Revised Xmas Lunch Programme – Coliseum Cafe – 10th December 2010

Cannons all.
We have 10 signed up as I write but are hoping for several more. From the feedback I am getting some of you are baulking at the “mandatory” requirements and others are wondering why we aren’t getting turkey, roast spuds, Christmas pudding etc. etc.
Well, the Coliseum don’t and won’t do Turkey etc., so we have to make do with what they do provide which has a certain colonial nostalgia about it and happens to be quite good fare.  For those of you who believe you are too grown up to wear a santa hat in public or too wimpish to stand up and in some way entertain your friends for a couple of minutes, even if it’s only to wish them merry Christmas, I have softened the programme as modified in green below.
So now get your finger out and sign up for the inaugural Cannons Christmas Lunch.

Commentary
The 13 registered players were joined at the course by Maurice, a guest of
Glenn’s, making 14 players in 2 flights of 4 and 2 of 3. Aftab was a guest of
Hans and has given his signaling details for inclusion in the weekly
circulation. Darren from Norwich was introduced by Tom as a visitor. 5 Premier
vouchers and 1 SSG card were used to reduce the overall cost, for the general
benefit which was much appreciated by all attendant Cannons.

The clement conditions of Bukit Tinggi were found to be very conducive and the
Berjaya Hills course was in tiptop condition. Indeed some Loose Cannons
expressed a desire to return next Tuesday. The first flight of 3 teed off at
0800 precisely and caught up with a Korean 4 ball at the 8th who waited by the
9th tee to wave the 3 ball through. A leisurely round was completed at 1130
with little sign of other golfers, before adjourning to the lounge to await
the other 3 flights. Noon and noon thirty came and went as did a couple of
buckets of tiger. At 1300 the Korean flight appeared at the 18th tee. Shortly
after they finished their round our 3 ball appeared at the 18th tee and
eventually by 1330 Cannons assault of the course had been accomplished. The
Oldest Member made some comments about slow play in his flight.

11 intrepid golfers then adjourned to Kampong Bukit Tinggi to consume 220RM of
makan and 214 of minum, mostly Tiger. There being no pig knuckle available
Pork Ribs, Venison x2, S&S Chicken, Butter Prawns, Yam Basket, Baked Bringel
and Egg Fau yu x3 were served and as the members considered the price
excessive the landlord provided 2 large bottles of Tiger gratis.

With ProTem Convener Twan Andrew returning from Half Term Hols this week we
await his decision on the course for Tuesday Kajang Hills was mooted.

Lunch was taken at the Equatorial Restaurant where we celebrated Alan Holgate’s birthday – only 25 more years to go for a telegram from the Queen…..!  Alan generously donated RM100 to the kitty and a bottle of Oban Single Malt Whisky which was soon polished off – once the cork had been extracted!  Reinli kindly donated a bottle of Chivas adn several bottles of wine were in evidence alongside the beer, juices and so on.  Mike made a short address to Birthday Boy and we all stood and sang Happy Birthday, with certain Tony Morris embellishments.  Alan then responded with a very long-winded speech – ‘thankyou!’  There was one bottle of wine and half a bottle of Chivas left over and these have been added to the Cannons cellers for future consumption.

The were a couple of instances of late arrivals to mention.   Richard overslept and arrived an hour late at the course so missed the first couple of holes.  And Mohamed circumnavigated Rawang Town a few times on his way to the Equatorial…..  And Mike and Dick, who joined us for lunch, had apparently been shuttling backwards and forwards through tunnels on the way to the Equatorial?  They really should all instal Garfields?

The PINK LADY CHAMPIONSHIP on Friday 29 October has attracted 9 Cannons who have now all paid Reinli. On the day those over 55 will play off the white tees and Tom will play off the back tees!
The XMAS LUNCH is slated for Friday 10 December at the Coliseum and Mike/Andrew will progress matters accordingly.
