member Andrew Robinson, then distributed to everyone a sample of the 2024 season summary accounts with all the numbers and stats with the final approval of all the present members. After this Ricardo passed the stage to Andrew Robinson to say some words to the past LC members who are not with us anymore, finalizing with an emotional toast to their memory as they will never be forgotten. Mike Smith our LC founder honorary member, also had a few words about the beginnings of the Loose Cannons in 2004, and some nice old stories followed by a nice and happy toast. After all the formalities, we finally started our Christmas lunch, first with a visit to the buffet followed by the special Christmas menu served later and at a good pace. Just before the desert, we initiated another LC tradition, telling a joke or singing a song, and everyone participated in a good Christmas mode, even some of the guys telling more than one joke, besides all the Fritz stories. All the wine bottles were consumed, except the crap wine from Martin Middleton of course. It was a lot of fun, happiness, and great friendship, and that is the meaning of our society and the main reason why we all keep the LC society alive. Around 4 pm eight of us moved to the Corkman for more drinks and giving some support to one of our new 2025 sponsors. One word for the hotel staff who did a great job, always very friendly attentive to our needs, and proactive. Thank you also to Bipan Kappur and Benjamin for all the arrangements and the special deal for the Loose Cannons Society. Thank you to all the LC members for your support during the 2024 season and a warm welcome to the new members. Welcome 2025 season.

Cheers

BKT UNGGUL REPORT-10-12-2024

Cannon’s,

Two flights started before 8:00 a.m. from hole one, with cool and overcast weather. The pace was smooth on the first nine, but the second nine was quite slow, with some slow flights in front of us. Bernhard played his 499 games with LC and a big party is waiting for us next week at Staffield to celebrate this milestone. Due to the last two days’ heavy rain, the course was soggy, and even some of the greens were with casual water, but overall was playable and we had a good round of golf. The winner today was Tony Morris with a solid 89 for 39 points, the second was Martin Middleton with 88 for 38 points, and the third place was our Viking Hans Berger with 115 for 32 points. Next week all to Staffield.

AMVERTON REPORT-03-12-2024

Cannon’s,

With overcast and humid weather, three full flights started before 8:00 a.m. from Hole # 1. The course was very soggy, and with such bad fairways playing like rufe grass, some of us lost some balls, making our round quite challenging. However, it is always nice to play Amverton and enjoy the fresh air. In the last two hours, the sun came out and it was very hot until the end with a nice blue sky. As usual, we always play from the blue tees, only David Lake, Hans Berger, and David Evans decided to play from the white tees. Clive Gordon played his fourth game and unfortunately, when he returned to the looker room and opened his looker, there was nothing there, as someone opened with a master key and stole all Clive’s belongings. This was quite a bad situation as we had been playing here for so many years and I never heard this situation happen. The report was done, they are checking the CCTV, and hope they can find who did this and recover Clive’s stuff. The winner today was the birthday boy, Frans Bakker with a solid 89 for 38 points, followed by Helmut Dicknoether with 97 for 34, and third place was Mister Patagonia, Bernhard Romahn with a nice 88 for 32 points. After the game, we all rushed to I Suka restaurant for a nice meal and cool drinks. Thanks to Frans Bakker who contributed 300.00 rm for the bill to celebrate his 69th anniversary. See you guys next week at Bkt Unggul.
