Results – Nilai Springs – 3rd March 2020

It was a pleasant morning at Nilai Springs, with cloudy skies, we tee off just before 8:00 on Island nine. The two nines (Island and Mango) were in very good condition, dry fairways, helping to gain some distance to our game and good caddies. Typical undulated, fast Nilai greens and some with tricky pin position challenging our putting skills. Playing speed was normal as the course was very quiet for a normal Tuesday. All 3 flights finished in a good time to drive back to KL for lunch. The winner today was Allan Wright with 97/38 beating on countback Erol Akinci 99/38, and 3rd place was Ricardo Castro (Best gross) with 83/37. Today’s mystery prize winner was Iain Wise and Allan Wright got his February’s monthly medal. With today’s win, Allan is leading the monthly tables for March. Gunther Grau (Josej’s guest) joined us for his first game with LC. After a nice morning at the office, we were looking forward to a nice lunch and cool beers at East of Highway restaurant, and guess what happened, the restaurant was closed. After some debate and internet sourcing ( Thanks to Josef Winter) we managed to find another Chinese restaurant, on the same street, just 1 min walk and we discovered a good alternative place for Lunch with good food, and the most important, cool beers.

Results – KGPA – 25th February 2020

With some away in Cambodia with Wiggs, others in holidays, we only had 5 LC’s members and 2 guests, the brothers Bryan and Andy Morrows for the last game of February at KGPA.

Lakes and Forest were in very good condition, and we can see all the hard work they were doing the last 2 years are paying off. Weather was hot, dry with a beautiful blue sky and sunny all morning.

All 7 said yes to lunch at Annexe (Big thank you to Andrew), with good food and cool Tigers. Attached please find today’s game results sheet, final February rankings after 4 games, LC player of the year scores sheet and some pictures (Thanks to Paul Collett).

Results – Tasik Puteri Golf & Country Club – 18th February 2020

Another good day in paradise early morning on Tuesday 18 February. With almost everybody on time and a swift registration, we were ready to rock at 7.45 am. playing Puteri and Putera. A slight overcast and a few drops did not spoil the fun at all. The course was in a good condition and with Tony taking off like a rocket in the 1st flight we (the 2nd flight) had nobody in front of us for the rest of the game. Close before midday, we were all back at the clubhouse and just after returning it started raining; the weather gods were really with us today. Some highlights of the day:

Hans scored 125 strokes with one hand. We are still wondering how much he scored with the other hand.

Bernard produced more F**k’s with his mouth than strokes with his clubs

Our caddie was very impressed by Iain’s banana shots…….

Hakan played his 5th game so he will be granted an official LC handicap now.

Results

The winner today was Ricardo with 38 points also scoring lowest gross. 2 runners-up with both 37 points Iain and Allan. Today’s mystery price was for most gross; a sleeve of balls for Hans. He lost a few so that was more than welcome.

The competition for the monthly medal (2 best scoring games) is reaching its final stage. At this moment Allan is leading followed by Iain and Ricardo. Next week’s last chance to get your second game (if you don’t have yet) or improve your best or second-best game so far.

Results – Bukit Kemuning – 11th February 2020

A good turn out with 16 members ready to rumble early Tuesday morning. Some people were a bit late and somebody forgot his wallet but other than that no major hick hiccups (yet……). Although we all had to start at hole 1 we took off smoothly and finished the round around midday. The course was in reasonable condition although some of the greens were a bit dodgy. Dave lost his golf bag halfway the first hole, Roger lost something and came back wandering around on our green but we never found out what he lost and Tony nearly got his nose chopped off by a ball from Hans.

The real hick up started when we arrived at O&S seafood finding that they were closed! A good lesson for your convener who did not check upfront………….still young and a lot to learn. However, we worked out an alternative and ended up in Pantai seafood. The only one we could not get in touch with to announce the new venue was Erol who thus missed lunch and went home (sorry again Erol)

Allan generously contributed RM 100 for playing 100 LC games. He strongly opposes this number stating that it should be much more but nevertheless donated to the kitty. He almost won half of the amount back would he not have played my ball from the bunker on hole 11 and taking 2 penalties.

Today’s results; 3rd place with 36 Sf Iain. 40 Sf for both Allan and Ted; Ted winning OCB and raking up the RM 50.

Today’s mystery prize was for best performing flight and with both Ted and Allan in flight 2 it was a done deal. A sleeve of golf balls for all players in that flight.

Monthly Medal

3 people leading the monthly medal competition right now with all 66 stf.

Results – Danau Golf Club – 4th February 2020

16 Cannons assembled Yesterday early morning for a nice game of golf. Almost everybody made it in time to pay me before 7.15 am……….. Registration went smoothly and we took off around 7.45 am from 2 tee-boxes. Weather looking good…………what could go wrong?

Again Danau proved to be the devil himself. Nobody played his handicap. A lot of players with more than 100 strokes, putting took a lot of strokes as well and numerous 4 putts. Golf wise, not a day to remember.

