NILAI SPRINGS REPORT-12-03-2024

Cannon’s,

This year the Ramadan promotions are not as attractive as before with most of the clubs increasing prices and offering quite ridiculous”promotions”. Nilai at least offers a good offer and twelve of us were teeing off around 8:00 am from Mango’s hole 1 followed by the Pine’s nine. The course was in very good condition, dry and quite slow greens but all in good shape and well maintained. You can feel the adrenaline still on from the Batam tour reflected in the good scores and a good vibe on all of us. The winner today was Bernhard Romahn with a nice 82 for 40 points, followed by the improving hdc Markus Nijmeijer with a reasonable 113 for 39 points, and in third place was Iain Wise with a good 94 for 38 points, celebrating his game # 400, and following the LC tradition, Iain contributed with 400.00 Rm for your lunch bill. Thank you, Iain, and congratulations on your milestone with Loose Cannons. Ten of us had a good lunch at Sek Hao Fu restaurant in Nilai, just 3 km away from the golf course.

BATAM AWAY GAMES REPORT-04-03 TO 07-03-2024.

Cannon’s,

After seven years we are back in Batam for our first 2024 away games to celebrate the 20th anniversary of our society in great style. Our flight to Batam with Batik was a real mess. The first 3 weeks before the flight they moved the flight from Subang to Klia 1, canceled the flight back on the 8th, and rescheduled to the 9th at 16:10 pm, and after a few emails they changed again to 20:50 and on the same day with another email, changed again to 21:50 and finally we took off at 23:00 to Batam. With all these changes five of us decided to follow the flight, Roland, Chia, and David decided to drive to JB and take the ferry to Batam and Martin decided on the way back to KL to fly with Lion Air to Pekanbaru and from there take Air Asia flight to KL, but the connections had some problems, + he had to buy another ticket and the trip from Batam to KL took around 14 hours, so he had the longest flight from Batam to KL. Four of us decided to follow the flight on the 9th and all was good and normal, arrived safely in KL without the pilots falling asleep. One more thing about the flight from KL to Batam, not even one word from the captain, no apologies, complete silence which makes this flight quite strange procedure. Anyway, we all arrived safely in Batam, the hotel was nice, good deal with breakfast, a great location, and easy access to the main roads, walking distance to a duty-free shop, food court, ATM center, convenience shop, and even a Durian shop for the Durian lovers have a smelly snack. Six of us played a fun game at Batam Island (Old Tering Bay), The weather was not so hot, nice breeze, and a good layout even the fairways some parts had no grass, and a lot of bunkers, but overall were a nice morning to start the tour. On the way back we pick up at Batam Ferry Center, Roland, Chia, and David. The regular LC game for the March competition was held at Batam Hills, with very challenging first nine holes, and very difficult tee shots with narrow fairways with OB on the booth sides. The winner was Diederik Brinkman with a fantastic round of 90 for 43 points, the second was Josef Winter also with a nice score of 86 for 41 points, and in third place.

For the team competition, we had 3 teams, the Cordial Cannons Balls (Ricardo, Chia & Diederik), the Ngaws (Bernhard, Martin & David), and the Angry Birdies (Josef, Roland & Jan) with a combined stf from the 3 games BH< PS and PS). Very tied results with the Ngaws taking the first place with 289 points, second was the Angry Birdies with 285 points and the last one was the Cordial Cannons Balls with 286 points. The first away game was held at Padang Sukajadi, with nice weather, great fairways, and nice greens. Roland was the man with a nice 90 for 38 points followed again by Josef with a reasonable 90 for 37 points and in third place was Chia with 90 for 36 points. The final and second away game was at Palm Springs, a resort beach course with beautiful sea scenery, well-maintained, good caddies, and quite challenging nines (Palm & Island) with tricky tee boxes, difficult greens to put, and a lot and long bunkers. The winner with the best stf was David Cheung with 36 points and the winner of the Batam 2024 tour was Roland Steiner with a combined total of 75 points, followed by Josef Winter with a nice number, 69, and in third place was David Cheung with68 points.

