Results – Seri Selangor – 19th January 2016

With the last minute withdrawal of Hans Berger with an ear infection (get well soon Hans) and Greg Sturgess lost but getting closer, 18 LC’s teed it up on a pleasant morning at Seri Selangor with Greg joining the fun at the 4th hole. The course was generally in good nick with fastish greens that were a little variable in speed making them very challenging. The down side was a lot of on-course drainage work and the White Tees being on the ladies tee box on all but one hole. Having said that it is indeed sad to note that, despite playing from the girls tees, only 3 players managed to better than their handicap. Seri Selangor proved once again to be a serious challenge for most of us.
Lunch was taken at Sun PJ Seafood with 15 attendees. The food was good but the steamed fish; although very good, was bloody expensive at RM234 for the 2 dishes!!! But everyone enjoyed the meal washed down with copious bottles of beer. And BTW, the prawns were awesome. Sorry to have to tell you that Hans!!!!

Results – Nilai Springs – 12th January 2016

We had a large turnout today at Nilai Springs with 24 players starting from the Mango nine then playing the Island nine on the return. Weather was hot and sunny and with the recent spell of dry weather the course was fairly dry but still in pretty good condition. With a 6 flight start on one nine and a few slower Korean players up front it was a slow round but we eventually all finished and then took lunch at the East of Highway Restaurant on the return to KL. We had 21 showing up for lunch so we had two tables at the restaurant – one of the best turnouts in a long while.

Welcome to a new player today, introduced by Mike Smith – Greg Sturgess.

Results

The winner today with 38 points and a gross of 89 was Tony Morris (cut 4) and the runner up was Jeff Pearce with 37 points (gross 92) Best gross of the day was Andrew Cseszko with 85. Full results below:

Kuala Lumpur Loose Cannons (KLLC)
Rules
1. KLLC play strictly to the Rules of Golf as published by the R&A and the USGA except as allowed by KLLC Local Rules published below.
Handicap
1. Each new player to join KLLC will play his FIRST game off his official USGA Handicap or his DECLARED Handicap. The Convenor may, at his discretion, assign a handicap.
2. New players will have to play 5 games to qualify for a KLLC handicap. New players cannot ‘win’ until they have completed the 5 mandatory games.
3. The WINNER each week will have his h/c cut by 4 strokes. Should he win his next KLLC game his h/c will be cut 8 strokes.
4. All other players that week will have 1 stroke added to their h/c up to a maximum of 3 strokes above their current USGA h/c as published by the KLLC official Handicap Monitor.
5. Handicaps are calculated according to the USGA Handicapping Formula. {(Adjusted gross score – USGA Course Rating) x 113 / USGA Slope Rating} will be used with a cap of 36.
6. Handicaps will be maintained using USGA approved software held and operated by the Handicap Monitor. Adjusted handicaps will be published each week.

1. Each week’s competition will be played on a Tuesday morning with a 08:00 starting time. Play will normally be from the WHITE TEES and scored to the Stableford System. Each player is responsible for returning his correct (adjusted) GROSS score to the appointed scorer. Results – KGSAAS – 5th January 2016

The first game of 2016 was held at KGSAAS with 19 players in 5 flights teeing off on the Sultan and Alam Shah 9’s under the command of our new Convenor, Mike Smith. The weather was good with clear skies making it rather hot and sticky by the time we concluded at around 1pm. The course was in good condition and I didn’t hear any complaints from anyone – if we were to be picky there were a couple of greens under repair with some patches but otherwise the greens were very good.
We took lunch at the excellent Pantai Seafood which is great value for money and with the RM50 added into the pot from the winner (thanks Ray!) who wasn’t there to collect it and the added bonus of Alan Holgate buying the beers to celebrate his 80th Birthday it was a rather cheap lunch. Many thanks Alan for your kind drinks purchase – we all look forward to the Big 90th Bash!
Results
The winner today was Ray Funnell with 39 points and a gross of 95 and the runner up was Stuart Taylor with 38 points and the best gross of the day of 84. Under the new “Social Golf Rules” Ray will be cut by 4 strokes and all other players will go up 1. Full results below :

Results – Amverton Cove – 29th December 2015

For the last Loose Cannon’s game of 2015 and the Trophy Game for December we played at Amverton Cove. We originally had 4 full flights but due to tow last minute pull-outs we had 14. We teed off on split 9’s and the pace was very good for the first 9 holes …. after the turn some Tan Sri and local sultan had cut in in front of the groups and the last 9 holes were rather slow. However the course was in good shape and the weather was fine.
Post game we ate lunch at the usual restaurant at the bridge close to the club – food was good (well ordered Iain Wise) and a suitable quantity of liquid amber was consumed.
Ray Funnell will be resigning as Convenor – many thanks Ray for all the good work this year – and Mike Smith will be taking over the helm as of 1st 2016 aided by myself, Stuart Taylor, to do the handicapping and Iain Wise to do the monies.
Results
Our December Trophy winner was Jeff Pearce with an excellent 40 points (gross of 88) with Geoff McLaws runner up (again!) with the best gross of the day of 77 and 39 points. Full results below:

