At the last moment some lost cannons found their way back to the group so we ended up with 3 full flights attacking Bangi. I haven’t seen it that busy in Bangi for a long time. Lots of golfers were probably out to play one last game before another lock-down started. Despite all this we were on our way around 8:00 am; playing the blue tees since Bangi is not that long. The course is in a good condition and still improving; very good value for money. Unfortunately flight 2 and 3 were held up by a slow flight that sneaked in on the 2nd 9. It took us at least half an hour more to get around.

We had some decent scores today with a number of players better or close to their handicap. Martin ran away with the money today (90/40), followed closely by Ricardo (81/39) and Tony coming in 3rd (88/38). See all scores below.

The monthly ranking after 2 games is headed by Ricardo and Martin with both 70 points, followed by Tony with 67 points.

Lunch after the game was at East of Highway. Thanks to Dave for organizing the table and the cold beers waiting for us since he was there already for about 45 minutes. The food is always good there and they didn’t disappoint us. We had a few mystery prizes to forget the lock-down misery. Sleeve of ball for Dave for keeping him waiting so long and also for nearly being killed by Brian on the first hole. Luckily Brian missed a lot of his targets today. Another sleeve for Ricardo since he plays so many times lowest gross. And the last sleeve for Robert playing most gross today.

Since the lock-down rules are unclear with regard to playing golf (especially the travel restrictions) we have to see whether we can play next Tuesday. The courses are open and have re-established the 1 person/1 buggy rule. A few groups have booked for the coming days to play golf so let’s see what that brings. It looks like we have to go for some trial and error………..I have booked 3 flights at Palm Garden 20 October 8:00 am. If it doesn’t work out I can always cancel. Let’s see………. So who wants to play; names please?

Thanks to Ricardo Castro and Martin Belderink for the photos.

Our strategy being very early didn’t workout really as while we were the first in line when reception opened the Koreans passed behind our back loading their bags on the buggies, how come, they had paid in advance. However once we got going they did not hold us up.

We had excellent golf weather and the course, and this comes from us who has played it several times, were in decent condition being the wet season and consider the low cost it’s rather good value for money.

Nine of us joined the lunch at East of Highway and it was as usual very good.

As this was the week for Tony Morris seventy years birthday he gave a great contribution for the bill.

Happy birthday Tony and many thanks.

So how did it go, almost the same as last week.

– Shared third Ricardo Castro and Bernard Romahn 35 points

– Second Stan Constantinides 36 points

– Winner Josef Winter 37 points

Kajang nine hole one

Results – Bangi Golf Club – 12th November 2019

We had an easy registration, I think we were the only larger group so early in the morning, so no waiting time for tee-off. The weather stayed dry with partly cloudy sky with the course in a good nick i.e. a nice day on the Bangi GR today.

There are a lot of activities in the place out there e.g. the road from the main road has been resurfaced and they had cut down more or perhaps all trees between Putrayaja hole 9 and Bangi nine-hole 1. Bangi nine is closed for renovation.
The food at East of Highway was as usual very good, but for some reason, we had to wait a long time for dish # two, three, etc to arrive. It was funny to see the waitress moving here arms to describe what was going on in the kitchen.

It was good scores all over today even though we played from the blue tee;
Winner Tony Morris with 45 points with the lowest gross of 80
Shared second Allan Wright and Josef Winter with 39 points, see the attached table for all.

Bangi Golf Resort has been going through some major renovations on the course and although the first phase of cutting back trees and bushes was much needed they have now gone too far and the course looks a major earthquake and hurricane have been through it. It is now very barren and devoid of the many trees it had lining the fairways so it is now very open. It is a shame that this is the case as it is still a nice little course with some interesting holes.

We teed’ off on the Putrajaya and Kajang nines at 8:00am and the course was very quiet so we made good time, well Flights 3 and 4 did, flights 1 and 2 arrived at lunch at Restoran East of Highway 1 hour after us so I have no idea what held them up.

The winner this week was Stuart Taylor with an excellent score of 77 for 45 points. Runner up was Bernard Romahn with 80 for 42 and there was a tie for 3rd place between Aftab Ahmad and Eric van Donselaar, both on 41 points. Best gross of the day was Stuart’s 77. Full results below:

Results – Bangi Golf Resort – 13th February 2018

Last time we played Bangi they had been doing a lot of maintenance work on the areas around the golf course so it was somewhat disappointing today to see the state of the course. The greens were bad, uncut and slow with numeorus patches and almost all of the bunkers have been left in a bad state and all with GUR signs. Looks like the maintennace budget has finished.

However the weather was great as our 5 flights headed out on the Putrajaya and Bangi nines. This course is generally rather short even from the blues so some good scores were expected.

We had lunch after the game at the regular and excellent Restoran East of Highway where 11 of us enjoyed a good lunch and plenty of amber ale to counteract the dehydration of the game.

There were some very good results today with 8 players shooting on the 40’s (Stableford Points). Our winner was Ricardo Castro with a 79 for 42 points. We had 3 runners up on 41 points; Bernard Romahn, Roger Surieux and Enzo Filoni. best gross was Niall Murray with a 78 which could have been 2 or 3 shots better had he not driven his ball OB on the very last hole. IMG_5961There were 23 players today at Bangi Golf Resort and after a quick registration we were off at 8:00am from 2 tee boxes on the Kajang and Putrajaya nines. Already by early morning the sun was out and it was soon very warm and humid. We did however get some respite later when we had a 10 minute rain shower.

The course was in reasonable condition and playing from the blue tees this time most players found this much more enjoyable.

Welcome to our new guest who joined us today – Alan Feasby invited by David Savage.

After the game we had lunch at our favourite East of Highway Restaurant.

Our winner this week with a very good 96 for 40 points was Allan Wright. We had two players tied for 2nd place; Martin Belderink with 92 for 38 and David Savage with 87 for 38. Best gross was shared between Mike Williams and Paul Geddes, both with 85 and most golf was won by Brian Stubbs with a 115, although it must be said that our Convenor, Hans Berger did not finish because of injury …. so perhaps he may have had most golf!! With a last minute entry by John Laidley today this made a nice 16 for 4 full flights at Bangi Golf Resort. They are still working on the clubhouse and the registration desk has now moved to a new location where the old pro shop was. Registration was easy and with everyone there sharp we all got off before 8:00am on the Kajang and Bangi nines.

The course was in good condition with good greens although there were many of the bunkers being worked on so they were GUR …. technique therefore was to aim for the bunkers then take the drop!

Weather was cool after the early morning rain so it was a very pleasant morning to be playing golf. We all finished by 12pm and then 14 of the 16 made it to East of Highway Restaurant for lunch. Martin Belderink who was celebrating his birthday kindly contributed RM200 which covered the drinks bill … many thanks Martin and HAPPY BIRTHDAY.

As expected there were some very good scores today at this relatively short course with only 4 players shooting less than 36, me being the bottom of the pile with a meagre 27 points (8 on the front 9!) as I get to grips with my game after 5 weeks off. We had 4 players tied for second place with 43 points, but the winner today with his best round to date with a gross of 85 and 45 points was Peter Davies. Peter will be cut 9 strokes!
