Next week we will play TASIK PUTERI and afterwards go to the EQUATORIAL RESTAURANT to celebrate Alan Holgate’s 75th birthday.  For oenophiles, BYO.  Doubtless Alan will dig out some fine bottles from his extensive cellers…..  Please let me know asap if you intend to play and be there by 7.30am latest.

Results – Tasik Puteri – Monday 30th August

7 golfers assembled at Tasik Puteri for the August Medal. Erol dropping out at the last minute due to illness. We played the Tasik nine first followed by Putera. The greens were very poor, in particular on the Putera nine. Cannons should seriously consider not playing here again until the greens have been fixed.

Barry Cousins won the trophy with a gross of 97 and 43 points (after bonus point adjustment) Hans Berger was runner up with 92 for 40 points. After deducting bonus points Barry will be cut 4 and Hans 1. Best gross was Hans (92) and most golf was me with 112. (A fitting end to my Cannons career!!)

Scores:

1. Barry Cousins                  97 gross                43 points
2. Hans Berger                    92                         40
3. Ray Funnell                     98                         35
4. Vincent Vijayan              104                         33
5. Ian Geekie                     102                         31
6. Mike Hughes                  112                         30
7. Glen Wombwell              103                         28

Four of us proceeded to Equatorial for M&M but were joined by Andrew, Dick and Mike Smith where we enjoyed a good lunch and liquid refreshments. The highlight (for me) was Barry Cousins awarding me his trophy – for not receiving a prize at Bukit Utama on my only win in over 60 appearances. Whatever the reason the gesture was very much appreciated and will leave me with a good memento of Loose Cannons.

Finally, I would like to say how much I have enjoyed playing with the group over the last two years and will try to get out again when I return to KL on holiday.

Mike will be appointing another temp convenor and, hopefully, will soon be out and about on the course with you.

Attendance was back to normal with 12 golfers.  Weather perfect and there were no hold-ups on the course -which was in good condition throughout. Zach Preston was welcomed, and at 14 years of age put some of us oldies to shame!  And Barry’s back held out for a full round. Note from Editor : Great to see Kevin Wiggins back out ….. and played to his handicap!!

A few photos from Assistant Editor & Pro Tem Photographer!

Bernhard takes it steady!

In case you are wondering:-  Does It Look Like I Give A F*ck?

Only one ball on the green on the Par-3 17th, and yes I did par it!

How does my ball end up like this two weeks running?

Yes indeed – my ball, clearly marked!

Is Bernhard dejected & will Tony’s belt stand the strain?

Winner Boy & Proud Son (no not me, the young lad Zac on the right)!

Looks like Mike is still hungry!!

After the game and appropriate ablutions we will head straight for the ever dependable Equatorial Restaurant for prize giving, makan, minum dan lain lain.  Cannons nursing bad backs and broken bones are welcome to join us for lunch…

Results – Tasik Puteri – 1st June 2010

Only 10 Cannons turned out Tuesday at a rather quiet Tasik Puteri. We played the 2nd & 3rd nines (in reverse order) which were in very good order and most found it a stiff test. I don’t know what’s going on at TP but they are making some subtle changes to the course with the result that it’s no longer the benine track it once was. They have nice new buggies and a lot of new maintenance equipment and the rough is being thickened and lengthened to punish any wayward drives. With fairly quick greens and some devilish pin positions it was a real challenge.

The winner with 38 points was Hans Berger; cut 4 strokes and the runner-up Peter jackson with 37 points; cut 1 stroke. The lowest gross was Joe Zorich with 88 and the most golf was played by Tom Holmes.

After the game we retired to the Equatorial where the usual excellent makan was enjoyed. There was however one absentee; Bernard Rohmahn. Bernard has a directional problem as we all know but this takes the biscuit. Having asked to follow Andrew because he wasn’t sure of the directions (actually he has been to the Equatorial before) he did so until the penultimate set of lights at which point Andrew indicated right and turned into the Petronas station to avoid the trafffic tail back ahead but Bernard didn’t follow and was never seen again. Where did you go Bernard? So that we can contact you and “talk you down” in the future please let us know your mobile # as we missed your company and you missed a good lunch.

Results – Tasik Puteri Golf & Country Club – 6th April 2010

After a slow start due to congestion on the first tee boxes the Loose Cannons 5 flights (total of 17 players) got under way under pleasant conditions. Course conditions were good and the greens were all in very good condition. Later in the morning however things did get rather hot and humid.

An excellent lunch was subsequently enjoyed at Equatorial Restaurant on the outskirts of Rawang with a surprisingly few bottles of beer consumed (4)! Not like the good old days of 24 bottles plus.
Winner of the day was Benhard Rohman who shot a gross 92 with a massive 46 points (cut 10 strokes) and runner up was John Preston with 37 points (cut 1). Best gross was Tony Morris and worst gross was Glen Wombwell.
