Results – Tasik Puteri – 2nd June 2015

Only 8 Cannons turned up to challenge the various nines of Tasik Puteri, making it very easy at registration and money counting time.
Two flights headed out earlier than our intended 8am tee time and we were not worried by other players/flights whatsoever. We played the Tasik and Putera nines which we all know are vastly different in character and represent a sometimes difficult challenge.
Both flights got around in good time and just beat the siren before the rain came. Had we been caught in that downpour, boats would have been required for passage back to the clubhouse. Lunch was at our usual Restoran “right of the road before the petrol station” and the six of us enjoyed a very good spread and a few amber ales.
Bernard Romahn won the day to make it two weeks on the trot, with a gross of 88 and 36 points. A somewhat distant second was Henning Therkelsen with 32 points and third, Siegmund Maierbrugger with 31. Lowest Gross was shared by Bernard and yours truly. Results attached.

17 punters mustered at Amverton Cove for the May Monthly Medal in balmy weather and we all got off to a prompt start off 2 tee boxes and we were round in very good time.  

Winner on the day was the Desert Fox, Bernard Romahn, OCB from Henning Therkelson and both with 38 points.  Lowest gross was again Geoff McLaws with 81 and the most gross was shared between Barry Cousins and Andrew Robinson both with 112.  Andrew’s new clubs really making a difference!  And his final score not boosted by 5 putting on one green!  Details below:

Lunch was taken at the regular restaurant over the bridge on the right – and very good it was too when the food eventually arrived!  Although attending the lunch is not compulsory, it is an integral part of the day and all are encouraged to participate.  A tad irking are those indicating they are coming for the lunch and then don’t turn up!  This leads to confusion with table arrangements and ordering.

Only 14 players teed off on time from 2 tee boxes on a sunny, hot and very humid day. The humidity was certainly cleared on the way back with exceptionally heavy rain , all the way back to KL.. !!

The course was in generally good condition, with the greens being fast but a little bumpy. 

9 players eventually made it to the restaurant, after one of the leading cars lost two of the following vehicles….. and an enjoyable lunch was had by all. Andrew kindly bought the beers to celebrate his belated birthday.

Results

The winner was Brian Stubbs with 98 for 36 points. In second place was Robert Mulliss with 103 for 35 points. Lowest gross was Geoff Mclaws with a 83. Well done to all. Surprisingly 8 out of the 14 starters were within 2 stableford points. Full results below:



Results – Loose Cannons vs LEGS – KGSAAS – 5th May 2015

For this Loose Cannons vs LEGS match we had 11 flights (44 players) at KGSAAS. We tee’d off from 5 tee boxes on the Sultan/President combination under hot and humid conditions at around 8:30am. The course was in good shape although the fairways seems a little heavy in places and the greens were on the slow side but did run very true. The first 5 flights had the men (handicaps around 18 or less) teed off the blue tees making this rather long as many of the blue tee  boxes were on the black tee boxes.
It was best ball Stableford points per team added up for the match to decide the results of each individual match – 1 point for a win and a 1/2 point for a draw.
After the game we all had lunch in the Chinese Restaurant at the club which was good and the prizes awarded to the best two teams on each side.
An excellent day out all in all.

Loose Cannons had a convincing win for this match beating the LEGS ladies 7.5 games to 3.5 games. Many of the matches were very close with only 1 point separating the teams. Best winning pairs and runners up are as follows:

Results – Staffield Country Resort – 28th April 2015

It was a beautiful and serene morning with clear skies and a light breeze at Staffield as 24 players teed off from two tee boxes (North & West courses). The course was in great shape and the greens excellent. This was the Trophy Game for April 2015.
There were no holdups on the round and we managed a steady pace finishing at around 12:15 – 12:30. Lunch was taken post game at Restoran East of the Highway back towards KL next to the Sungai Besi toll.
Lunch was attended by 16 who enjoyed great food and free drinks courtesy of Hans Berger and Ted Parslow both celebrating their 72nd Birthdays. Thank you to Hans and Ted!!
Results
The clear winner today was the Birthday Boy, Hans Berger, with 40 points and a gross of 88. Hans was duly presented with the April Trophy plus the RM50 prize. There were 4 runner ups all at 37 points ( Henning, Aftab, Andrew & Paul) – no count back was done. Best gross of the day was Jason Winter with a 79. Full results tabulated below :

