Results – Nilai Springs Golf & Country Club – 14th February 2012

Cannons all,
Nearly all of them turned up Tuesday at Nilai Springs!
26 golfers; a record turnout for Loose Cannons, pitched up on a cloudless morning and with a good breeze blowing throughout it was perfect conditions to enjoy this very well maintained golf course. Playing the Island & Pines nines some good scoring was anticipated and so it turned out.
Nilai really is a good venue these days. The whole layout is well groomed and a delight to play. Even the Makan has improved and at least you can eat in relative comfort in nice surroundings. Well done NS.
The winner was Jeff Pearce with an outrageous 48 points and the R/U was Klaus Kretzschmar with an almost outrageous 45 points. The lowest gross was 79 by Geoff Parslow and the most golf was jointly played by Charlie & Alan with 118.
Jeff is cut 12 and Klaus the mandatory 1 stroke, lucky bugger.
Most of us stayed for the lunch which was good with 3 full tables of LC’s. See pics attached. With a contribution to the pot from a couple of early leavers we were left with a surplus of RM170. Good day all round.
One item of note {which I intended to announce at the table but forgot (a senior moment perhaps)} was that Tony Morris recently became our second member to pass the 250 games milestone. Congratulations Tony.
Another item was Bernhard leaving his phone at the club. NS called Tony to so advise. Kudos to NS staff for their honesty.

Cannons all,
The day didn’t start well with my alarm going off at 7am instead of the intended 6am and it didn’t improve much as I hooked my first drive OB kind of setting the trend for most of the next 17 holes. But if my problems were bad they paled into insignificance compared to Andre who spent most of the morning touring south Selangor visiting places like Kajang, Putrajaya, Staffield and Nilai old town en route to joining us at the 9th. And to make matters worse he paid for his round TWICE. Andre. You owe Erol RM100.

NS was in good condition and with buggy on fairways for the most part the 12 LC’s were all round in good time. The winner of the Monthly Medal was Bernhard Romahn with 38 points off the stick and 4 bonus points giving him a total of 42 points. The runner-up was Tony Morris with 37 & 4 for 41. The best gross was shot by Ted Parslow with 83 and the most golf was played by Alan Holegate. Bernhard is cut 4 and Tony 1. The full results and your adjusted H/C’s can be found in tha attachment.

A word on Handicapping. Simon claimed that his H/C, advised as 19, should have been 20 since he played off 19 last week. In my haste to get to the first tee I had left the Data Sheet in my locker so couldn’t dispute this. Simon, you were capped at 20; your USGA H/C being 17.
Tony protested that he should not have come second since Ray Funnell also had 37 off the stick and 27 on the back 9. Unfortunately Tony, the monthly medal game uses the “Bonus Points” to calculate the positions and on that basis you were second and you are indeed cut 1.

A LOOSE CANNONS Milestone. Last week Andrew Robinson became the first Loose Cannon to reach 250 games which I’m sure you will agree is a significant achievement. In recognition of this a small ‘one off” award is being arranged and will be presented to Andrew later this month.

Watch this space for next weeks game.

Results – Nilai Springs – 18th August 2011

With many of our regulars away with Wigs at Hua Hin and a couple of late casualties, only 6 mustered at Nilai Springs on a perfect morning for a game of golf on a course in excellent condition. Roger Smith put in a cameo appearance which was noteworthy by having to play the last few holes of the front 9 with a clenched arse. Duly relieved, he showed us that he can still play the game on the second 9.
Erol Akinci was the winner with 39 points with Hans Berger r/u with 36 points. As Erol won last time out he is cut 8 strokes and Hans the mandatory 1 stroke.
The makan was not great but with Rick using his members privilage and Roger buying a couple of jugs it was very affordable and were left with a surplus of RM7.
A folded bundle of RM notes was found after most had departed. Anyone missing some money?

Cannons all.
Another small turnout this week with only 7 LC’s at Nilai Springs which was a pity since the course was in excellent order with firm, fast greens. Despite a rare weather interruption of some 40 mins. we were all round in good time.
Ray Funnell was the winner with 41 points, cut 5, and Mike Smith was r/u with 40 points, cut 1. The lowest gross was 87 from Simon Compton and the most golf was played by Richard Moss.
A welcome was extended to a new Cannon; Jeff Pearce.

After so much rain recently NS was very wet and with buggies restricted to the cart paths it was a slow round. With light rain falling for the opening few holes the 12 Cannons and 2 guests enjoyed pleasant if rather wet conditions on a course that continues to improve with a well trained maintenance staff. My friend Maurice Murphy from Waterford was very impressed but struggled to play to his ability with borrowed clubs and the heat. Julian’s guest Alistair Geddes played to his declared handicap and threatens to be a regular player.
The winner was Julian Purvis with the lowest gross of 88 and 44 points and the runner-up was Paul Jayaraj with his lowest ever gross of 89 for 42 points. Julian is cut 8 and Paul the mandatory 1 stroke.
NS used to be one of the better M&M courses but the food this time was pretty poor and the bill a hefty RM732. There was a carry over of RM20 and for the record Cannons now have a float of RM469.
