Results – Serendah – 4th May 2010

Serendah clubhouse and facilities were, to say the very least, rundown and tatty but the course itself was in good condition, particularly the greens in most cases. It was a misty and somewhat cool morning to start but soon the temperature rose and the humidity with it which exhausted many of the players. We had a turnout of 13 players including one guest, Tom, a friend of Mike Smith’s from Qatar.

Results
Winner of the day was Andrew Robinson with 39 points (cut 4) which was very fitting given that it was his birthday … he also shot the lowest gross score of the day. Ray Funnell was runner up with 36 points (cut 1). Most golf was by Tom who shot a 114 – great value for money though Tom huh?

And it was Andrew Robinson’s Birthday (61st)
Andrew kindly topped up the kitty to meet the M&M bill … Thank You Andrew
Raymond “Pork Knuckle” Keys indicating he has chowed down on two pork bones!
Footnote:
Following on from the ever popular and continuing theme relating to Hans Berger’s fruit platter story I awoke this morning prior to the game to a lovely note left on my water bottle carrier in the kitchen from my dear wife as seen below:
…. and there in the fridge was my “fruit platter”. Well it’s a start I guess but a long way to go to reach the levels of service that Mr Berger receives on his golf mornings!!

Results – Rahman Putra – 27th April 2010

A total of 15 Loose Cannons members and 1 guest turned up for this week’s game at Rahman Putra. The course was in excellent condition, especially the greens and the weather was fair so no excuses for bad golf … think again …. Rahman Putra is a tough little course and this was reflected in the scores and results posted.

Also … spotted on the course today was what I thought was the leftovers from Hans Berger’s breakfast fruit platter …. but it was only some palm oil seeds!!

Additional Photos from Klaus
“No Photos now” he said. If he had said nothing we would have never thought of it!!!!
He is not wearing his kilt so one can only assume that this is (at least) his second shot!!!!

Loose Cannons Southern Tour

There has been some discussion regarding the proposed Southern Tour to Johor. So that we can best gauge the most popular date for this please let Mike Smith know what dates when you CANNOT join the tour. The proposed tour will be in JUNE or JULY.
In September / October we may try to arrange a tour to Batam or Bintang if there is sufficient interest.

Results – Nilai Springs – 13th April 2010

14 players (12 Cannons & 2 guests) turned out for the Nilai Springs game which is OK considering that a few regulars were holidaying with the family and a couple of others were sick. NS was in good condition with the greens on the Pines 9 much faster than the Island 9. Hot and very humid conditions got the better of several players including Klaus who complained bitterly about the weather saying he “completed the last few holes like a zombie” but still managed to return his handicap!

The clear winner with 42 points was Rein Le Tan, clearly rejuvenated now that his gearbox is performing well. Rein Le, you are cut 6 strokes. Runner up was guest Siegie with 37 points but the member R/U was Klaus with 36 points. Cut 1 stroke. Someone made the comment that they couldn’t remember this ruling being applied in the past. Well, we are not in the past so get used to it.

The lowest gross was our other guest Frances with an excellent 85.

This was the last Cannons game this year for David Hughes and we wish him bon voyage back to the frozen north. David donated a bottle of Black Label to the winner.

The M&M bill came to a modest RM545 and after all the cash in hand was donated (including Rein Le’s winnings) everyone coughed up RM20. The change plus RM160 which I owed (because I came out without my wallet) means that a hefty RM180 goes into the kitty. We will need to spend some of this soon.
Many thanks to Klaus Kretzschmar for the photographs.

Next Game – Nilai Springs GC – 13th April 2010

The next Loose Cannons game will be at Nilai Springs GC on Tuesday 13th April and as usual tee off will be at 08:00am so be there at 7:30am latest. This is a Top Premier course so bring your TP books.

David Hughes has kindly donated a bottle of JW Black label for the winner – this is David’s final game before he returns to UK.

Results – Tasik Puteri Golf & Country Club – 6th April 2010

After a slow start due to congestion on the first tee boxes the Loose Cannons 5 flights (total of 17 players) got under way under pleasant conditions. Course conditions were good and the greens were all in very good condition. Later in the morning however things did get rather hot and humid.

An excellent lunch was subsequently enjoyed at Equatorial Restaurant on the outskirts of Rawang with a surprisingly few bottles of beer consumed (4)! Not like the good old days of 24 bottles plus.
Winner of the day was Benhard Rohman who shot a gross 92 with a massive 46 points (cut 10 strokes) and runner up was John Preston with 37 points (cut 1). Best gross was Tony Morris and worst gross was Glen Wombwell.

Report for Tuesday 30th March – Bukit Unggul

After 10 weeks of organising the Loose Cannons Tuesday game my spell of duty has come to an end, so I am off to Sid’s to celebrate!

I have actually enjoyed it, and the ‘Power of Convener’ is fantastic so I can fully understand why Mike wants it back. The whole thing went remarkably smoothly, until today that is but the less I say about that the better!
Also I haven’t very much positive to say about the whole Bukit Unggul experience, apart from the fact that it had reasonable greens. Perhaps this course should also be relegated to the ‘Leap Year’ group of courses, so I will leave it at that!

Fourteen people indicated intent & fourteen people turned up, – and on time I may add! Well done.
Barry, my faithful assistant was missed today, but the money collection went quite smoothly, with only one person not having the correct change!
Thanks for your help over this period Barry, and you patented ‘Flight Selector’ device is now in the capable hands of Mr. Mike!

Today’s Outcome
Highest Stableford & Lowest Gross:- Mark Baker
Lowest Stableford:- Andrew Robinson
Highest Gross:- Mike Hughes.
As we only have one wooden spoon, Andrew & Mike can either split it or share it on alternate days over the next week!

Mark was unable to be present for the Trophy presentation, and thus forfeited his winnings to the ‘Kitty Pot’. Mike Smith has your trophy to be given on your next appearance Mark!
Mark will be playing off 14 next time out!
Erol Akinci came runner up and was cut 1 to 21.
It was Erol’s 60th birthday today, but he was very pensive and subdued. Don’t worry Erol 60 is now the new 40!

The votes for last ‘Tuesday’s Tosser’ were pathetic with only 7 votes cast, this was despite me giving a warning with EIGHT hours of voting left, that there would be a RM5 fine for any of last week ‘Tourists’ who did not vote.
Four people duly paid their RM5 fine today & only ONE whined about it!
There will be a RM5 prize for the first person (who wasn’t playing today) to sms me with the correct name of the person who they think whined!!!!

As the Loose Cannons group had become very old and extremely boring, there was a ‘significant majority’ decision to abandon this little bit of fun on a Tuesday!
I guess there is little point in ‘polling’ the whole membership on the subject as most people couldn’t be arsed to cast their vote!!! So here endeth the ‘Tuesday Tosser’!
‘Whinger of the Month’ for second consecutive month….well you all know who it was!

Finances:
Monies in RM900 + Carry Over RM458 + extra collection RM240 = RM1,598
Monies out Golf RM750 + M&M RM545. Total out RM1,295.
Carry over RM303 [Mike I will pass it to you on my return]
First call for next week….please respond to Mike after he sends out his announcement, as I will ignore any replies to my inbox.
Mike has kindly agreed to ‘Re-Convenership’, and states that all the good changes introduced during his absence will be abandoned, well hopefully not all of them….we shall see!