Results – Bukit Unggul – 21st April 2015

Great turnout today with 24 players (6 full flights) at Bukit Unggul. The course has been worked on over the last few months and the greens are now good again, although unfortunately had just been sanded making it a little bit more unpredictable. The fairways were generally ok although wild boar action was evident on many of their favourite spots. The bunkers however need some serious attention and are still the same as before – ragged around the edges and with drainage problems. Thye have been making some efforts to tidy up the course and there was a fair bit of tree felling ongoing.
Weather was good and by the second 9 became hot and rather humid. We made good time around the course finishing by 12 noon. Lunch was taken at the club with beers sponsored by the club and Ray Funnell – many thanks. We managed a modest 19 jugs.
Results
Erol Akinci was the clear winner today with a magnificent round of 85 to give him 44 points. Runner up was John Laidley with 41 points and the best gross of the day of 77. Of note John actually shot his age today – congrats! Full results below.

4 flights today at Tasik Puteri under very good conditions – playing the Puteri and Tasik 9’s. The course was in very good shape and the greens were also good, though some were on the slower side. We made good time round the course and were all back by 12:30pm. Lunch was taken at the usual restaurant on the way back towards Rawang with 9 players attending.

Results

The winner today was Graham Cadman (who was a last minute replacement for Andrew Robinson who pulled out) with an excellent 40 points (gross of 94). Joint second was Barry Sage and Henning Therkelsen both on 38 points. Best gross of the day was shared between Henning Therkelsen and Stuart taylor with 86.

There were 17 players this week at Nilai Springs under good conditions both weather-wise and course-wise. The course was in very good condition and the greens also very good although very slow. Lunch was taken at the club after the game.
Results
This course usually has some good scores and today was no exception. The winner with 42 points (gross of 81) was Bernhard Romahn – well done Bernard. Runner up on 40 points (gross of 92) was Ray Funnell. Full scores detailed below :

Loose Cannons Away – Malacca – 31st March to 2nd April 2015

A 3 day tour to Malacca was arranged from 31st March to 2nd April taking in 3 of the courses we played the year before. Day 1 at Tiara Melaka was the monthly March Trophy Game followed by a 2-day competition at Orna and Ayer Keroh Golf Clubs. We had 16 players for Day 1, 4 players coming down just for the day at Tiara Melaka, and then 12 players staying for the continuing 2-day competition.

Day 1 – Tiara Melaka Golf & Country Club – 31st March 2015

The March monthly Trophy Game was held at Tiara Melaka. After the drive from KL the 16 players met at the club for some breakfast and teed off at around 9:30am. Conditions were hot and very humid but the course was very quiet allowing us to progress fairly quickly. The course seems to be needing a little attention compared to last year and a little shabby in places. The greens however were good and the course provided enough challenge for all players. 
We finished by around 2pm and then had lunch and drinks on the patio with the prize giving. An incredible storm then rolled in delaying our departure from the club but allowing us to take on some more beer before heading into Malacca to checkin to the hotel.

Results

The winner of the March Monthly Trophy and RM50 was Ted Parslow with 38 points (gross of 80, which was the best gross of the day) on count back from Richard Moss who also shot 38 points (gross of 102).

Day 2 – Orna Golf & Country Resort – 1st April 2015

The first day of the 2-day Malacca Trophy Competition was held at Orna. Last year the course had been very dry but this year the course seemed much better. The course has a fantastic layout with some wonderful holes. Again the course was very quiet and we headed out in 3 flights over the East and West 9’s under very hot and humid conditions.
The course provided some wonderful undulating greens to test the putting skills and generally the course was in pretty good shape.
Some players struggled in the heat and humidity, probably due to excesses of the evening before, but we had some good scores in the group. Richard Moss unfortunately stopped play after about 6 or 7 holes as his shoulder was giving up …. but he managed to accumulate 6 points at least. 
For the 2 day competition we had a number of prizes for each day as well as the overall combined results so hopefully all participants went home with something.