Results – Bukit Unggul – 22nd December 2015

14 golfers wearing their Xmas hats and some smiles (pics attached) started a little late as a result of a bad accident on the highway, which delayed several players. Weather was excellent , course played well . The course was busy, which caused a slow back 9.

The winner, with an excellent 81 for 45 points was Tony Morris.  Well done. Bernard Rohman also had a 81 but for 40 points. Bernard scored 36 gross on the front 9. ….wheels “juddered” on the back. Full results below:

Tony kindly donated his winnings into the pot– Must be Xmas.. !!   Ray put in some vouchers and a cheap lunch and beers was enjoyed by those that stayed.

Loose Cannons Annual Xmas Lunch – Coliseum Cafe – 16th December 2015

Once again the Loose Cannons group descended upon the Coliseum in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman for the annual Xmas luncheon. We had 19 attendees who assembled in the bar for pre-lunch drinks prior to moving through to the rear to our lunch table. Andrew Robinson made some excellent opening remarks with a toast to departed friends (Murray Preston and Gordon Wingate and setting out the ground rules for the day’s festivities. Various dress code fines were administered as was a fine for the worst bottle of wine brought along (well done Robert Mulliss!).
It was interesting to note that the cumulative age of the 19 attendees was 1,234 years making the average age of the Loose Cannons group attending 65.
Lunch was the usual fare (prawn cocktail, pumpkin & carrot soup, steak pie and ice cream) washed down with much wine and some whisky to finish off. During the course of the lunch we were entertained by numerous jokes and songs by the group, many of which we had heard before, but were none-the-less most welcome.

Below are some photos from the day’s festivities …. which look remarkably like the photos from the year before …. and the year before that ……

Please scroll down for the special Holiday Season Trailer and the full movie of all the gory details of the Loose Cannons Xmas Lunch … if you dare!!

Results – Staffield Country Resort – 15th December 2015

We played Staffield this week mainly to guarantee good playing conditions due to the heavy rain over the lsat week or so which made many courses wet and boggy. Staffield was in great condition even after the very heavy and continuous rain of yesterday. The weather was good with clear blue skies. We had 4 full flights today as we headed out on the North and West courses all finishing in good time by 12:30pm. We then adjourned up the road to our usual East of Highway Restaurant for a good lunch and a few needed cold ones.

Welcome to two new players today …. Mahmud Mohamed and Tim Douglass.

Results

Peter Davies joined us for his second game this year and like the first time he won again with an excellent gross 90 (his best personal score to date) and 41 points. Runner up was Mike Smith with 39 points and a gross of 91 …. he will need to work harder to shoot his age but going by his spirit and health he stands a good chance of doing this. 3rd place was Barry Cousins with a great 38 (gross of 102), probably aided by his recent steroid injection for his knees! Best gross of the day was Geoff McLaws with and 82. Full results below:

Results – Kota Permai Golf & Country Club – 8th December 2015

We had 5 full flights with 20 players this morning at Kota Permai enjoying the special December green fees rate. Weather was good and the course was in pretty good shape with only small areas being a little wet. The greens as per usual were fast but true. We were almost all finished by 12:30 … but the last group (my group) were caught on the final hole with the rain stop siren and could not complete the hole till 30 minutes later. We took lunch at the nearby O&S Restaurant (many thanks to Barry Cousins for doing the arrangements). We took the opportunity also to celebrate Mike Smith’s 77th Birthday and he kindly picked up the beer bill for the day …. many thanks Mike.

Geoff McLaws was our winner today with an excellent best gross of 77 and 39 points …. on count back from Charles Blanchet who also shot 39 points. Full scores below :

Results – Nilai Springs Golf & Country Club – 1st December 2015

Weather conditions were really good for today’s game at Nilai Springs with 15 Loose Cannon’s players heading out on Pine and Island 9’s at 8:00am. The course was somewhat wet and boggy in places but the greens were in great shape. Being in the first 3-ball we finished early but the other 3 flights of 4 took a little longer held up by some other players on the course.
We had lunch at the East of Highway Restaurant with 10 of us making it there for a slightly over-ordered volume of food.
Welcome to Mike Smith’s guest today, David Evans, who has just retired so may be joining us more often now.