IMPIAN REPORT-27-02-2024

Cannon’s,

Finally, we are back to Impian for the last game of the month. The weather was nice, blue sky, shiny with some breeze but not so hot as last week at Tasik. The course is always in good condition with nice fairways and great speedy greens. All three flights started on the tee box one and the first nine were a little slow with some slow flights in front of us, but fortunately, the second nine these 2 flights just disappeared and we had a good pace and finished before 12:30 and a good time to drive to our favorite restaurant on the East side of the highway. The winner today was again Ricardo Castro with a nice 79 for 35 points beating OCT Fritz for 1 point (Last 6 holes), and in third place was Roland Steiner (local member) with a razonable 95 for 33 points. With these results, Ricardo is the February champion (4th time in a row) with 74 points, in second place is Frans Bakker with 73, and in third place Bernhard with 68 points. Fritz Katzengruber had his birthday gift and Markus contributed 50.00 Rm for the lunch (Didn’t pass the lady’s tee), and we all appreciate the donation. Seven of us drove to the restaurant using the new highway and we reached the place in 20 min. Lunch was nice with cool beers and some watermelon juice. Next week we will be in Batam for our away tour and the regular game will be held at Batam Hills to open in style the March competition.

Cheers

Ricardo

TASIK PUTERI REPORT-20-02-2024

Cannon’s,

After more than one year we are back to playing Tasik Puteri. Finally, they decided to start using again the traditional booking system and not using MyGolf2you App, I think they realized they had been losing a lot of guests. Registration is now a pain in the ass because they need to input into the system one by one ID card for Seniors, get a code, print all the cards, and then I can pay, which took me around 20min. Also, the very small number of caddies, not like before, and course conditions are much worse than 3 years ago. I hope they can improve the course maintenance to recover the fairways otherwise, it will get worse and worse, but we did enjoy playing Tasik again. The weather was overcast most of the time with some breeze and only sometimes did the sun say hello, and was very hot for a moment. We welcomed Collin Lee for his first game and presented him with a welcome gift an LC sleeve of balls and we are looking forward to seeing him more times. The winner today was Ricardo Castro playing his hdc with 78 for 36 points, second place was our guest (because as a guest can’t be the winner), Collin Lee with a nice 95 for 37, and in third place was Iain Wise with a reasonable 98 for 34 points. With these results the February competition sees now Ricardo in first place with 74 points, followed closely by Frans Bakker with 73, and Bernhard close the top three with 68 points. Lunch at the club, Fritz contributed 150.00 Rm for the bill, celebrating his birthday in advance with us and he will get his gift next week. Batam trip is just around the corner, but before that, get ready for the last game of February at Impian.

Cheers

BKT UNGGUL REPORT-13-02-2024

Cannon’s

Always a pleasure to play Bkt Unggul, or you love it or you hate it. Course conditions were quite dry, nice weather with blue sky and sunny but with a pleasant breeze. All four flights started on hole 10 and we all finished at a normal time for lunch at the clubhouse. The winner today was Helmut with a good 91 for 37 points followed closely by Frans, Roland, Josef, and Hans Benn all with 35 points. With these results February competition Frans is leading with 73 points, in second place Bernhard with 67, and in third place Ricardo with 66, so still a lot to fight for the prize. Welcome back after a long absence, Bipan and Hans Benn and we all hope to see you guys more often. We also wish Frans safe travels and his PRO golf tour trip to Spain and the US.

Cheers

DANAU REPORT-06-02-2024

Cannons,

Back to Danau course and as expected, hole 11 near the green and hole 12 very very soggy and muddy, with some of us losing some balls, but overall was in acceptable conditions to play and have fun. We had four flights with a good crowd, flights 1 & 2 started on hole one, and flights 3 & 4 hole 10. We welcomed David Pearce for his third game and expect to see him again in June. Also back in Malaysia were Jan van Driel and Iain Wise after a few months out for different reasons. The winner today was David Cheung, beating OCB Frans Bakker and Ricardo Castro (Lowest gross) with 90 for 38 points, and in third place was Bernhard Romahn with 86 for 36 points. After the game 15 of us joined Chia and Andrew Robinson for our special lunch in a private room. After a fantastic lunch with a few signature dishes (well chosen by Ghia, thank you very much) we started the 2023 season prizes given separated into a few categories as, Most Monthly Victories, Most Weekly Victories, HDC Progress Top 6, Sponsors special gifts and the big one the LC of the year top 24. We also celebrated Tony Morris’s birthday with a nice gift for him and he contributed to our bill with 200.00 RM, and Markus kindly contributed 100.00 RM for his very short tee shot, thank you again for your support. Another two nice moments at this event were a special gift for Jan van Driel (Shirt, Commemorative plate & LC sleeve of balls) for his dedication, professionalism, organization skills as a convener for almost 3 years organizing the games, accounts, and our HDCPs, and the other special moment was for Josef Winter with very nice commemorative shirt, wooden commemorative plate and LC sleeve of balls for his hole in one at Seri Selangor on our 2024 first game, well-done booth of you. Thank you again to all the LC members who played through the year with a good performance and great friendship and of course a special thank you to our great sponsors, especially WL Chia, Siggy, and Pampas.

