Results – Tasik Puteri Golf & Country Club – 17th April 2012

Cannons all,

Tasik Puteri was in excellent condition or should I say the course was in excellent condition; the management less so. With 2 flights sent to the Tasik 9 which was advertised as OPEN and so confirmed by the lady Starter, we were informed on the first tee by a Bangla grass cutter that it was closed and this was later confirmed by the giggling Starter, but with one flight already approaching the first green the damage had already been done. By the time we back tracked to the Puteri 9 several other flights were already waiting and we were delayed, eventually starting on the 6th.

With very nice weather and good playing conditions the 15 LC’s that turned up enjoyed a relatively low scoring round.
The winner was Andrew Robinson with 43 points and the runner up was Tony Morris with 40 points. The lowest gross was 85 by Geoff McLaws and the most golf was played jointly by Ray Funnell and Barry Cousins who both shot 109. Andrew is cut 7 strokes and Tony 1 stroke.
The full results can be found in the attachment.

Apres golf M&M was taken at the Equatorial where the food was at it’s usual high standard but only enjoyed by 10 LC’s.

Results – Kajang Hills Golf Club – 10th April 2012

Just 11 Cannons mustered at Kajang Hills for a most enjoyable mornings golf.  The weather superb, the course very quiet and in pretty good nick, especially the greens, although ‘off piste’ the course is showing a lack of TLC…

Winner with an excellent 84 off the stick and 46 points was Hans Berger, and CUT 10!!. Runner up OCB was Barry Cousins with 98 for 40 points, adn cut 1.  Han’s 84 was the lowest gross and Klaus amassed the most gross!  Full results as follows:

1.  Hans Berger – 84/46
2.  Barry Cousins – 98/40
3.  Tony Morris – 91/40
4.  Ray Funnell – 101/36
5.  Vincent Vijayan – 103/36
6.  Andrew Robinson – 94/35
7.  Iain Wise – 97/34
8.  Richard Moss – 107/32
9.  George Murray – 107/30
10. Jeff Pearce – 103/28
11. Klaus Kretschmar – 108/22

Luncheon was part of the deal and it was very good. And very little amber nectar was consumed with various fruit concoctions very much to the fore. Having collected RM130 pp beforehand – this turned out to be enough for the morning, all but RM14 which the stand-in leader for the
day generously funded…

Next weeks game will be announced in the fullness of time when Mike returns from walkabout…

Results – Palm Garden Golf Result – 3rd April 2012

Palm Garden Golf Resort has to be one of the best golf courses I have had the pleasure to play……anywhere. Truly superb.

Designed and constructed by LC member Ted Parslow this is another example of Ted’s amazing talent and must rank as the equal to KLGCC, if not better.
Thanks to Ted & Geoff Parslow Loose Cannons were invited by the IOI management to play this masterpiece ahead of the official opening and 24 LC’s took up the challenge and a challenge it was. The course is not long, 5780m, and for this reason we played from the Blues but with the steep elevation changes and the enormous amount of beautifully landscaped water features it proved to be very challenging indeed as can be seen from (most of) the scores. The playing surface throughout was pristine with hybrid Zoysia fairways and undulating and deceptively fast Bermuda Tidwarf greens. The bunkering is spectacular in appearance but very playable thanks to the grade of white sand used and the shaping. Fantastic.
The winner, making a rare appearance with us since his return to gainful employment, was Tom Holmes with an outrageous 47 points. The runner up was David Hughes with 39 points. The lowest gross was 81 by Geoff Parslow (this gives you some idea of the degree of difficulty) and the most golf played was 121 by George Murray just returned from several months away.
Tom is cut 11 strokes and David 1 stroke.
The full results can be found in the attachment.
Apres golf M&M was taken at the club house which like the rest of this resort is brand new and of very interesting design. The service was a tad slow due to the ongoing training of the staff but the food, when it came, was good and not too pricy. There was a minor altercation over billing of unpaid breakfast bills but this was resolved without problem.
Soon after we finished the heavens opened big time and Ted was able to witness the drainage of his masterpiece from the veranda of the restaurant which overlooks the course. This was amazing. The 18th green was completely flooded yet within minutes of the rain easing up, not stopping you understand, just easing up, the water just vanished. The other point of interest was that the sand in the bunkers stayed in place on the steep slopes with no water collecting in the bottom of the bunkers.
Once the heaviest rain eased up some made a run for it including Kevin. Some 15 minutes later Kevin reappeared in the restaurant looking like a drowned rat. Soaked to the skin he explained that he followed the temporary access road but found a section flooded. Thinking the water to be shallow he drove on but was quickly afloat! Others in 4×4’s passed him, their bow wave making his predicament worse. Abandoning his car he walked back to the clubhouse through returning heavy rain. Later his car was retrieved by the IOI staff less it’s number plate which I believe Jeff has. The floor mats are no doubt drying on Kevins veranda as you read this.
This was David Hughes last game for a while and he generously presented the winner with a bottle of single malt. Bon voyage David and see you next year.

Results – KGSAAS Tuesday 27th March

18 golfers teed it up at KGSAAS in overcast cool weather on a course in superb condition. After 4 holes there was a half hour rain delay but once play resumed it remained cool and fair for the rest of the round and with light traffic we were all round in good time. KGSAAS is a very nice golf course and with the promotion package currently available we will play here more often.
Iain Wise was a welcome returnee from the sands of Dubai together with occasional visitor Andy Morrow.
The winner of the March Medal was Klaus Kretzschmar with 45 points off the stick plus 3 bonus points for 48 points. The runner up was myself with 43 + 3 = 46 points. The lowest gross was 85 by Kevin Wiggins and the most golf played was 103 by Jeff Pearce.
Klaus is cut 9 strokes and myself 1 stroke.
The full results can be found in the attachment or at the the Loose Cannons Blog at http://loosecannonskl.blogspot.com/

Apres golf M&M was taken at the club house and good it was too and not too expensive although a minor cock-up with the billing occurred; the table of 5’s bill not being included when the whip round was made. A top-up of RM10 was needed and so Ray F & Andre owe RM10 next game. (the others on the table paid up).

This was John Laidley’s last game for a while and he did his best to get everyone pissed to mark the occasion. Thanks John. Enjoy the Gold Coast.
Next week we will play the new Palm Garden Golf Resort thanks to Ted Parslow.
This is an invitational game limited to 20 players and preference has been extended to recent regular attendees. With 18 names confirmed as of yesterday a further call went out Tuesday to all LC’s and now all 20 slots are filled. The list of players will be published under separate cover.
Watch this space for the 10th April venue.