The winner of the first day of the 2-day competition was Andrew Robinson with an excellent 40 points (gross of 92) and beating the runner up, Ted Parslow on count back who also had 40 points (gross of 78). Ted’s 78 was the best gross of the day. 3rd place was Martin Walsh on 39 points (gross of 84). Full results below :

Dinner at Bistro, Malacca

For the last evening the group had a good meal out at the Bistro on Jonkers Street, Malacca. After a failed attempt to order a set Nonya meal for 12 we eventually all ordered individual meals which were surprisingly very good. There was some significant amounts of wine and beer drunk which amounted to a substantial bill. At one point the waitress told me the bill had been paid by one of our party and all indications were that it was Martin Walsh. However we found out that she was mistaken …. Martin had only asked the waitress where the nearest ATM machine was and certainly had no intention of picking up the bill for the whole group. As he later said “I might be Irish but I’m not &%$#@# stupid!”.
We discussed the change of the Loose Cannons Convenor and a vote of thanks to Stuart Taylor and his efforts over the last year was led by Bernhard Romahn. As Ray Funnell had volunteered to act as Convenor for the following year (with assistance for looking after the monies and booking the restaurants) we all agreed that Ray Funnel would take over as Convenor directly after the end of the tour.

Day 3 – Ayer Keroh Country Club – 2nd April 2015

We all remember Ayer Keroh from last year …. long, difficult, and very hot. It was no different this year and this course taxed most of the group. The course was in good condition but there were many long holes with the last hole being a monster 569m par 5 …… just for the record I hit 3 drivers, a 60 deg wedge to the edge of the green and a putter to get my much appreciated par. Martin Walsh birdied this hole so deservedly got the last birdie prize.
We had a snack lunch at the club and presented all the final prizes for that day’s golf and the overall competition before heading back to KL about 3:30pm.

The winner of Day 2 of the Competition was Roger Surieux with an excellent 38 points (gross of 98). Runner up was Geoff Parslow with 35 points (and best gross of the day of 81). 3rd place was Martin Walsh with 33 points (gross of 90). Full results as below :

Melaka Trophy – 2 Day Competition Results

The overall winner of the 2-day competition was Roger Surieux with a total of 76 points – well done Roger! He scored 38 points each day and at Ayer Keroh this was a real achievement.
Runner up was Martin Walsh with a total of 72 points and 3rd place was Ted Parslow with 71 points.

A good turnout today with 5 full flights and 20 players. Conditions were good with clear and relatively cool weather. The course was very good and the greens, although slow on the 1st 9 holes, were in great condition. We set out from 2 tee boxes and got finished by 12:30pm. 19 of us out of the 20 (surely a record, and including a surprise attendance by Ray Funnell) had lunch at the Chinese restaurant which was enjoyed by all. Although a bit on the expensive side (mainly due them charging us for small bottles of Tiger beer to fill the jugs …. 48 in total at RM13 a pop!) the Loose Cannons kitty kindly chipped in to offset this and subsequently only cost the punters RM50 a head.
Andrew Robinson turned up with new golf shoes today …. well at least we think they were golf shoes ….. but looked suspiciously like some semi-casual tennis shoes. Anyway we will be carrying out a time lapse photo project over the next year and capturing the gradual degradation of these new shoes as Andrew continues to wear them every week …. with his usual attention to cleaning his golf shoes it probably won’t be long till we see some interesting changes.
Results
Some good scores today which is normal at this course with 6 players playing to handicap or better. The winner was Mike Smith with a excellent 41 points (gross of 89) …. well done Mike. Runner up was Stuart Taylor with 40 points (gross of 82) …. if only I had not 3 putted that last green …. sigh!
Best gross of the day was shared between Geoff Parslow and Geoff McLaws both with 81.