The winner OCB was Roger with 34 points, followed by Ricardo (34) and shared 3rd Tom and Hans both 31 points.

Since Roger was not there for lunch to collect his price we spent his RM 50 wisely on some Tigers.

11 players joined for lunch to wash away the game as quickly as possible and that worked out well. Tony ordered some good dishes as usual; thanks for that.

The ‘mystery prize’ for today was won by Tony; having 4 putts on hole 18. More members managed to do a 4 putt there so Tony won in combination with also having the lowest Stableford between the other qualifying players.

We also celebrated the final, final goodbye from Hans as convener. A nice bottle of whiskey hopefully keeps him quiet for some time. Thanks again Hans for organizing the last 3 years.

Results – KGSAAS – 21st January 2020

All arrived in good order to complete our registration in time and what did we see when we walked down to the starters hut, quite a number of Koreans in their buggies. With a little bit of pressure on the starter we managed to tee-off alone from the President nine.

The course is known for being soggy during the wet season, the President nine lived up to that, Alam Shah a bit better.

The greens which normally are quite good were not good either with spots of different speed, as a whole a disappointment.

But the food and service at the restaurant maintain its usual good quality and buy two jugs of beer and get one extra were still on offer.

Results

Despite the condition of the course  we had three players who played better than their handicap;

– Winner on count back, Paul Geddes with 38 points

– Runner up Iain Wise

– Third Ricardo Castro 37 points

Screenshot 2020-01-21 at 8.06.08 PM

Editors Note : Correction to scores …. Bernard Romahn should be 86 for 36 points and Josef Winter should be 105 for 24 points.

Results – Bangi Golf Club – 14th January 2020

Our strategy being very early didn’t workout really as while we were the first in line when reception opened the Koreans passed behind our back loading their bags on the buggies, how come, they had paid in advance. However once we got going they did not hold us up.

We had excellent golf weather and the course, and this comes from us who has played it several times, were in decent condition being the wet season and consider the low cost it’s rather good value for money.

Nine of us joined the lunch at East of Highway and it was as usual very good.

As this was the week for Tony Morris seventy years birthday he gave a great contribution for the bill.

Happy birthday Tony and many thanks.

Results

So how did it go, almost the same as last week.

– Shared third Ricardo Castro and Bernard Romahn 35 points

– Second Stan Constantinides 36 points

– Winner Josef Winter 37 points

Results – Tasik Puteri Golf & Country Club – 7th January 2020

We welcomed Andrew Robinson back after nine month absence from golf due to his left eye. We were all ready to go well before our booked tee-time, but of course as usual we don’t know which of the three nines we will play until we have passed the “lonely lady” or rather the starter were we also get the score cards. Today we played Puteri and Tasik nines from white tee and Tasik was the one in better shape with drier fairways and better greens

After a hot day in the sun not much beat a cool Tiger beer or two at our usual Restaurant Chin Heong Rawang and we had a very good turn-up for the post game lunch today as it helps get the talking going.

Results

Ricardo Castro, Stan Constantinides, Ted Parslow and David Evans shared second place with 36 points all beaten by Josef Winter with 37.

Editors Note : There were a number of errors in the results of this week. Correct scores for Ted Parslow was 89 for 35; for Roger Surieux 100 for 34 and for Josef Winter 93 for 36.

This meant a countback on the 3 players who were on 36 points. The resulting winner of this week was Stan Constantinides.

Results – Palm Garden Golf Resort – 31st December 2019

We played Palm Garden as it was the last monthly trophy for the year as we wanted to have a nice finish.

It wasn’t too many cars on the road this New Year Eve morning so for once I arrived in very good time. Registration went smoothly but that place is like a children play school with cutting, gluing, stamping vouchers, anyway we were ready to go before our tee-off time. Weather looked promising and the course was in a very good shape except for some greens which were a bit slower.

We had the post game lunch at the clubs restaurant which was about half-full.

Happy New Year Loose Cannons

The winner today and his second monthly trophy for the year, Tony Morris with 39 points.

Results _ Danau Golf Club – 24th December 2019

Twelve Loose Cannons assembled early morning 24th of December for our traditional Christmas golf, this year at Kelab Golf Danau located next to UKM in Bangi. After Mondays heavy rain we were sort of expecting a soggy course, but it was not bad at all, even the known soggy hole 12 par five was in relative good shape.

It took us five hours due slow flights in front of us, but the course as such plays tough from the rough, not to mention to find the ball in there as well as the very tricky Parslow & Winter greens. And even from white it’s not short with its 5921 meters.

We had the post game lunch at our usual East of Highway on the way back to KL, excellent food ordered by Tony Morris for our Christmas lunch.

Results

Not unexpected the known long-hitters / good players was at the top of the scoreboard after the game.

Winner Julien Hodson Walker on 36, followed by Jason Winter 35 and Ricardo Castro with 34 points, very close at the top it was.
