SERI SELANGOR RESULTS-5-10-2021

Dear All,

We had two three balls this morning, which normally promises a good run time through the course. However, a very slow flight in front of us, which also decided to play off the blue tees, caused quite some waiting time. Anyway, the weather was good, no sun to start with and only the last 5/6 holes it was getting warmer. And of course the company was good. We saw Erol back again, recently a new grandfather, and Helmut after a very long stay in Europe. Welcome again!
The course was very good, some greens very sandy, but nevertheless fast and true. A pleasure to play here again. The registration was a bit unorganized as they are still renovating in the clubhouse, but we were allowed to use the locker rooms and showers again! And that is a relief, to have a nice shower after a round of golf.
We had lunch in the Beer Factory, just across the road where we met our other Tuesday fellows. Our birthday boy Iain gave us a generous donation to celebrate that fact and therefore the lunch, and beers, were very cheap!! Congratulations and thanks very much, Iain.
The scores were as follows: Helmut won with 35 points (99 gross), so he got the voucher. Jan was second with 96 – 33, Dave 106 – 31, Tony 96 – 30, Erol 113 – 29 and Iain closed off with 104 – 26

BUKIT KEMUNING RESULTS-28-9-2021

Dear All,

We had a sort of mini Ryder Cup at Bukit Kemuning, the Blues against the Oranges. I leave it to the imagination of the readers to decide who was who. Anyway, we had a very enjoyable game, a lot of fun and we all played well. The course, from tee to green was in a good condition, certainly taking into account the amount of rain we had recently. Of course the rough outside the fairways had its wet patches, and yes, some of the greens were a bit bumpy, but on the whole it was a great morning. The weather was helping us as well, clear with nice blue skies with some clouds in it.
The scores were good: Bernard won with 87 – 37, Jan was second (OCB) with 93 – 36, Iain third with 94 – 36 and Dave closed the ranks with 109 – 28. So the conclusion was that the Oranges won the match…..Lunch was a bit of a challenge, Gather Gather Kitchen didn’t have any beer, The Beer World was closed (!!), so we ended up in a Chinese coffee house/restaurant, where we were allowed to sit on two tables next to each other to enjoy our food and our beer.
Next week Seri Selangor is in the plans

TASIK PUTERI RESULTS-21-9-2021

Dear All,

After a very long time, about 6 months, we teed off at Tasik Puteri again. And it was a joy to play. The weather was great, as can be seen from the pictures, and the course was in a good condition. Admittedly some parts were very wet, to the point that I lost a ball just in front of the green, plugged probably half a meter below the fairway. There have been a number of cows/buffalo’s on the course as some of the fairways, and greens, were damaged, but that was OK, as everybody had the same problem. The greens were a bit variable as far as speed is concerned, sometimes very slow and some of them good speed as expected. Again, as in the last weeks, the course was very quiet. Not all golfers have found the way back to the golf course again, it seems. Our regular restaurant was closed, only open for take away, and therefore we enjoyed lunch and beers at the club.
The scores were OK as well, only Tony played to his handicap, which resulted in him ending up in first place (90 – 36). Dave had 105 – 32, Bernard 91 – 32, Iain 99 – 31, Jan 98 – 31 and Robert 113 – 32

BUKIT JALIL RESULTS-14-9-2021

Dear All,

Again we were with a small group at a good playable Bukit Jalil. A lot of our regulars are abroad, so for the time being we have to get used to a small group. As said, Bukit Jalil was in a good condition, not easy to play, and that is shown by the scores: nobody ended in the thirties…..We had good fun, some balls really strayed off the good path, but that’s part of golf.
Tony was first with 97 – 29, Jan second with 102 – 27, Iain third with 105 – 25 and Dave closed the round off with 113 – 24. We will stay away for some time from Bukit Jalil as we can now venture into Selangor and KL combined again. So next week Tasik Puteri is on the program.

KGPA RESULTS-7-9-2021

Dear All,

We had a wonderful afternoon golf at KPGA! As they do not allow us, as non members, to play in the morning, we played an afternoon game. The course was quite empty, and therefore great to play. Yes, the sun was out, but we had a good breeze to keep it nice and pleasant. We played the lakes, followed by the hills, not the easiest ones, and both were in a very good condition. The railways and greens were very well maintained and excellently playable. In short, we had fun and really enjoyed ourselves.KPGA is always a difficult course to play, as was clear from the scores: Bernard finished top with 90 – 33, followed by Dave with 110 – 27.Full results below. We followed this up with a couple of good drinks and some food at Lavaa restaurant.
Next week Bukit Jalil again!

