While the Batam Away group were heading off for 3 days of golf in Indonesia the stragglers arranged a game here in KL. Registration this morning at Monterez was easy and was helped financially by a very good deal if using Maybank or CIMB debit cards where we could get a rate of RM68 per player for that flight. Thanks to Allan Wright and Stan Constantinides we got cheap rates for 2 flights. Normal rates were RM106 so all in all a good deal.
As expected Monterez was quite moist given the recent rain and its tendancy to get wet easily. However apart from a few plugged balls on the fairways the course was generally in good shape and the greens very good. The slopes on the greens and the pin positions however made it quite tricky. Weather was good but did get a bit hot near the end of the round.
We had an excellent lunch after the game at the nearby Choong Foong Seafood Restaurant and lunch was well washed down by many cold beers kindly aided by a kind RM200 input from Paul Geddes for a recent birthday. Happy Birthday Paul!

The winner today was Stuart Taylor with 81 for 41 points. Runner up was Peter Davies with 91 for 39 (on count back from Kevin Wiggins with 83 for 39). Best gross of the day was Paul Geddes with an 80. Full results below:

We played at KGSAAS today on the President and Sultan 9’s. Course was in fairly good shape although the fairways seem to need some attention with cow grass growing through and what looked like tiny daisies growing on the 9th hole of the President 9. They have been cutting back the trees and the rough quite extensivle so the course looks very tidy now. Weather was also great and we got round in good time by around 12:30pm with lunch taken at the club.
Welcome to our guest today … Niall Murray … introduced by Emlyn Jones.

The winner today was Roger McGowan with 94 for 39 points. Runners up were jointly Kaz Takita with 95 for 38 and kevin Wiggins with 86 for 38. Most golf was David Evans …. full results below.

The monthly trophy game for September was held at the scenic Kota Seriemas Golf & Country Club. Although the early morning weather looked very doubtful with a large band of rolling dark clouds coming in over the course it cleared up quickly and the conditions were very pleasant all the way round. The course was in good condition and we all got round fairly quickly with the first 2 groups finished and in the restaurant by 12:30pm.
The after game lunch was at Loon Sing Restaurant which tends to be expensive for what it offers and it would probably be just as well to head back down the road to East of Highway Restaurant in future.
Many thanks to Iain Wise who donated RM200 to the kitty to celebrate his recent 200th game.

The winner of the monthly trophy for September was Kevin Wiggins with an excellent 82 for 43 points (even par gross 36 on his back 9!). This is now a back-to-back win for Kevin who is truly back in form, his handicap dropping over the last few weeks from 19 and now down to 16 after this game. Runner up was Ricardo Castro with 82 for 41. Bets gross of the day was Geoff McLaws with a 79 and most golf was Ray Funnell. Full results below:

We returned to Seri Selangor after a long period where they were renovating the course. There have been some improvements but it is really far from ready with scruffy fairways, dug up areas and some extensive GUR area around some greens. The greens were very good however apart from hole no 18 which is now a temporary green as they work on the proper green. So we may have to leave it a while till we return here.
We had 4 full flights and got off from 2 tee boxes sharply at 8:00am. After the game we had lunch at our regular Pantai Seafood Restaurant which was very good.

The winner this week was Kevin Wiggins with a great round of 84 for 42 points which is a really good score at this course. Runner up was Allan Wright with 37 points on count back from Tony Morris also with 37 points. Best gross was Geoff McLaws with an 80 and most golf was Dave Evans with 113. Full scores below:

With a last minute entry we eventually made 12 players and 4 full flights. It was a beautiful morning and we tee’d off on the Northern and Southern 9’s at 8:00am sharp. The course was in very good condition and the weather stayed clear all morning for us to finish. By 12:30 we were back in the clubhouse for a lunch and some refreshing beers on the terrace.

With the best gross of the day (77), Geoff McLaws was our winner today with 39 points with Ted Parslow and Kevin Wiggins runners up with 36 points. Full scores below:

There were only 3 flights this week for our outing at Danau Golf Club. We all set off at 8:00am sharp from the 10th tee over the difficult terrain of Danau – nothing much has changed with heavy thick rough making it difficult finding balls and playing from – best policy was to try and stay on the fairway. The greens were in good condition however albeit a little tricky with the slopes and the hole positions.
Weather was good and although the skies darkend near the end of the round we got finished before the rain came in later. It is a tough course and most players confirmed it was not one of their favourite courses.
We welcomed a new player today – Eric van Donselaar – introduced by Emlyn Jones. We hope to see him again.
Lunch after the game was at Restoran East of Highway which was excellent as usual.
Kaz Takita was the winner today with 97 for 36 winning on count back from Hans Berger with 98 for 36 – well done Kaz. He didn’t make lunch so his winnings went into the pot to pay for lunch … cheers Kaz!
Best gross of the day was Stuart Taylor with 93 and most golf was Martin Belderink. Full results below:

The monthly trophy game for the month of August was played at Palm Garden Golf Club and with some golf vouchers gathered from the last game there we had some discount (well some of the players did!). We had only 4 full flights this week and got off from two tee boxes promptly at 8:00am.
The course was in very good condition and is always a joy to play here with beautiful fairways and excellent greens. From the white tees the course is short so making some birdie opportunities for a few players. The weather was kind as well and was actually a bit cooler than normal.
After the game we all had lunch at the club restaurant with their excellent fish and chips being a firm favourite.
The winner of the August Trophy was Andrew Cseszko with an excellent 76 for 39 points with Ray Funnell runner up with 101 for 38 points. Best gross of the day was Andrew with his 76 and our Convenor, Hans Berger, got the most golf award. Full results below :

There were 5 flights today at Tasik Puteri and we all got off efficiently on the Putera and Puteri 9’s at 8:00am sharp. Weather was good, rather cool and overcast for the first hour or so making it a pleasant morning. The course was looking a little more scruffy than it usually does with overgrown tee boxes and various patches of long grass and GUR on the fairways. The greens were good though and provided some putting challenges on some of the holes.
We had lunch at the club after the game and as usual the food was rather ordinary and took a long time to come for many of us. I would recommend we return to the usual Chin Heong Restoran Chinese Restaurant at this venue the next time.
Some good scores today at the top of the table with quite a few players bettering the ir handicap. The winner was Iain Wise with an excellent 86 for 44 points and continuing in hos post-holiday golf form. Runner up was Tony Morris with 86 for 43 points. best gross of the day was Geoff McLaws with an 81 and most golf was shared between Allan Wright and Aftab Ahmad. Full results below:
