Results – Bukit Unggul – 16th November 2010

15 of us mustered at Bukit Unggal in delightful weather.  The course was very quiet and in good nick, apart from a few sanded greens on the back 9. It was a novelty for us to have a lady playing – Lau being an affable Sarawakian guest of Reinli, and she fitted in well and enjoyed herself. Winner was Tom Holmes with 93 gross for 41 points, and cut 5.  Runner-up was Reinli Tan with 88 gross for 40 points, and cut 1. Lowest gross was John Laidley with 85 and Alan Holgate played a few more shots than the rest with 117. Full results:
1. Tom Holmes – 93/41
2. Reinli Tan – 88/40
3. Paul Jeyaraj – 94/39
4. Hans Berger – 92/37
5. Ian Geekie – 98/37
6. Tony Morris – 88/35
7. John Laidley – 85/31
8. Ray Funnel – 99/31
9. Siegmund Maierbrugger – 103/31
10. Andrew Robinson – 94/29
11. Dick Stauffer – 104/28
12. Bernhard Romahn – 98/27
13. Richard Moss – 101/27
14. Lau – 108/26
15. Alan Holgate – 117/20
Lunch was taken at the club where we celebrated Ray Funnel’s 64th birthday. Ray kindly donated 3 bottles of white wine and there were another couple of bottles of red, together with some Chivas.  The throng rose to sing Happy Birthday, replete with some Tony Morris embellishments.  And the club provided a cake with 5 candles, which Ray managed to extinguish on the second attempt. With RM547 still in the kitty, the CPTCA was taken aback when the bill came for RM704!  This was inflated by the quite unexpected corkage charge of RM30 per bottle of wine.  Thus there was a deficit of RM157. By this time there were only 2 of us left so a whip round was not possible…..the debt collector will be knocking on your door!
Finances
Income: B/FD 22, collection RM100 x 15 – total RM1522.
Expenditure: golf RM705, rebates for members/coupons RM220, winner RM50, F&B RM704 – total RM1679
Deficit – RM157

And please note that Tuesday 7 December is a public holiday. Accordingly, the game that week will most probably be on Wednesday 8 December and at Saujana to celebrate Kevin’s 60th. To be confirmed a tad nearer the time.

Next Game – Bukit Unggul – 16th November 2010

Next week we will play BUKIT UNGGUL  and celebrate Ray Funnel’s 64th birthday.  Ray has promised to bring along a case of fine claret and the half bottle of Chivas left over from Alan Holgates birthday bash at the Equatorial will also be on the table.  Please confirm by email asap if you will be playing, adn be there by 7.30.

Results – Bukit Unggul Golf Club – 7th September

There were 11 of us for the game at Bukit Unggul.  The course was in very good nick, the weather sublime and we were the only people on the course when we started out!  The first flight of 3 were back in the clubhouse at 11.00 am and enjoyed a leisurely lunch prior to the 2 four balls arriving back noonish.

Winner on the day with his best ever round of golf was Bernhard Romahn with 82 off the stick and 48 points!  Ironically he was off to Alistair after the game to collect his new set of clubs!  Perhaps a tad late to cancel the order?  And second with 91 off the stick and 36 points was Hans ‘Rattan’ Berger.  Lowest gross was of course Bernhard’s 82 and the most golf was enjoyed by Jacko with a solid 120. Bernhards handicap is lightly trimmed by 12 and Hans by 1. Full details below:

1. Bernhard Romahn – 82/48
2. Hans Berger – 91/36
3. Andrew Robinson – 90/34
4. Ray Funnell – 94/33
5. Barry Cousins – 98/33
6. Glen Wombwell – 95/31
7. Ian Geekie – 101/29
8. Dick Stauffer – 103/29
9. Klaus Kretschmar – 102/28
10.Tom Holmes – 116/18
11.Peter Jackson – 120/15

Makanan dan minuman were taken at the club, and although the food when it arrived was fine, the service was appalling!  3 waitpersons lounging around at the other end of the terrace with nobody else to serve but us………….?  Carry-over was RM25.

Tom was welcomed back and having only arrived from Stanstead the night before was in remakably good shape, less so his golf…but he seemed to be looking forward to returning to the Beach Club asap.

Next weeks arrangements to be confirmed in a day or two…

Dan Selamat Hari Raya kepada semua Cannons!!

Results – Bukit Unggul – 15th June 2010

Just 9 golfers turned up – the course was quiet, in good condition and the weather most clement. The first 2 flights finished in rapid time, with the 3rd coming in 55 minutes later…..for no obvious reason.

