Results – Nilai Springs -3rd May 2011

After so much rain recently NS was very wet and with buggies restricted to the cart paths it was a slow round. With light rain falling for the opening few holes the 12 Cannons and 2 guests enjoyed pleasant if rather wet conditions on a course that continues to improve with a well trained maintenance staff. My friend Maurice Murphy from Waterford was very impressed but struggled to play to his ability with borrowed clubs and the heat. Julian’s guest Alistair Geddes played to his declared handicap and threatens to be a regular player.
The winner was Julian Purvis with the lowest gross of 88 and 44 points and the runner-up was Paul Jayaraj with his lowest ever gross of 89 for 42 points. Julian is cut 8 and Paul the mandatory 1 stroke.
NS used to be one of the better M&M courses but the food this time was pretty poor and the bill a hefty RM732. There was a carry over of RM20 and for the record Cannons now have a float of RM469.

Results – Kinrara Golf Course – 26th April 2011

Kinrara was extremely wet, the area having suffered a huge storm over the weekend. In fact it was so wet that some of the fairways were casual water from tee to green. With plugged and lost balls and several greens heavily sanded conditions were not ideal and progress was painfully slow.
12 Cannons teed it up and Erol Akinci emerged the winner with 40 + 3 points OCB from R/U Richard Moss. Erol is cut 4 points and Richard 1 point. The lowest gross was 89 by Tony Morris and the most golf was played by Alan Holgate.
M&M was taken at the RSC Annex where the usual good makan and inexpensive minum was enjoyed thanks to RSC members Richard &Tony as well as Andrew who was unable to play due to a sprained back caused by lugging heavy suitcases on his return from his holiday in Blighty.

Results – Staffield Golf Resort – 12th April 2011

As usual Staffield was in a very good condition and greens were very fast. Almost all bunkers were not playable due to recent rains which washed away all the sand but fairways were very playable and dry.
Registered 8 players and Paul Jeyaraj and two of his guests turned up. Tom Holmes played an excellent first nine and had 23 points but his game totally collapsed during second nine so his 27 handicap was no help.
Hans Berger had no such problems and finished by 23 + 23 . Hans was a comfortable winner by 85 – 46 and Bernard runner up with 91 – 41. So Hans goes down by 10 to 13 hcp to reflect his good golfing skills. Bernard down by 1 (or 5 if you want to punish him more).
Paul Jeyaraj 93 -37
Erol Akinci 101 – 29
Bernard Rohman 91 – 41
Hans Berger 85 – 46
John Laidley 85 – 31
Julian Pervis 93 – 37
Ray Funnell 106 – 27
Tom Holmes 101 – 34
Rein  Li Tan 92 – 40
Andrew (guest) 100 – 32
David (guest) 111 – 21
(both guests played with 24 hcp)

Results – Bukit Unggul – 5th April 2011

19 golfers assembled to play BU and bid Dave Hughes bon voyage as he heads back to the frozen north after his 3 months in the sun. Dave will be back next January.

BU was in good condition but they still have the Babi Hutan problem which disfigures the course in many areas. Pity but I guess there is little that can be done to prevent it.

With perfect weather all flights made good progress until the start of the back nine when a flight with a couple of women that appeared from nowhere and were unable to play the game at all, held us up until the manager was called to get them out of the way. Nevertheless, most were round in 4 hours; some considerably faster.

The winner with his lowest gross ever of 82 and 46 points was Tony Morris. Tony is cut 10. Runner up was Hans Berger with 45 points cut 1. The lowest gross was 78 by departing David and the most golf was played by Julian Purvis after some very wayward driving. In addition to the RM50 Tony received a bottle of Jonny Walker form Dave which did the round of the table. Tony generously donated his winnings to the pot which, after some recalculation left us with a surplus of RM50!!! Good on you Tony.

Congratulations to the winners and thanks to Ray Funnell for helping me with the bookings.