Cheers

RESULTS BKT JALIL-1-9-2021

Dear All,

What a joy it was to be able to play golf  again! Nice to be out again with friends and try to get a nice score in.We began last week with almost two full flights, then one after another dropped out, so eventually we played with 5, a two ball and a three ball. The course was almost empty, so we had a fast time, coming back within 4 hours. As expected, the course was wet, resulting in frequent looking for plugged balls, sometimes even well under the fairway surface. The greens were good, so that was not the excuse. It was more that we haven’t been playing for quite a while that the scores were a bit low.Jan finished first with 97 – 32, Bernard 92 – 30, Iain 100 – 30, Tony 102 – 24, Dave 118 – 19
After the game, no locker rooms, no showers (apart from Bernard….!), but a good lunch at the club.
So the first game is in!! Let’s hope that was the first one of many to come without any MCO’s anymore!
See you all next week.

AUGUST 2021 REPORT-THE GREAT ESCAPE!!

Dear All,

August 2021 was again a month without golf for the Loose Cannons. But….. on 1st September we will play again. If it weren’t for the fact that we have a public holiday on 31st August, we would have had a game in August. At last the government decided that playing golf is not that hazardous anymore as long as you are fully vaccinated. So we are looking forward to playing our first game again! So time to dust off our clubs and our skills, and let’s get going! See you all Wednesday at Bukit Jalil to celebrate our freedom.

Cheers

JULY 2021 REPORT-THE SAGA CONTINUES!!

Dear Loose Cannons,
Again a month without golf….. It is getting a bit boring isn’t it? From the earlier words of the PM it looked like a bit of light at the end of the tunnel when he said that fully vaccinated people MAY get some relief in sports etc. And that only in some parts of the country. Well, I am sure that Selangor and KL will be at the bottom of the list, looking at the number of infections here. I just cleaned up my clubs again, making sure that mould will not start to ruin my grips.
I will be getting my second jab on 12 August, so I guess from that perspective, I could be playing again two weeks later. But, of course, that is all subject to the decisions the government will take.
So for the time being no progress. I can only urge everyone to get yourself vaccinated as soon as possible, because that is the only way out of this situation. And for the rest enjoy golf on the internet, YouTube and TV.If you want to read something interesting, check this out:https://www.morningsun.net/story/news/2021/07/26/psu-research-team-begins-work-soybean-based-golf-balls/8088730002/. Below update standings for LCOTY.

It won’t be long and we can eat our golf balls 😉😉😉

Hope see you guys in August and stay safe.

JUNE 2021 REPORT

Dear Loose Cannons,
The June news for the Loose Cannons can be short and simple: NO GOLF !A very sad month which will go into the history as no Loose Cannons games played for a whole month as this is not allowed in Malaysia! Also the announcement just now (Sunday 12.02)  that the lock down will not finish tomorrow, will mean that it is very likely that we will start July with not being on the fairways. So it is just television, you tube, games etc which can keep us a bit in swing.Last week I cleaned my golf clubs from all the dust it was gathering. I was tempted to do some swings, but I am sure that my wife would not have liked that at all, so I put them back in the bag, and thought when, oh when…..
I hope everyone has had their first vaccination, and some of us maybe even the second shot already. That is the only way out, guys, get yourself vaccinated!
I have calculated the handicap progress in absolute and relative terms over the first half of the year, but actually of course it was only over the first 4 months and a bit of the year. The table you can see at Statistics page, to keep you motivated……and other fresh stats, and below LCOTY standings.
Hope to see you all soon on the course again, and in the meantime, keep yourself safe and healthy!

MAY 2021 REPORT

Dear Loose Cannons,
I hope everything is well with you all. Enjoying watching golf on TV and youtube, and thinking: when will it be our turn again…?Well, my expectation is that it will take a while before we can go around on the course again. With the way the figures are going at the moment here in Malaysia, it doesn’t look good at all. So let’s concentrate on getting vaccinated, sooner rather than later. That is at the moment the only way out of this situation.
On the Loose Cannons, we have only played one game in May, so no monthly results. Maybe June, but that is questionable under the present circumstances. We still have a credit open at Bukit Jalil and Rahman Putra, so those would be the first ones to choose from when the courses will open again. Below LCOTY standings after May.
Wishing you all the best, enjoy the lock down, stay safe and hopefully see you soon.