Winner was Erol with a gross 89 and 40 points, cut 4. This could have been much better as Erol shot 39 for the first 9 before the wheels came off. Second was Tom Holmes with a gross 99 and 39 points, cut 1. Lowest gross was Erol and Andrew, both with 89, and the most golf was enjoyed by Bernhard with 103. Full details are as follows:
Erol Akinci – 89/40
Tom Holmes – 99/39
Ray Funnell – 93/36
Sigi – 98/33
Andrew Robinson – 89/32
Tony Morris – 95/32
Hans Berger – 93/31
Rein Li Tan – 101/30
Bernhard Romahn – 103/28

There was some drama before the start of the game – yours truly, having collected the money at reception, then proceeded to lose it! It slipped down the back of the chair and was spotted by eagle-eyed Morris! And then Ziggy was seen racing back up to reception in a buggy as he had left his car keys on the reception desk. And worse was to come, Rein Li in the second flight making his way to the first tee box realised his clubs were still in his car! Former captains of industry and all..

Lunch provided more entertainment. Rein Li decided he needed some soft-boiled eggs and toast – and he ordered 6! As he was cutting off the crusts of his toast, he was asked if he had had a heavy one the night before – ‘No it was a quiet night, just a few beers and half a bottle of whisky’! And Bernhard has clearly acquired a taste for english kids food, ie egg + chips – and ordered a mountain of chips with 4 fried eggs on top! And washed it down with a combination of black coffee and fresh water melon juice…

Enough of this drivel….and best wishes to Mike for a speedy recovery after the horrendous car accident he was involved in over the weekend in Kijal.

Watch this space for news of next weeks game.

Report for Tuesday 30th March – Bukit Unggul

After 10 weeks of organising the Loose Cannons Tuesday game my spell of duty has come to an end, so I am off to Sid’s to celebrate!

I have actually enjoyed it, and the ‘Power of Convener’ is fantastic so I can fully understand why Mike wants it back. The whole thing went remarkably smoothly, until today that is but the less I say about that the better!
Also I haven’t very much positive to say about the whole Bukit Unggul experience, apart from the fact that it had reasonable greens. Perhaps this course should also be relegated to the ‘Leap Year’ group of courses, so I will leave it at that!

Fourteen people indicated intent & fourteen people turned up, – and on time I may add! Well done.
Barry, my faithful assistant was missed today, but the money collection went quite smoothly, with only one person not having the correct change!
Thanks for your help over this period Barry, and you patented ‘Flight Selector’ device is now in the capable hands of Mr. Mike!

Today’s Outcome
Highest Stableford & Lowest Gross:- Mark Baker
Lowest Stableford:- Andrew Robinson
Highest Gross:- Mike Hughes.
As we only have one wooden spoon, Andrew & Mike can either split it or share it on alternate days over the next week!

Mark was unable to be present for the Trophy presentation, and thus forfeited his winnings to the ‘Kitty Pot’. Mike Smith has your trophy to be given on your next appearance Mark!
Mark will be playing off 14 next time out!
Erol Akinci came runner up and was cut 1 to 21.
It was Erol’s 60th birthday today, but he was very pensive and subdued. Don’t worry Erol 60 is now the new 40!
Total Results:
Alan Holgate 105/32
Andrew Robinson 96/26
Benhard Romahn 104/30
David Hughes 90/31
Erol Akinci 92/37
Ian Geekie 102/31
Mark Baker 86/39
Michael Hughes 110/28
Mike Smith 95/31
Paul Atkinson 89/32
Ray Funnell 98/32
Raymond Keys 101/31
Stuart Taylor 90/33
Tony Morris 92/29

The votes for last ‘Tuesday’s Tosser’ were pathetic with only 7 votes cast, this was despite me giving a warning with EIGHT hours of voting left, that there would be a RM5 fine for any of last week ‘Tourists’ who did not vote.
Four people duly paid their RM5 fine today & only ONE whined about it!
There will be a RM5 prize for the first person (who wasn’t playing today) to sms me with the correct name of the person who they think whined!!!!

As the Loose Cannons group had become very old and extremely boring, there was a ‘significant majority’ decision to abandon this little bit of fun on a Tuesday!
I guess there is little point in ‘polling’ the whole membership on the subject as most people couldn’t be arsed to cast their vote!!! So here endeth the ‘Tuesday Tosser’!
‘Whinger of the Month’ for second consecutive month….well you all know who it was!

Finances:
Monies in RM900 + Carry Over RM458 + extra collection RM240 = RM1,598
Monies out Golf RM750 + M&M RM545. Total out RM1,295.
Carry over RM303 [Mike I will pass it to you on my return]
First call for next week….please respond to Mike after he sends out his announcement, as I will ignore any replies to my inbox.
Mike has kindly agreed to ‘Re-Convenership’, and states that all the good changes introduced during his absence will be abandoned, well hopefully not all of them….we shall see!
Over & Out
