Results – KGSAAS Tuesday 27th March

18 golfers teed it up at KGSAAS in overcast cool weather on a course in superb condition. After 4 holes there was a half hour rain delay but once play resumed it remained cool and fair for the rest of the round and with light traffic we were all round in good time. KGSAAS is a very nice golf course and with the promotion package currently available we will play here more often.
Iain Wise was a welcome returnee from the sands of Dubai together with occasional visitor Andy Morrow.
The winner of the March Medal was Klaus Kretzschmar with 45 points off the stick plus 3 bonus points for 48 points. The runner up was myself with 43 + 3 = 46 points. The lowest gross was 85 by Kevin Wiggins and the most golf played was 103 by Jeff Pearce.
Klaus is cut 9 strokes and myself 1 stroke.

Apres golf M&M was taken at the club house and good it was too and not too expensive although a minor cock-up with the billing occurred; the table of 5’s bill not being included when the whip round was made. A top-up of RM10 was needed and so Ray F & Andre owe RM10 next game. (the others on the table paid up).

This was John Laidley’s last game for a while and he did his best to get everyone pissed to mark the occasion. Thanks John. Enjoy the Gold Coast.
Next week we will play the new Palm Garden Golf Resort thanks to Ted Parslow.
This is an invitational game limited to 20 players and preference has been extended to recent regular attendees. With 18 names confirmed as of yesterday a further call went out Tuesday to all LC’s and now all 20 slots are filled. The list of players will be published under separate cover.
Watch this space for the 10th April venue.

Results – KGSAAS – 29th August 2011

16 Cannons teed it up at KGSAAS for the August Medal on another cool morning. After prolonged overnight rain the course was a bit soggy in parts and with some standing water Winter Rules were called. Light rain was still falling as we got started but this soon cleared and the sun came out on the back 9 but with a light breeze the conditions were near perfect. The course too was in fair nick but the greens were a little bumpy.
One wonders how long this course will remain an option with the owners in receivership and one of the 9’s doomed to housing development our playing days at this lovely Thompson layout may be limited.
Hans Berger, playing on his home course, was the winner with 40 points off the stick plus 3 bonus points and the runner-up was Andrew Robinson with 39 + 3. Lowest gross was 83 by Geoff Parslow and the most golf was played jointly by George & Vincent.
The M&M and prize giving was again at the Annex which didn’t meet with the approval of everyone but it’s good value and convenient for most. And as is usual, it was advertised ahead of time.

Results – KGSAAS – 2nd August 2011

15 Cannons made it to KGSAAS for this weeks game, arriving by 7.15 am for a very prompt start before 8.00 am.  And the first flights were in by 11.00, despite complaints of slow play by the 3-ball holding up the following 4-ball!  And the last flight in was very slow – and overtaken by a brace of flights of oriental wenches – Japanese or Korean?  The weather was superb with a light breeze and the course in very good nick.  And the scores were in the main most impressive.  WINNER was Raymond Keys with 93 off the stick for 41 points  and cut 5.  RUNNER-UP was Barry Cousins with 94 for 40 points and cut 1.  Lowest gross was Simon Compton with 86 and the most golf was enjoyed by Vincent Vijayan with 110.  Full results as follows:

1. Raymond Keys – 93/41
2. Barry Cousins – 94/40
3. Simon Compton – 86/39
4. Peter Edgworth – 92/39
5. Erol Akinci – 94/39
6. Andrew Robinson – 88/38
7. Aftab – 92/38
8. Glen Wombwell – 96/37
9. Tony Morris – 88/36
10. Bernhard Romahn – 102/31
11. Ray Funnell – 104/11
12. Klaus Kretschmar – 107/30
13. Jeff Pearce – 100/28
14. Vincent Vijayan – 110/27
15. Rick Brown – 106/26

Lunch was taken at the RSC Kiara Sports Annex and it evolved into a jolly good bash. Large quantities of beer, wine, mixed grills and other dishes were soon consumed.  And there was a rather odd run on fairy cakes from the new  Fruity Cake stall….  A couple of the more astute Cannons made there way downstairs for further libation….

Stuart’s Apology
I’m embarrassed to report that having committed to play at this week’s game, having meticulously laid out my golf kit and set my alarm for an early rise I failed due to one mistake ………. phone set to mute means your alarm does not sound! Hence I slept in passed the appointed time to get up and failed to make the venue at KGSAAS for my very infrequent appearance with the Loose Cannons group. A severe disappointment but of course things went on and the group I’m sure had a most enjoyable day out while I was resigned to head to the office for a rather un-fun day!

Report from Andrew Robinson
Cannons played on Monday this week to take advantage of the special MONDAY MADNESS deal on offer at KGSAAS.  However, just 8 of us competed for the months: TROPHY GAME

After Stuart overslept and Barry generously volunteered to drop out so as to leave 2 full flights instead of an awkward 3 x 3 balls…  The course was in good order with excellent greens, clement weather and no significant hold-ups. The winner with gross 91 for 38 points plus maximum bonus points was Andrew Robinson, and cut 4.  Runner-up was  Bernhard Romahn with gross 96 for 36 points. Tony Morrris had the lowest gross with 89 and Ray Funnell, got the best value for his money with 108 strokes. Full details:

1. Andrew Robinson – 91/38
2. Bernhard Romahn – 96/36
3. Simon Compton – 99/32
4. Richard Moss – 107/31
5. Tony Morris – 89/30
6. Ray Funnell – 108/29
7. Hans Berger – 98/27
8. Julian Purvis – 98/25

Mike Smith and Barry Cousins joined us for lunch – F&B was taken at the club and it was very ordinary – slow service (especially for fish curry), mediocre quality and high prices – including RM24++ for a large melon juice. And a rather odd preponderance of somewhat dreadful Maryland Chicken in evidence…?  Whilst it seems a sound idea to return to KGSAAS more frequently for the Monday deal, perhaps post-golf sustenance might be taken elseware?
