Report

A good turnout of 19 Players teed off on time at 0745 hrs on the Sultan and Alam Shah 9 s. Great golfing weather, light cloud and even a little breeze…..KGSAAS was not in its normal excellent condition, with some long , uncut rough, varied uncut fairways, and a few of the greens had been deluge effected.  But all had a good morning’s golf.

The winner on the day, with an excellent lowest gross 79 for 43 points was Geoff McClaws. Cut 7.   Next time out handicap 4. The now customary bridesmaid was Stuart Taylor with 90 for 42 points. Cut only 1.

Report

Loose Cannons All,

Fourteen of us assembled at KGSAAS this lovely cool morning for the usual Tuesday play. The course played as one could expect after the heavy rain on Sunday a bit soggy and wet here and there, but greens were as good as we have known them to be during the dry season.

At the top of the ladder with 42pts was Hans Berger and cut 6, closely followed by Aftab on same points but with one point less on the back-nine, Aftab cut 1.

John Laidley as expected had the lowest gross with 79 (41 pts) and the most golf had Allan McNicoll with 123.

Hans Berger commented “Being a member I should perhaps not comment but I reckon the food at the restaurant has improved and by observing what presently happens at the course, the President nine is subject for green resurfacing, one would think the three nines will stay.”

Finances

– Intake; 12 x 160 non-member + 2 x 100 member + 12 x 20 extras = 2360

 Expenses; Green fee 1676 + M&M 548 + winner 50 = 2274

– Kitty = 86 Rm

Results – KGSAAS – 31st July 2012

Cannons all,

16 LC’s mustered at KGSAAS on an overcast Tuesday for the July Trophy Game. At 7:45 the darkness was broken by flashes of lightning and claps of thunder as the heavens opened. Soon after the siren sounded; a little late we thought as there were some early starters on the course. Not a promising start.

Yours truly held back from registering until play seemed probable but the storm was short lived and we were able to make our way to the starters hut at 8:30 and we were off by 8:45, all from the same tee box as the other tee was occupied by some very slow flights. We played the Alam Shah and Presidents nines.

After the storm the weather was almost perfect and with the course in excellent condition from tee to green and no hold ups and we were all round in good time.
KGSAAS really is an excellent golf course and fears for it’s future after the demise of it’s previous owners seem unfounded as the new owners are investing in continued improvements to the club facilities in their entirety. As Ted Parslow remarked, ‘I’ve never seen this course in such good condition.” Lets hope it stays that way.

The winner of the JULY TROPHY with 39 points off the stick plus 3 bonus points for 42 points was Tony Morris. The runner-up was Barry Cousins with 39 + 2 for 41 points. The lowest gross was 77 by Geoff McLaws and the most golf was played by Richard Moss with 113.
Tony is cut 4 strokes and Barry 1 stroke.

Lunch was at taken at the club who had a simple menu of local fare this Ramadan. All 16 players were present and there was good camaraderie and lively conversation.

Results for KGSAAS Tuesday 5th June!

KGSAAS was in excellent condition and with near perfect weather 13 LC’s teed it up at 8 o’clock sharp. We played the Sultans and Alam Shah 9’s; the third 9 is currently closed for the complete relaying of one of the greens……not normally something that would be done by a club threatened with closure! There is also a fleet of brand new buggies as well as new uniforms for the caddies and plenty of evidence by way of major maintenance projects, that this great golf course will be with us for some considerable time. Praise be the Lord.
The bad news is that the former ‘mid week deal’ has become more expensive; it now stands at RM121 p.p. which includes 1 caddy per buggy. But the very bad news is that if you are a 3 ball they charge RM50.50 for the half buggy and caddy. So, with the dreaded 13 again this week, (we were 16 Sunday), this becomes an expensive course but well worth the RM121 if we have full flights.

The winner was myself with 39 points o.c.b and the runner-up was Aftab Ahmad with 39 o.c.b. The lowest gross was 86 by Joe Zorich and the most golf was played jointly by Glen Wombwell and Alan Holgate with 112.
I am cut 4 strokes and Aftab 1 stroke.

M&M was taken at the club by 11 of the players and very good it was too, if a little slow to arrive for some. Helped along by several jugs of beer there was some lively discussion as to next weeks venue. I proposed Staffield but there were some wingers and the rumour that KLOGS will play there the following week. So what??? Then our annual visit to Kampung Kuantan was suggested which seemed to get the nod but in the cold light of dawn I have changed my mind, (my privilege) and we will do KK later, so it’s Staffield next week.

Because the RM130 a head levied by yours truly at the start barely covered the green fees there was a whip round of RM40 needed to almost cover the bill with the shortfall of RM20 coming out of LC’s kitty.

We will return to KGSAAS but I may insist on full flights next time. So be warned.

Results – KGSAAS – 24th April 2012

Cannons all,
KGSAAS remains a very nice, well run golf club despite the continuing rumours about it’s future. Even the ‘members’ seem unsure as to how the club is to be redeveloped. Money is being spent on general maintenance of the course including several stretches of new concrete buggy track and drains as well as improvements to the greens. This hopefully bodes well for it’s near term longevity.
12 LC’s; a rather poor turnout, contested the April Medal on a bright morning under high cloud on a course in lovely condition. A light breeze helped keep everyone cool and with light traffic we were all round in good time.
The winner was Mike Smith with 42 points on the day + 2 bonus points for a total of 44. R/Up was Mark Baker with 43 points + 0 bonus points for a total of 43. The lowest gross was 84 by Geoff McLaws and the most golf played was 116 by Richard Moss..
Mike Smith is cut 6 strokes and Mark Baker 1 stroke.
