Results – KGSAAS – 18th August 2015

KGSAAS was in good shape as 3 full flights tee’d off on the President 9 at 8:00am. Greens were very good but a little slow. It was a lovely morning but it started to get very hot and humid by the back 9. We all had lunch at the club following the game and struggled as usual with the very poor service to get our food and drinks – far better up the stairs at the Chinese restaurant.

Our winner today was Geoff McLaws with 37 points and a best gross of the day of 80. Runner up was Allan Wright with 36 points and a gross of 98. Full results below:

Results – Bukit Unggul – 11th August 2015

There were only 10 of us today at Bukit Unggul. After a short wait to start as they had all flights starting on Hole No 10 today we were soon underway and were not duly held up after this. Weather was great and the course was in good shape even with recently sanded greens. After the game we took lunch at the clubhouse and again sadly let down by the quality of the food and the slow and poor service …… some things never change.

The winner today with an excellent 40 points was Glenn Wombwell and runner up was Stuart Taylor with 39 points and the best gross of the day of 81. Full results below :

Results – Danau Golf Club – 4th August 2015

It was quite busy at Danau this morning but after an efficient and problem free check in we all teed off at around 8:10 to 8:30 from the 1st 9. The first 3 holes at this course are very testing and the tough nature of this course was certainly obvious in the scores posted. Conditions were good, the weather relatively cool and the course was in good condition. Greens were very tricky though especially with the slopes and quite fast speed – on one green all 4 of us putted off the green! This is a relatively cheap course as well making it quite an economical outing.
We retired to the Restoran East of the Highway post game for some great food and much needed cold beers. We gave our thoughts of speedy recovery to Mike Smith as we tucked into our special plate of spare ribs a’ la Smith!

Results

Scores were not dramatic today as expected at this course with only one player breaking his handicap. The winner with 37 points (gross of 98) was Brian Stubbs and the runner up was Barry Cousins with an on-handicap round of 36 points (gross of 102). Best gross of the day was Stuart Taylor with an 88. Results – Impian Golf & Country Club – 28th July 2015

Report
This was the monthly trophy game for July and we had 3 full flights with one guest. Weather was very good and the course was in great shape although most people complained about the slow greens.  The white tees were not present today so we all played off the blue tees with the exception of Andrew Chez who used the rear black tees.
Shot of the Day goes to Stuart Taylor who was inaugriating his new 56 deg sand wedge and the first time he used it was on the 9th hole where he played the very first virginal shot with this club and hole the ball for a sandy birdie!
We were not unduly held up and were back in the clubhouse around 12pm or after. Mike Smith had decided that given the usual traffic congestion on the way to the usual Seafood restaurant we would head over to East of Highway Restaurant for lunch. It was ironic that Mike missed the SILK turnoff and then spent a full hour to find his way eventually to the restaurant were everyone sees was safe installed partaking of the amber ale.
Thanks to Allan Wright for sponsoring the final batch of extra beers!

The winner today for the July Trophy (and his very first Cannons win) was Allan Wright with 38 points and a gross of 96. Well done Allan. Runner up was Rein Li tan with 37 points and a gross of 90. Bets gross of the day goes to Andrew Chez with an 85. Full results below :

Results – Tasik Puteri Golf & Country Club – 21st July 2015

Report

It was a beautiful, still and slightly overcast morning at Tasik Puteri with 13 players heading out onto the Puteri and Putera nines – should have been 15 but we had a no-show from ReinLi Tan. The weather was cool for the first nine holes but it soon warmed up for the back 9. The course was playing well and in good condition, the greens had been hollow tined but were running very well.  The tee boxes however were in much need of cutting and repair. With 3 x 3-balls and 1 x 4 ball we were finished within 4 hours then headed to the usual restaurant back on the road to Rawang for food and drinks.
Results
There were some good scores today with over half the field shooting to handicap or better. In 3rd place was Brian Stubbs with 39 points (gross 97), 2nd place was Allan Wright, 40 points (gross 94), but the clear winner was Stuart Taylor with an excellent 44 points (gross 78) equaling his best round to date which was just shot last week at Bangi. Best gross was Stuart Taylor with 78. Full results tabulated below :

Taking advantage again of the good Ramadan rate we played at Sungai Long again with 14 Loose Cannons turning up for the morning’s fun. The course was in great shape with excellent greens.  The weather was overcast and muggy.
Welcome to our two new guests today; Cameron McAinsh and Kevan Bartley – we hope you can join us on a more permanent basis.
Lunch was at the nearby KenWell Seafood Restaurant in Balakong which was as always excellent.

