Today the 10th of September we LCs played KGSAAS Alam Shah and President nines. We were down to nine players as Kevin has to pullout due to back injury. A lot of other LC were overseas as well.

Alam Shah was in excellent condition and the President almost as good. Weather yeah, less hazy at start more of it when we finished.

Winner of the day was Siegmund Maierbrugger with a score of 85 for 42 after a correction was made to Ricardo Castros’s incorrect score.

Results – Danau Golf Club – 3rd September 2019

A Tuesday which did not go according to plan;

The clubs administration tried to charge us almost 500Rm more than quoted in the first place, after a few phone calls to a manager they eventually honored the quoted price.

The course was in a good nick except for hole 12 and 13 which were soggy all the way from tee to the green. Some greens were hardly put-able if you were in the wrong place from the beginning. I suppose that’s what the pros mean by placing the ball for a possible birdie.

About 12-ish the lightning was building up in the distance but nothing really happen until it released a thunderbolt over us, immediately the siren came on. That was the end of the game and eleven of us went for the lunch at East of Highway.

It was quite a wide spread how many holes was left among the flights so we, or perhaps it was me, decided to have a lucky draw for the winner, Ted Parslow came out us the winner.

This lightning warning system they have does not make sense as the siren came on after the flash. So I went there today to address our concern. Eventually I got hold of a manager and we discussed it and he admitted that their system may not fulfill the needs of a proper warning system. Its is  just a small little yellow box in the reception area.

With Hans Berger out with a cold, we only had 14 players today at KGSAAS (or rather SAASGCC) under the careful organisation of Aftab Ahmad. We got off at 7:45am from tee boxes on President and Sultan courses with no holdups to talk about. Course conditions were good and the weather was pleasant. After the game, we had the usual pleasant lunch at the clubhouse.

Results

Our winner today was Ted Parslow with a score of 87 for 37 points, beating Stuart Taylor (84, 37 points) on countback. Best gross was Stuart Taylor with 84. Full results are tabulated below:

Results – Rahman Putra (The Hills) – 13th August 2019

We had only 2 flights today for our game at Rahman Putra. The Lakes course was closed for maintenance so we had to play The Hills alongside many of the walking golfers so it was a delayed start. We eventually got off at 8:35am. Weather was great and the course was in really great shape. It was a rather slow round due to the walking groups but all the same very pleasant. Lunch after the game was at the club where the food is good and the costs are very reasonable.

We welcomed back Hans Berger to the group after his long holiday in Sweden so he will take the helm again after Martin Belderink’s fine efforts over the last 5 weeks or so.

Results

The winner this week was Jan van Driel with a score of 97 for 34 points. Runners up were Martin Belderink and Josef Winter, both on 33 points. Best gross was Stuart Taylor with a 91. Full results below:

Results – Bukit Unggul – 6th August 2019

Today’s turn out was probably the lowest ever. After one more drop out we had 4 die hard’s playing one of the most bespoken courses in Malaysia; Bukit Unggul. And although I don’t agree with the ‘haters’ of the course I have to say that today the conditions were not great. There is always some wild boar damage but then you can place. But the greens on the back 9 were in a poor condition. Maybe that’s reflecting in the scores with today’s

Results

Winner Josef 94/34, followed by Bernard 88/33, myself 97/32 and Ricardo 100/18. It would have been an easy win for member Tony being absent because of illness.
Some facts of today: Bernard managed to do a 5 putt on hole 3, Ricardo lost 6 balls and his pride, myself again to many bunkers and OB’s and Josef marched into the lead after only scoring 11 points on the 1st nine.
Lunch after the game was at the club.

Results – Rahman Putra (The Lakes) – 31st July 2019

We only had 11 players this month for the Monthly Medal game at Rahman Putra. We played The Lakes with our 3 flights teeing off from Hole No 1 at around 8:00am. Course conditions were very good and the weather was extremely still and humid making it a little uncomfortable.

Tony Morris got off to a bad start today – taking a practice swing with his driver before teeing off on Hole No 1 the shaft broke so he had to make do for the round using his 3-wood to drive with which seemed to work pretty well.

We finished by 12:30pm and we all had lunch at the club – many thanks to Stan Constantinides (absent with injury) for his membership number so we could get the member discount for our lunch.

Results

The winner of the Monthly Medal for July was Ricardo Castro with 84 (best gross) for 35 on countback from Tony Morris who shot 90 for 35.

Results – Danau Golf Club – 23rd July 2019

It’s been a while since we played Danau Golf Club so with some good reports about the course condition we played there this week. We had 3 flights and 12 players and we all teed off on the back 9 holes at 8:00am.

The course has improved a lot since we last played so it’s nice to see the effort that has gone into this by the club. We also saw may workers out maintaining the course which is always a good sign. Weather was relatively cool so making it a pleasant round for everyone.

After the game, we had lunch at East of Highway Restaurant with 9 of the players attending.

Results

The winner today was Ricardo Castro with 81 (best gross) for 39 points. Runner up was Stan Constantinides with 91 for 36 points. Full results below:

Results – Amverton Golf & Island Resort – 16th July 2019

There were only 10 players today with many people away at this time of year. It was quiet so we started from 2 tee boxes and were not held up unduly. Weather was very cool with dark ominous clouds building up but which thankfully came to nothing.

The course was in fairly good condition and the greens had been recently scarified but were still relatively smooth and true.

We had lunch after the game at the Kang Guan Restaurant which was ok but not on par with some of the other restaurants we visit.

Results

Geoff McLaws was today’s winner playing to handicap with a score of 80 for 36 points. Runner up was Iain Wise with 94 for 35. Best gross of the day was Geoff McLaws with 80. Full results attached below:

Results – Bukit Kemuning Golf & Country Resort – 9th July 2019

Today we had only 11 players with 3 flights teeing off sharp before 8:00am. Given all the rain we had yesterday the course was in very good condition with minimal soggy patches. The greens were in very good shape and probably the best we have seen them to date.

The course was quiet this morning so we were all finished by around 12 noon. Weather conditions were very good and surprisingly cool for most of the round.

We had a good lunch at O&S restaurant after the game although the bill seemed rather more expensive than normal – maybe worth looking at alternatives or being a little more careful on what we order.

We were joined at lunch by Barry Cousins and Andrew Robinson.

Stuart Taylor had a “wardrobe malfunction” after the game with his change of clothes T-shirt ripping down one complete side. Not wanting to spend RM190 on a new shirt from the pro shop he boldly went to lunch in his used golf shirt much to the disgust of his adjoining members at the table whose nasal orifices were impinged upon.

Results

The winner again this week was Hans Berger with another great score of 96 for 41 points (did someone mention drug test!!). Runner up with a mere 86 for 36 points was Stuart Taylor. Full results below:
