Results – Bangi Golf Club – 7th October 2014

We had 16 Cannons for today’s game at Bangi and today we had everyone at the club by 7:30, we were registered and paid by 7:35 and in the buggies and off to the tee box by 7:45 …. an all time record.

Weather was hazy and rather humid making it very sticky. Course was in good shape and the greens were very quick and rather unpredictable making for many of us taking far too many putts. The course was quiet and we got round by 12:15pm.

Barry Cousins won the most inventive attire award of the day …. managing to tailor his golf shorts apparently from the canvas of an old deck chair!

Stuart Taylor won the most bizarre shot of the day award with a tee shot off the 3rd hole (Par 5) on the Kajang Course which headed straight for a large tree on the left (Stuart’s attempt to cut the corner) …. with a large thud all of us assumed it was lost in the jungle …. but a good 4-5 seconds later as the next person was moving to the tee box the ball landed about 6 feet behind us …. having rebounded from the tree some 100m away. Stuart then proceeded to take a 3-wood to the lucky ball, hit his second over the trees onto the fairway round the corner and eventually bogeyed the hole!!

Results

There were some good scores today on this rather short course with a few players in the 40’s. The winner however with a magnificent round of 99 and 45 Stableford points was Richard Moss once again showing that our highest handicap golfer in the group can win! Well done Richard. Runner up was Andrew Robinson with a mere 44 points. Best gross of the day was Andrew Chez with a round of 80, including one eagle and a couple of birdies. He did however completely #%$#@ up his Stableford score …. declaring 40 points …. reduced to the correct figure of 36 points by the Convenor.

Results – Kinrara Golf Club – 30th September 2014

It was a hazy morning as 20 Loose Cannons players showed up at the Kinrara Golf Club for the September Trophy game. Course conditions although a tad soggy in parts due to the recent rain was generally good. The greens were in good shape other than one or two which had been hollow tined.

Our 5 flights got off sharp before 8am from two split tee boxes and most were beck by 12:30 or so.

Most of the players drove back and had lunch at the Selangor Club Sport’s Annexe with Andrew Robinson ordering a mountain of pizzas, fries … and of course much liquid amber.

Results

Mike Williams was the September Trophy winner with a gross of 84 and 39 Stableford points – congratulations! Second was Mike Smith with 37 points (94 gross). Best gross of the day was Geoff Parslow with 81. Full results below.

The Convenor returned to KL to be eagerly greeted by Iain Wise and Andrew Robinson who had arranged this Tuesday game …. and they quickly passed on the buck! Many thanks to all who helped in arranging and running the games the last 4 weeks I was away.
Staffield was in very good condition with the greens running rather quickly. Weather conditions were very good and the 4 flights got round and finished by just after 12pm. It was then off to Restoran East of the Highway for an excellent lunch for those who decided to join.
Results

Winner of the day was Bernard Romahn with an excellent score of 87 for 40 points. Runner up was Mike Smith with 38 points.

Well after pulling teeth signing in we got off on the 10th tee at 8.30.
 
With all 4 fights from the same box we did not complete until 1.00pm.
 
After saying that it was in good condition and the score were very respectful.

Five flights teed off on time and in good weather. Unfortunatley, due to adverse weather conditions 
over the last few months, the course was not in its best condition.

Winner on the day, after count back, was Andrew Chez on 80 for 36 points. 
Andrew Chez also shared the lowest gross with Jason Winter.








Results – Tasik Puteri – 19th August 2014

We had 15 players this morning at Tasik Puteri and we got off to an early start at 5 mins to 8 on two nines (Puteri and Putera). Course conditions were good and the greens quite fast. We made good time round the course but unfortunately due to heavy rain the siren went and suspended play with most players having a few holes to play. Our 4 ball luckily managed to finish the 18th albeit in heavy rain.
We had lunch at our usual Chinese restaurant close to Rawang on the road back to the highway which was good – thank you again to Andrew for the ordering (The black tau foo was particularly good!)
Results

As most players did not manage to finish all 18 holes other than Flight 3 we made the ruling that any hole not played scored 2 points so we could announce a winner. The winner was Geoff McLaws with a very good 40 points and second place was tied between Aftab Ahmad and Jeff Pearce both on 39 points. The gross scores were back-calculated from the Stableford points.
Other than the group that finished (highlighted in yellow on the scoresheet below) the scores were not input into the handicap system as these were incomplete rounds.

Next Game – Tasik Puteri – 19th August 2014

Next week we will play at Tasik Puteri and we have 4 flights booked starting at 8:00am. Please be at the club by 7:30am latest for registration.
Cost will be RM100 for Seniors and RM120 for non-seniors. TP book cost is same as seniors so no advantage in using this unless you are a youngster!
Lunch after the game will be at the usual Chinese restaurant back down the road towards the highway and close to Rawang on the right hand side.

It was a lovely morning with cool air at the top of Bukit Tinggi when 10 of the Loose Cannons tee’d off at 8:00am – a pleasant change from the high humidity of the lower altitudes of the Klang Valley. The course was a little patchy with a fair bit of wart hog action on the fairways and in particular the greens were bad having been recently sanded leaving it a rather random process to proceed the ball towards the hole. The course however was relatively quiet with only a few other players who decided to move ahead of us to the 10th rather than sticking behind us as we started on hole 1.
After the game we drove back down the hill to Kampung Bukit Tinggi for a great (and cheap) lunch at Restaurant 126 – well ordered Tony!
Results
The winner again this week was Barry Sage with a great score of 88 and 40 points (24 points on the back 9!) – this is now a back to back win for barry who has obviously found his form. We will be seeing his handicap dropping accordingly! Second was Stuart Taylor with the best gross of the day (84) and 37 points.
