Results – Bukit Unggul – 21st June 2011

Cannons all
BU was in OK condition Tuesday; a couple of greens having recently been hollow tined and heavily sanded, but this will happen on an 18 hole layout where you can’t rest a nine. The weather was fine and the course very dry with lots of run on the fairways and some very impressive scores were anticipated on this relatively easy track but……………
11 had signed up by pm Monday but this dwindled to 9 by Tuesday morning but as we have some members here and several HSBC card holders who enjoy free green fees it’s not an expensive venue. But I wonder how much longer this place can survive? A great pity really as with some TLC under proper imaginative management it could be a very nice venue.
Andrew Robinson was the winner with a low gross of 86 and 39 points with Klaus Kretzschmar runner-up with 35 points. Most golf was played by Vincent with 116.
This was Andrew’s 255th game with LC and his 30th win with a win ratio of 8.5 moving him into the top place for wins. Well done Andrew. You are cut 4 strokes and Klaus 1 stroke.
Bukit Unggul was dry and running fast ….. unlike the players!

Doesn’t look like Mike has a club in his hand … perhaps it is moving too quickly!!

After fighting off a major monkey attack play continues
Note : Badly replaced flag from the group in front of ours ….. on more than a few holes!!

Results – Bukit Unggul – 10th May 2011

With 2 late withdrawals 13 golfers teed it up at a dry Bukit Unggul on hazy morning; a welcome change to the prolonged wet weather we have been experiencing. This together with a  relatively easy golf course resulted in some good scores. The winner by a whisker was Barry Cousins with 46 points from runner-up Andrew Robinson with 45 points. The lowest gross was 83 shot by Kevin Wiggins and the most golf was played by George Murrey. Barry is cut 10 strokes while Andrew gets away with the mandatory 1 shot cut. How unfair I hear them howl.

Results – Bukit Unggul – 5th April 2011

19 golfers assembled to play BU and bid Dave Hughes bon voyage as he heads back to the frozen north after his 3 months in the sun. Dave will be back next January.

BU was in good condition but they still have the Babi Hutan problem which disfigures the course in many areas. Pity but I guess there is little that can be done to prevent it.

With perfect weather all flights made good progress until the start of the back nine when a flight with a couple of women that appeared from nowhere and were unable to play the game at all, held us up until the manager was called to get them out of the way. Nevertheless, most were round in 4 hours; some considerably faster.

The winner with his lowest gross ever of 82 and 46 points was Tony Morris. Tony is cut 10. Runner up was Hans Berger with 45 points cut 1. The lowest gross was 78 by departing David and the most golf was played by Julian Purvis after some very wayward driving. In addition to the RM50 Tony received a bottle of Jonny Walker form Dave which did the round of the table. Tony generously donated his winnings to the pot which, after some recalculation left us with a surplus of RM50!!! Good on you Tony.

Congratulations to the winners and thanks to Ray Funnell for helping me with the bookings.

Results – Bukit Unggul Country Club – 1st March 2011

What a great way to celebrate St David’s day, than to play one of the most scenic golf courses in Malaysia!

Bukit Unggul was in good shape today considering the heavy rain it had taken. It was still pouring down at 8 but luckily for us it stopped just before we started. The bunkers gave us some problems as they were mostly full of water but Klaus either didn’t go in them or he played like a pro!

Klaus was the winner today with 43pts and is cut but 7. Barry was second on count back to Ray F on 40pts and is cut by 1.

Best gross was Ted with 81 shots. Most golf played was Bruce with a 122 shots. Mike Hughes may be coming back when he sees this week’s scores! A special mention to Ray F for helping with the booking in at reception, getting a 10% discount off the F&B and two free jugs of beer, cheers, Ray. It was nice to see Geoff and Ted join the Cannons and we look forward to their company in the future. It was also great to SEE Mike after his eye op, let’s hope he is up and running for the Cannons trip down south.

Results- Bukit Unggul – 21st December 2010

The Christmas game at Bukit Unggul was well attended with 20 registrations but Rein Li failed to show up despite texting Ray Funnell that he was “on the way”. RLT, you owe RM50 being the registration fee paid on your behalf.
Thus 19 players; 15 Cannons and 4 guests, teed off mostly wearing the customary festive head gear and we enjoyed perfect weather on a course in fair nick but ravaged in parts by visiting babi hutan; a perennial problem at BU. The greens were OK for the most part but a couple were heavily sanded but generally fair scores were returned. Paul Jayaraj was the clear winner 42 points and Dick Stauffer was runner up with 40 points. Kevin & Bernhard tied lowest gross with 86’s and the most golf was played by guest Jean-Eric Husson with 111. The details follow.

Thanks go out to Kevin who contributed 6 Green Fee & 2 F&B Vouchers which helped the finances. At RM80 per head for non BUGCC players this was good value. We held RM450 for the post game F&B but with 8 jugs of beer (plus 2 donated FOC by the club) consumed we were short by RM175 which was paid out of the accumulated carry over, this being Christmas. Thanks also to Ray F for pre registering the players. Thanks guys. All in all a good day.
Next week is the Monthly Trophy game. Watch this space for details.
Ray F. Please forward me Tony Russell’s Email and I will add him to the circulation list.
Merry Christmas to all.

Thanks to Keith Ganesan for the photos.