BANGI REPORT-30-01-2024

Cannon’s,

Back South again to play Bangi, and even with many Korean flights we managed to avoid them, starting on Bangi nine and crossing over to Kajang nine finishing in a good time before noon time. The weather was hot, dry, beautiful blue sky and course conditions were fantastic with the greens on the first nine quite fast and on the back nine slower. Today the star of the day was Ricardo Castro playing the course par of 71 for 44 points, making him the first LC member in 20 years to score the par beating the previous record of 76, also Ricardo (BKT Kemuning-28-11-203), and Andrew Chez (Palm Garden-29-08-2017). Second place was Frans Bakker with a magnificent 88 for 42 (after a driving range praticing session the day before) and in third place Siggy and Erol with a very nice score of 87 and 99, booths for 40 points. Actually, from the 11 players 8 scored below their hdc, which shows how good was the play today, congrats to everyone. With these results, Ricardo is the January Champion beating Bernhard on the line with a good score of 82 points, Bernhard with 79, and in third place Roland with a nice 76. So a great way to start the new season with this new record and a hole-in-one. After the game 10 of us rushed to our favorit restaurant in Kajang. For our “Swing for humanity” charity project we collect this month 560.00Rm, well done and thank you all for your kind contributions.

Cheers

KOTA SERIEMAS REPORT-23-01-2024

Cannon’s,

Back to South again to play Kota Seriemas, a nice and challenging course, especially the back nine, but this time quite soggy, but reasonable greens except for the green on Hole 1 par 5, full of sand and some machine damage on the surface, but overall was a nice morning. Three full flights started on time on Hole 1, and the first nine went quite fast, but for the back nine we were behind a jumbo flight, 2 Korean ladies’ flights, and in front of us a Malay flight………., what a combination of for 3/5 hours to play nine holes and on the top of that the weather was very hot, what turn our game sweetie and tiring. Bernhard was the winner again, following his impressive form with a 4th victory in a row, this time with 88 for 34 points, followed by Siegmund and Martin Booth with 33 points, and in third place was Markus with 126 for 30 points. With these results, Bernhard still leads the January competition with 79 points, followed closely by Roland with 76, and in third place Ricardo with 73 points. Reinli who came late because is late-night “business” meetings, and Bent had to leave for a real meeting, booth decided to stop playing, leaving the third flight with only two players. After the game nine of us rushed to the nearby restaurant Sek Hao Fu for a nice meal and cool beers, which really helped to kill our frustration. Thank you again to our sponsor Siggy, for offering a considerable quantity of LC sleeves of balls.

STAFFIELD REPORT-16-01-2024

Cannon’s

It is always a pleasure to play Staffield, besides the very slow registration at the counter with the same old system, it takes too long to check in 3 flights creating a long queue behind me. This time we played first Southern and second nine Northen nines and without any surprise the course was dry and very pleasant to play golf with nice greens. Mike Ravlich is now a full-LC member playing his 5th game with us and he got a deserved LC gift set for his accomplishment. Bernhard keeps his strong winning mood and for the third time in a row, he won again with a solid 84 for 39 points, beating Roland and Markus Booth with 36 points, and in third place was Ricardo with a reasonable 80 for 35 points. With these results, Bernhard is leading the January competition with 79 points followed in second by Roland with 76 and Ricardo with 73, so a lot to fight in the last two games. The weather was overcast but pleasant without any rain all morning.

AMVERTON REPORT-9-01-2024

Cannon’s

The second game of the new year was held at Amverton with very soggy fairways as I had never seen before. Even with these heavy conditions, the 11 brave LCs faced it without any fear with most of us scoring quite a good result and we all had some fun and a nice cooling morning except the last 4 holes. Bernhard beat Roland OCB with a tremendous 83 for 40 points and was in third place even though the lowest gross of 77 for 38 was not enough to beat the German contingent. After the game, we all stop at the usual seafood restaurant just after the bridge for a nice meal and cool beers and pineapple juice. Bernhard had his deserved winner prize, Ricardo got his prize as a December champion and Mike played his 4th game.
