Results – Bukit Kemuning Golf & Country Club – 5th July 2011

Cannons all.
Bkt Kemuning was very dry with brick hard fairways which were rather worn in places but the greens were good and with little early traffic we were all round in good time.
We had planned at the morning gathering to take M&M at a nearby Chinese but fate intervened. Mike Smith had a hole-in-one at the 176m 2nd using a 7 wood and with money to be spent we decided to stay at the club for lunch…….and lousy it was. But what to do lah? Why can’t golf clubs in Malaysia provide reasonably good grub?
With the dry conditions and the resultant long run, low scores were anticipated and so it turned out. The winner was Mike Smith with 46 points and the runner-up OCB was Glen with 39 points. I’m cut 10 strokes and Glen just the one. The lowest gross was 85 by Andrew Robinson and the most golf was shared between Glen and Ray with 98’s.
The formalities took a while but the resultant RM2000 had to be spent so several tables had free M&M (most without a word of thanks) and the staff went home happy as well. The “pot” for the day; RM254, went to the float which now stands at RM643. We will have to find a way of spending some of it!

15 Cannons and 2 guests were scheduled to play Bukit Kemuning on a wet Tuesday morning but Aftab messaged Hans while were assembling to say he wasn’t coming (was that because of a little rain?) and Rainli’s friends didn’t show because Rainli had switched his mobile off overnight, overslept (as usual) and didn’t get to answer their enquiry as to whether the game was on or not. Guys, unless it’s absolutely unavoidable, if you register to play you must attend. If you are bringing guests make sure they turn up.
It rained heavily and continuously from the early hours till 7am and then eased to a steady light rain till about 11am. The 14 survivors got started a bit late at 08:45 and were round in reasonable time. The course was wet but quite playable but the greens were generally poor to awful.
The winner with 38 points was Ray Funnell and the runner up with 37 points OCB was myself. Cuts of 4 & 1 apply. The lowest gross was 83 by John Laidley and the most golf 117 was played by Alan Holgate.
M&M was taken at the club which is quite good and reasonably priced.

Results – Bukit Kemuning – 1st February 2011

19 golfers played Bukit Kemuning on Federal Taritory Day and considering it was a PH for KL and the eve of CNY the course management did a good job in maintaining order so that we were round in under 5 hours. The course was in surprisingly good condition after the soaking of the past few days and the weather was fine. By thhe way, thanks to Barry for making the booking. This is a good venue for Cannons. We will play it again.

The winner was Kevin Wiggins with 42 points and the runner up OCB was John Laidley with 39 points. Kevin is cut 6 and John 1 stroke. The lowest gross with an impressive 78 was John Laidley and the most golf was played by Peter Jackson. The full results and your adjusted handicaps can be found in the attachment.

With the exception of Siegi who couldn’t stay but donated RM50 to the pot (good man Siegi) everyone else enjoyed M&M at the club. We welcomed back David Hughes on his annual pilgrimage and a couple of visitors. All in all a good day UNTIL the bill arrived. A whopping RM803. With RM608 in the pot the remaining 8 stalwarts contributed RM20 each and the balance was topped up from the carry over money. Gents, if you partake of M&M and leave BEFORE the bill arrives please leave a small contribution to the pot.
For the record the carry over fund now stands at RM323.

A couple of asides worth mentioning.
Several of the tee boxes had the blue & white tees together. Andrew noticing this asked if we were playing from the whites or the blues and “why are the white tees in front of the blues.”
Reinli, having overslept last week arriving an hour and a quarter late, emailed to assure me that he would be on time this week adding that he only lived “10 minutes away” and could “walk it”. Guess what?????

Results – Bukit Kemuning Golf & Country Resort – 24th August 2010

Ten players assembled at Bukit Kemuning for the August 24th game. The course was in generally good condition with the exception of a few approaches to greens which were soggy. The greens themselves played quite well – unlike a few of the golfers. We welcomed back a few old faces after the holidays and all seemed to enjoy the day…

Ray Funnell won on count back with 34 points from a gross 99. Andrew Robinson was runner up 34 from 93. (This stopped Zack Preston’s run of top two finishes – and also his handicap reductions for a while!) Andrew also recorded the day’s best gross whilst Barry Cousin’s played most golf with 115. In Barry’s defense he was playing with a bad knee which may or may not have contributed.

M&M was taken off site at restaraunt chosen by Barry. (Barry continues to provide this excellent service of introducing our bunch of reprobates to his favourite places – he will probably be persona non grata sooner than later at most of them.) Anyway six of us partook of an excellent meal accompanied by several large beers and two bottles of wine. Maybe the old Cannons are returning, which should be music to the ears of Mr. Smith!!

Next weeks game will be played on Monday August 30th due to the holiday on Tuesday. Look out for the details which will be circulated soon.

There was some uncertainty after the game as regards whether or not Barry was going to show up and lead us to a local hostelry for F&B…  In the event we stayed at the club and the food was rather good.  And on the subject of Barry I received a rather odd email from him the previous week after the announcement that we would play at Awana Genting Golf Resort – too far to go, would need to stay the night, blah, blah.  I transpired that he thought Awana Genting was up in the Cameron Highlands!!  Clearly ‘Genting’ did not provide an adequate enough clue at to the location of the course…….former captain of industry, and all
Another worthy mention was the flight spearheaded by Ian – and submitting a dogs breakfast of a scorecard.  This because nobody in the flight was quite sure how to work out the Stableford points……..?
And a deserved mention must go to the beer consumption which amounted to one mug of Carlsberg and one bottle of stout – between 11 thirsty golfers…..
With yours truly off to London this week adn Mike still unable to swing a club the subject of appointing a new Pro Tempore Cannons Convenor arose.  There was much naval gazing, ‘I’m going to be away’, ‘I’m got to go to the bog’, shoe lace inspections and so on. And then Mike Hughes saved the day by saying he would be delighted and honoured to do it for a few weeks.  Thankyou Mike. So WOULD MIKE S. PLEASE UPDATE THE STATS FOR THE LAST COUPLE OF GAMES AND FORWARD TO MIKE H. ALSO GET THE JULY MONTHLY TROPHY TO HIM.  Thankyou.
Kind regards
Andrew Robinson