Results – IOI Palm Garden – 7th July 2015

16 golfers played IOI Palm Garden in excellent weather; some finding this beautiful course harder than others as can be seen by the scores.
Registration was simple and efficient and we all got off on the 10th in good time. Due to the heavy early morning rain buggies were restricted to the cart path for the first 5 holes which was not appreciated by our returning friend Ray Funnell, but thereafter it was buggy on fairway. Welcome back Ray.
This is truly a gem of a golf course and a delight to play. Congratulations to it’s creator, our own Ted Parslow, and to the management of Palm Garden and it’s manager Brandon Chin, on a job well done. Considering the course is only 3 years old it is already very mature.
Thanks also to Reinli (which phone should I use next) Tan for rounding up some of his golfing friends to swell the numbers. They were a pleasure to play with and will be welcomed back.
Despite a couple of non playing Cannons mailing their reservations about the cost, all those playing today thought it money well spent. The lunch was good (albeit a little slow) and much amber nectar was downed making it a very enjoyable 19th hole. Making use of the Ramadan offers we will hopefully play another of the premier courses next week. The Mines is the preferred choice but watch this space for confirmation.
Of note was our winner Geoff McLaws trip to Retoran East of Highway where he duly organised the table and ordered beer before the penny dropped and he checked his email before returning to the club, beer in hand.

Gordon Wingate Memorial Trophy – Tropicana Golf & Country Resort – 1st July 2015

The 2nd Gordon Wingate Memorial Trophy golf competition was held again at Tropicana Golf & Country Resort with 6 flights teeing off on the East 1 and West 9 nines at just after 8:00am. There were golfers from the Loose Cannons group, The FRID’ Eggs group, the ladies LEGS group and some friends of Nancy who came from Dubai.
Course conditions were good albeit a bit of a mixed bag between the two nines played. The East 1 course had obviously recently had the greens hollow tined and were quite bumpy and somewhat slow. Even the fairways were not in their usual immaculate condition. The West course however had lightning fast greens which caught everyone unaware.
Weather was good and everyone was back in the clubhouse by just after 1pm in time for the lunch held at the Spring Garden Chinese Restaurant. Nancy Wingate made a thank you speech followed by the presentation of the prizes and raffle ticket winners by Peter Davies.
Many thanks to all he participants for this annual competition and a big thank you to all those kind donations of money and prizes for the day. Any excess monies will be donated to the Malaysian Heart Foundation, a charity chosen by Nancy Wingate.

Results – Templar Park – 30th June 2015

Only 7 LC’s played the June Trophy Game at Templer Park today which was  a pity because the course was in good condition save for some of the bunkers that had recently been re-sanded and were very soft. The weather too was great for golf and since there were few people playing, we were round in good time. But once again this course was the winner as can be seen from the scores below.

Paul Geddes          87 / 36

Allan  Wright          103 / 33

Mike Smith             99 / 32

Andrew Chez         88 / 24 OCB

Bernhard Romahn 98 / 24

Roger Surieux       122 / 22

Brian Stubbs          116 / 19

Hopefully Ray will be back on the course next week and will arrange a suitable ‘Ramadan’ venue.

Results – Sungai Long – 23rd June 2015

A good day at Sungai Long. Course was in great condition. Reception staff was extremely helpful, to the point filling in all the paperwork for me so booking in was very easy.

We paid a bit over the top as they charged us for caddies as well! One per flight.

The down side was, we all had to go off of one tee box behind a couple of other flights but it was 30 minutes before our designated tee time!

The 1st 3 flights made good time finishing in 4 hours. The last flight (Low handicappers)

took a little longer. Possibly due to Bernard’s constant picking and cleaning of his ball, when it wasn’t advised that it was a “pick and clean” day!!!!!!

The winner of the day was Bernard with an impressive 80 for 43 points. Did his “pick and

clean” give him an advantage!
