Henning Therkelsen managed a trick shot today managing to hit his ball into his partners’ buggy, lodging in the front tray …. see photograph below.
We were finished by 12:30 to 1pm and then 13 of the 18 players had lunch at the very good Ken Well Seafood Restaurant. Unfortunately Hans Berger got lost again and aborted. … next time follow someone as this restaurant is a little tricky to find.
|Henning Therkelsen managed to hit his ball into his partner’s buggy. It was lodged in the front tray of the buggy making it rather impossible to play ….. an unplayable lie was declared for 1 penalty stroke …. bad luck Henning!|
|Yes again Andrew Cseszko wins the “best attired” golfer award.|
This was the biannual challenge between Loose Cannons and LEGS and the ladies hosted this game at their home club of Impian Golf Club. We had a perfect number of 18 a side making a convenient 9 flights for a shot-gun start on holes 10 through 18.
Everyone showed up promptly and we managed to avoid a delay in the registration with the club agreeing for us to pay later which was good. Buggies and caddies were all ready so we all got off to a sharp start at just before 8:30am.
The weather was good albeit a little humid and sticky. The course was in good condition although some of the greens had been scarified making it rather uneven and unpredictable in those areas.
We all got finished by 12:30pm or so and sat down for an arranged lunch at the club before the final results were announced.
Many thanks to all the people who helped organise this match and to all the participants who made this a most successful day out.
The past 3 matches have been very close with two matches drawn and one match won by the ladies …. making them one up overall to date.
Today the men came good and won 6 games with the ladies winning 3 games …. so a convincing overall win for Loose Cannons – well done to all the Loose Cannons players for a great result.
This means that we are now tied in the overall score to date. Loose Cannons look forward to arranging the next game around April time frame next year and continue the good work that we demonstrated today!
There were prizes for the best Stableford score for the ladies pairs and the mens pairs. Winner for the ladies were Yvonne Gately and Meret Dahl with a best Stableford score of 51 points, and winner for the best men’s pair score went to Stuart Taylor and Barry Cousins with a score of 49 points.
Full results are tabulated below.
It was also noted that this was Alan Holgate’s 200th game today – well done Alan -you can buy us all drinks next week to celebrate!
Next week is the return LEGS challenge match at Impian GC. We currently have 16, with a reserve. If anyone else wants to play then Ray Funnell must know by 1000 hrs, Wednesday 11th. Meeting Tiggy tomorrow morning to agree pairings and H/Caps. Hopefully we can achieve a close match as previously.
Two tee boxes were booked but the club decided not to honour the booking and the last 2 flights, started from the 6th, which also delayed their tee off times. Apart this small problem, everybody had a good day on this excellent course, which was in very good condition and the greens were true but played a little slow.
I had the pleasure of watching the winner, Ted Parslow play his best round of golf for many years. He only missed two greens in regulation, and was 4 under after the first 6 holes. A couple of short putts missed and his last hole the 5 th, par 5, he was still level par, off the tee, but some very bad
luck cost him a shot. His iron from the tee ran off the fairway and he had an unplayable lie, all contributed to a 2 over round , 74 . Sorry Ted you are only cut 15 points. Next week h/cap 2…!! In second place on count back , from Hans, was Kevin Wiggins with 84 for 41 points. Cut only 1.
Many thanks to Hans Berger for the vouchers he very kindly donated today, which in effect, subsidised everybody’s golf and lunch today.
Next week’s game will be at Impian Golf & Country Club. Tee off will be at 0745am so please be there at 0720am latest. 5flights have been booked. In Andrew Robinson’s absence Kevin Wiggins will be collecting the cash. Please confirm availability by Sunday 1400hrs as final flight list needs to be faxed to the club.
Please remember your TP book for this course – some free green vouchers are available so final costs to be notified later.
Thank you to all the 16 players who arrived punctually and we teed off on time at 0730 hrs. It is a long time since Cannons played at Impian, and for me personally the first time.
Very good course, but some of the fairways on the front 9 were a little short of grass, but generally in good condition, with the greens playing well and true. Good weather and good run on the fairways were an indication of the scoring. Only 4 players failed to break the 100.
One hopes that now Sime Darby own the course that developments will happen to further improve the course. Also good value, when using the TP books.
The winner on the day was Iain Wise with gross 95 for 43 points. Cut 7. Iain won on count back from Ray Funnell 94 for 43 points, cut 1 and Andrew Robinson 89, 43 points. Lowest Gross was Ted Parslow with 86.

All names to Ray Funnell to confirm.
