Results – Impian Golf & Country Club – 18th September 2018

IMG_2389

It was a wet and rainy start this morning at Impian Golf & Country Club delaying our tee off till around 8:30am. Even then the rain continued for a good 5 holes or so …. and then cleared … and then rained again on the 2nd nine for a few holes. On the positive side the course conditions were very good and the weather very cool with all the rain. We had 3 flights today and 2 of the flights finished by around 1:30pm and the other flight slightly later as they had been further delayed due to a rain stop. After the game 5 of us had a good lunch at the Crab House Restaurant in Taman Kasturi.

I have photographed some strange things on many golf courses but today there was something REALLY strange … a fish … a very large half-eaten fish in the rough at the side of the fairway on the par 5 17th hole. Can only think a large bird of prey such as a large eagle had dropped this.

Results – Berjaya Hills Golf & Country Club – 12th September, 2018

IMG_2137

Berjaya Hills Golf & Country Club is wonderfully located in the hills north east of KL offering scenic views and cool weather. It can be a real pleasure to play up here …. but not today. The course has been sadly neglected and with almost a total lack of maintenance the course is a total disgrace. Tees are shoddy, uneven and dug up in places, the fairways are untidy with many dug up areas due to wild boar activity, bunkers are very messy and in need of repair and re-sanding and the greens are potholed and patchy making putting a random lottery. The 17th green was totally sanded with large piles of sand at the edges of the green making it very difficult to make your approach and to putt.  The hole itself was totally misshapen and ragged as shown below:

IMG_2140

IMG_2139

All in all very shoddy so I do not think we will be returning to this course for a long time unless the management get their act together to fix all the problems.

We had 5 flights today and we managed to tee off on separate holes to try and speed up play. Most players got round in a reasonable time and after the game we drove back down the hill to Kampong Tinggi to our old favourite 126 Restaurant.

Results – KGSAAS – 28th August 2018

IMG_1764

The monthly trophy game this month was held at KGSAAS and although we were booked for an early tee off at 7:30am because of heavy rain we were delayed by about an hour. The first few holes were rainy (so at last I could try out my new rain jacket!) but otherwise the course was in good shape. Soon the sun was out and there were blue skies making for a pleasant morning’s golf and the rain making things a little cooler.

After the game we had lunch and the prize giving ceremony at the clubhouse terrace.

Results

The winner of the August Trophy was Geoff McLaws with a score of 76 (best gross) for 38 points.

Results – Staffield Country Resort – 21st August 2018

IMG_1677

We had 5 full flights today at Staffield Country Resort and started the day on the terrace with a presentation to Aftab Ahmad who is leaving shortly to return to California. He was presented with a pewter Royal Selangor plate which I am sure he will use to eat his breakfast from every day from now! Good luck in California Aftab and hope to see you back here for a visit soon. We also took the opportunity to take a group photograph.

IMG_1662

We played the Western and Southern nines today and the course was in good shape as usual, somewhat dry therefore resulting in players hitting longer drives than normal. The greens were good so no complaints on the course at all. Weather was very good and although the weather forecast predicted rain mid-morning we manage to miss this luckily.

After the game we had a good lunch and quite a few cold beers on the terrace.

Results – Nilai Springs Golf & Country Club – 14th August 2018

IMG_1560

It always seems to take a long time to register and get started at Nilai Springs and today was no exception …. our 8:00am tee-time turned into a 8:20am start with our 4 flights all off of the Pines nine followed by the Mango nine. Weather was hot …. really hot by the time we finished. The course was dry and the greens running quite fast and tricky.

Highlight of my game was getting on to 10-12ft from the pin in two on the Par 5 second hole on Pines ……. putting for an eagle then managed to 3 putt for a par (WTF!)

We all finished by 1:30 pm or so  (apart from Geoff McLawws who left after 9 holes to sort out some dog issues!) and took lunch on the terrace.

Results

The winner this week under these difficult conditions was Aftab Ahmad with a score of 94 for 37 points, 2nd place to Ricardo Castro with 87 (best gross) for 33 points. Full results below:

Results – Templer Park Country Club – 17 July 2018

IMG_1087

There were only 8 players and 2 flights today for our game today at the wonderful Templer Park kindly arranged by Kaz Takita.

We got off early at just after 8:00am and with the course being very quiet we made good time around the 18 holes. The course was in fine condition but as always a little tricky to conquer. We all finished by 12:30pm and had a nice lunch in the clubhouse after the game.

We had one interesting situation today at the Par 5 12th hole where Stuart Taylor hit his first drive right and it was maybe 50/50 so he hit a provisional ball which was ok in the fairway. On getting down to the point where his first ball may have been a ball was suddenly and miraculoulsy thrown down from the slope by a monkey! There was a troop of them sitting up there at the top of the hill. There was no way to determine wher the original ball may have been so Stuart had to play the ball as it lay which was below a small wiry bush just off the fairway making his 2nd shot rather difficult. he got away with a luck bogey on that hole aftre two-hitting out the bunker then chipping in!! Must train that monkey a but better to throw the ball ON to the fairway!!

Results

The winner today was Stuart Taylor with a gross 87 (best of the day) for 35 points. Runner up was Siegmund Maierbrugger with 93 for 33 poimts. Full results below:
