Results – Tasik Puteri- 4th July 2017

There were 5 full flights today for our first game of July at Tasik Puteri. We played the Tasik and Puteri 9’s and got off almost without a delay …… only small hiccup was on saddling up in the buggies Kevin Wiggins could not find his clubs … he eventually checked his car and there they were …. as on his arrival at the club they had taken out his daughter’s small set of clubs instead of his ones. We should have insisted he played with those!

The course was in good condition and quite dry making it conjusive for some good scores. Greens were on the slow side.

We had planned after the game to have lunch at Restoran Chin Heong Rawang in Rawang but as the chef was sick we stayed on at the club and took lunch there …. apart from the very late arrival of my kung po chicken dish all went well.

Results – Kota Seriemas – 28th June 2017

We all arrived in good time for the June monthly medal as there were not many cars on the roads being the first working day after the Hari Raya Puasa holidays.

The lower handicappers teed off from hole 10, ordinary mortals from hole 1 and into the sun, but not to be worried we found our balls.

Our putting suffered a bit from the not fully recovered greens after the Ramadan course maintenance, the other part of the course were in very good conditions.

The winner of the June monthly medal were David Evans with 98/38, runner up me with 95/36, second runner up Ray Funnel 105/33.

Lowest gross, yes it should be one of the single handicapper shouldn’t and it was “long time no seen” Jason Winter with 83, Erol Akinci had the most gross with 107

All except two could make it to Restoran Loon Sing for the lunch and prize giving ceremony, personally I think the food were better last time.

Results – Sungai Long – 20th June 2017

It was not too many golfers in the morning and lucky us for that, as we were busy trying to get hold of our, yes exactly Reinli Tan, who was fully a sleep despite two alarms he said. He eventually showed up some time later.

Unfortunately we had to tee-off from hole one as second nine was not open yet.

Despite the morning rain the course was in excellent conditions and especially the greens, which were fast and had some holes with pin-placement on the borderline of put-able.

Lowest gross, even we had another 7-handicapper on the field, Geoff McLaws shoot a good 80 and the most golf ….yes Allan again.

Second runner up myself with 98/33, runner up Geoff McLaws 80/35 and the winner was Ricardo Castro with an excellent 82/40.

Unfortunately I hit a bird on hole five, the air and fairway was like full of feathers, eventually it took off over the pond and landed dead on the fairway as it looked from distance. If that was not enough Kewin Wiggins killed one bird on the road leaving the course. Not a good day for birds.

We welcome Enzo Filoni to Loose Cannons, a good golfer who I’m sure will be up there competing for the 50Rm and the monthly medal.

Results – Kota Permai – 13th June 2017

Course were in a very good condition and it’s nice to play, although I wish their registration was as good.
All three flights teed-off from hole one and it all worked out smoothly.
The outstanding winner of the day were Geoff McLaws with 72/43, second Bernard Romahn with 86/40 and third came Kevin Wiggins 92/35.
Quite a lot of players were around 100 but none of us beat Allan Wright. (Stuart, you will have full result later).
Our usual Chinese restaurant were not open, so we had our lunch at the club and it were as good as one can expect from a club like this, except for the fish and chips.

Results – Glenmarie – 6th June 2017

Another lovely day on the golf course, this time Glenmarie GCC Valley course with Loose Cannons and in the end last night we became full four flights. As expected the course were not busy and signing in saddling up and out on the course worked smoothly.

The course were in a very good nick and the few times I have played Glenmarie, the Valley course has always been my favorite and no difference today as it has a nice mixture of challenging and perhaps relaxing holes coupled with very nice large greens.

So how did it go;

– Bernard Romahn took the money with 87/39 and I think this course fits Bernards game

– Ricardo Castro came second with 85/37

– Iain Wise came third with 95/37, with as niot good second nine

– Lowest gross 85 were shared by Geoff McLaws and Ricardo Castro

– Allan Wright had no competitor at all for the most gross

– Tony Morris five-putted the par three hole fifteen after an excellent tee shot

We had the lunch at the clubs restaurant, food were good, Carlsberg beer tasted as it should but the service a bit slow but it’s Ramadan after all isn’t it.

Results – Palm Garden – 30th May 2017

A different Tuesday game for us as we were the only players on the course as it looked like, I suppose the maintenance was the main reason. Other different reasons were that we played the second nine twice but to make it more interesting we played the first nine from white and the second from blue, quite a big difference as we had three holes from black tee-boxes as well, most of us enjoyed it id not all.

Martin Belderink just came back fully rested from a week in Kuching without golf and he had his best game ever with 91/43 well ahead of us others and I completed it at the back-end with 110/21, other results as below.

The second nine, which is named Bismark after a palm plant in Madagascar, was in a good nick except the pin placement on hole sixteen which caused many extra puts or just f…….t.

Other things to be mentioned from the day are;
– David happen to hit his female caddie between the boobs when practicing his chipping, with a little bit hands on massage it worked out okay I have been told
– after teeing off on Hole sixteen Paul’s flight mates asked where is your ball Paul, he had it in the pocket …..back to the tee
– Ted had an episode as well on hole fifteen, I forgot that but what I remember after sharing a whiskey after his birdie, I played much better for a short while, should have taken one more sip I suppose.
Martin and David have had their birthday this month and with their 200Rm each contribution, many thanks chaps, it was enough with a little pocket money from float to cover the cost.

As a compensation for the inconvenience playing the same nine twice we received complementary 18-holes green-fee vouchers. Must be used within three month, I suggest we use them the later part of August.

Results – Amverton Cove – 23rd May 2017

Just a few players requires a short report doesn’t it;
– When we assembled for a shat (Editor : not sure if this was meant to be a chat or a shit) and a small bite early morning we were more or less alone at the club

– Course were in good condition through out

– Dark clouds were threatening at first but having played four holes or so the sun dominated the sky, luckily we had a nice breeze to cool us down a bit

– After five six holes the locals had arrived and the course were quite busy

Kaz Takita won with 98/34 closely followed by Ray Funnel with 105/33

And as usual when we play Amverton Cove we had a good lunch at the Chinese restaurant immediately to the right after the bridge.

Results – KRTU – 16th May 2017

It was several years since I last played this course and it still as nice to play, perhaps a better word would be, fun to play. The first three holes a bit wet but most of the others quite nice actually, greens had various speed as many courses have nowadays due to all the rain.

We became a bit late due some did not find their way without assistance, Kaz did not find it all so in the end we re-organized to three three-flights

Weather was excellent and as I remember from previous time the monkeys followed us on hole two and three looking for something to eat.

Ricardo Castro had lowest gross with 84, he also won with 39 points same as Martin Belderink but with a better second nine, I myself came third with 33 points and that with four holes with no points, you just wait guys….

I would like to thank Zak for assisting with booking and using his membership advantage for lowering the prices both for buggy fee as well for M&M.

The restaurant is airy with a good view, food is good and the beer is cold and not very expansive at all, we will come back.

Amendment ….. Reinli Tan’s core should be 109 for 22 and Paul Geddes correct score was 90 for 28.

Results – Staffield Golf & Country Resort – 2 May 2017

Buggie parking

All arrived in time including myself, registration takes it’s time here due to all +55 proof of age need to be manually recorded.

Flight 1-3 played Western and flight 4-5 the Southern nine and perhaps we should have all played Western as those who teed off before flight 4-5 were very very slow.

Staffield Country Resort does seldom let the players down, same today but looking at the scores it was not as easy as we have been used to, perhaps mainly due to all the rain.

Martin Belderink took the price-money today with 99/37, closely followed by Kevin Wiggins 90/36 and just one point after him came David Evans 99/35.

Lowest Gross should be some with lower Hcp, today it was Paul Geddes with 86 and most played had Kaz Takita with 108 and not far behind followed by Roger and me on 104.

Today no fancy expensive food as we had the lunch at the club and the food was okay but the Carlsberg draft beer had some ‘non-Carlsberg’ taste and after addressing the issue we got a couple of jugs free and better tasting beer.

Lately we have had quite a lot of contributions due to birthday or a high number of games played, today Ted and myself through in 200Rm each as we had our birthday end of April, so filling the hat was not too expensive.

Results – Kota Seriemas Golf & Country Club – 25th April 2017

IMG_3530

We returned to Kota Seriemas Golf & Country Club for our monthly trophy game for April with 21 players attending. We tee’d off from two tee boxes at 8:00am and were rewarded with wonderful weather and great course conditions. We started om the easier first nine which were more open and flat leaving the more difficult back 9 till we were all warmed up!

The course was in very good shape and the greens excellent but sometimes difficult to read. The back 9 are particularly scenic with more elevation and blind shots to the green making it much more of a challenge. The course is long and it was sometimes (frequently?) difficult to reach the green in regulation.

IMG_3489

After the game we had lunch at a new venue, Restoran Loon Sing, close to Nilai and one we pass frequently on the way to Staffield Golf Club. The food was good but it was very expensive – luckily we were well subsidised this week with Ray Funnell pitching in RM400 for his 400th game, Hans donating RM300 for his 300th game, Brian Stubbs RM100 for his 100th game and Aftab RM150 for his birthday last week …. thanks to all.

A congratulation toast was made to Joe Lacy for his succesful completion of the London Marathon last Sunday in a time of 6 hrs 19 mins which is not much more than some of our slower players take to get round 18 holes sometimes!! Well done Joe.
