Results – Kinrara Golf Club – 18th January 2011

The usual small turnout on the day preceding KLOGS. It never fails to amaze me; even taking age into account, that so many believe that they can’t play 2 days running.

So, 10 of us played the very picturesque Kinrara course in pleasant conditions that warmed up through the later holes; a change from the cool conditions of recent weeks. The course was in generally good condition but very wet and with little run with several lost balls due to plugging. The greens however were poor compared to the rest of the course, rather bumpy and with half of them recently hollow tined and sanded.
The winner was Tony Morris with 42 points, cut 6, and the runner up was Reinli Tan with 38 points, cut 1. The lowest gross was recorded by John Laidley with 82 and the most golf was played by Tom Holmes.
One flight did not return a score because none of them came to lunch and between them they couldn’t organise themselves to get their scores to the convener. This is unacceptable. It is the flights responsibility to return a score card at the end of the game.
Lunch was taken at thr RSC Annex and very agreeable it was too.

Results – Tasik Puteri Golf Club – 11th January 2011

15 players said they would play but only 13 actually made it to Tasik Puteri on a damp and overcast morning that threatened rain but mercifully stayed dry. With cool conditions and a course in very good order; especially the greens that were both fast and true, scoring should have been lower than recorded but…… Andrew Robinson, back from the snow fields of England, ran out the winner OCB with 37 points from R/U Tony Morris. Lowest gross was 88 by Hans Berger (clearly the cut of 10 last week only brought out the best in him!) and the most golf was played by Barry Cousins with a score that won’t be recorded here. Lets just say it was a score Australia would have been proud of recently.
M&M was enjoyed by 10 of the 13 plus Raymond Keys who declined the golf, but knows where a tasty meal can be had! The makan was good as we have come to expect at the Equatorial without being outstanding but the camaraderie was excellent.

Results – Staffield Golf & Country Club – 4th January 2011

A small turnout this week of 10 golfers found Staffield in reasonable nick with much evidence of long overdue maintenance in progress. We played the Southern & Northern nines in ideal conditions with the firm fairways producing good run and the greens played true and quite fast, especially on the Southern 9. The only real complaint is the very soft (boggy) patches in front of and around several greens due to leaking water pipes. On an otherwise firm golf course a ball; even a golfer, can easily be plugged and even lost in these mini swamps.
Hans Berger was the winner (and the low gross) with 87 and 46 points and the runner up was Barry Cousins with 43 points. The most golf was played by myself as I continue to struggle to refind my game. The new eyes will, I hope, help.
5 golfers took M&M in Mantin and very good it was too, particularly the pork nuckle which was exceptional. Pity Tony couldn’t join us; he’s on a diet I understand! Bloody hell, just when I thought we were getting away from all these juices and other unmentionable beverages that members haaave started to consume in place of the amber nectar we have a stalwart abstaining all together in the name of vanity. For Barry, Mantin was a bridge too far. The other absentees no doubt had similar weak excuses. Guys, the apre golf M&M is an important element of Loose Cannons golf mornings.
This was Michael Hughes last game this visit. Bon voyage Mike.
Watch this space for details of next weeks venue which likely will be Tasik Puteri.

Results – Nilai Springs – 28th December 2010

16 golfers contested the December Trophy game at Nilai Springs in perfect weather on a course in exceptionally good condition. NS are clearly spending money on their course maintenance with numerous ground staff all in smart uniforms beavering away. Well done NS. Even the buggies were new!
The winner with 44 points plus 3 bonus points was Erol Akinci and the runner up with 41 points plus 3 bonus points was Hans Berger. Erol is cut 8 and Hans 1. The lowest gross was 86 by Akinci the younger and the most golf was played by Barry Cousins.
M&M was taken at the club and Erol’s contribution of his winning helped keep the cost down. Thank you Erol. Your trophy is with me as is John Laidley’s November trophy. We welcomed back Michael Hughes from the frozen north.

Results- Bukit Unggul – 21st December 2010

The Christmas game at Bukit Unggul was well attended with 20 registrations but Rein Li failed to show up despite texting Ray Funnell that he was “on the way”. RLT, you owe RM50 being the registration fee paid on your behalf.
Thus 19 players; 15 Cannons and 4 guests, teed off mostly wearing the customary festive head gear and we enjoyed perfect weather on a course in fair nick but ravaged in parts by visiting babi hutan; a perennial problem at BU. The greens were OK for the most part but a couple were heavily sanded but generally fair scores were returned. Paul Jayaraj was the clear winner 42 points and Dick Stauffer was runner up with 40 points. Kevin & Bernhard tied lowest gross with 86’s and the most golf was played by guest Jean-Eric Husson with 111. The details follow.

Thanks go out to Kevin who contributed 6 Green Fee & 2 F&B Vouchers which helped the finances. At RM80 per head for non BUGCC players this was good value. We held RM450 for the post game F&B but with 8 jugs of beer (plus 2 donated FOC by the club) consumed we were short by RM175 which was paid out of the accumulated carry over, this being Christmas. Thanks also to Ray F for pre registering the players. Thanks guys. All in all a good day.
Next week is the Monthly Trophy game. Watch this space for details.
Ray F. Please forward me Tony Russell’s Email and I will add him to the circulation list.
Merry Christmas to all.

Thanks to Keith Ganesan for the photos.
